Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 1084 - 1082: Emperor Yan
Ah Jiu was the first to notice the presence of Emperor Yan. He was slightly surprised in his heart, quickly stood up, and took two steps toward Emperor Yan before kneeling down.
"Your subject brother greets Your Majesty, may Your Majesty live long and be auspicious."
Empress Dowager Mo of Beiyan noticed Emperor Yan, her brows slightly furrowed but quickly relaxed. She leaned against the cushion on the couch, watching the two brothers with a smile.
Emperor Yan entered, looking down at the smallest imperial brother kneeling at his feet, who was now his only brother, and smiled with a hint of reproach: "Rise, after two years away, do you not even call for your Imperial Brother upon return?"
Ah Jiu looked up, smiled, cupped his hands in salute, and said: "Your subject brother thanks Imperial Brother." Then he stood up, glanced at Emperor Yan, and said: "After two years, Imperial Brother has only become more majestic and admirable. Your subject brother is in awe."
Emperor Yan was very young, only four years younger than Empress Dowager Mo and now not yet forty years old. In his youth, he was recorded under Empress Dowager Mo’s name. Before he ascended the throne, he was not yet crowned. It was Empress Dowager Mo who brought him up, protected him, and removed treacherous individuals along the way, creating the great country of Beiyan today with peaceful and prosperous times.
And Emperor Yan, too, could be counted as an ambitious and aspiring emperor. In his years on the throne, he was no longer the young child who relied solely on the empress dowager, but a firmly influential, decisive, and inherently intimidating emperor.
"Your tongue grows ever sweeter," Emperor Yan glanced at him with a smile, then walked over to the couch and saluted Empress Dowager Mo: "Your son greets Royal Mother, is Royal Mother feeling better today?"
His tone was sincere and full of concern, but if examined closely, a trace of complexity and embarrassment could be seen in his eyes. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Empress Dowager Mo gave a gentle smile: "With so many people caring for me, how could I not be well? But the Emperor, busy with state affairs, must take care of his health, for it is vital. Are those attending to you thoughtful?"
Joy flashed in Emperor Yan’s eyes as he quickly replied: "Though your son is busy, he always has time to greet Royal Mother. I heard that the imperial brother has returned, so I came to take a look. As for your son’s health, those serving me are attentive enough, Royal Mother need not worry."
"That’s good." Empress Dowager Mo smiled in relief, then coughed lightly again.
Emperor Yan immediately became tense: "Summon the imperial physician."
Empress Dowager Mo raised her hand hastily: "No need, it’s just a few coughs."
"Royal Mother’s cough persists without end. I believe the Imperial Medical Bureau is useless. Someone, pass my decree: if they can’t cure the Empress Dowager’s illness, they shall all be executed!" Emperor Yan said angrily.
Empress Dowager Mo sighed and said: "Emperor, you are venting your anger unjustly. During my prolonged illness, they have served diligently. If you execute them all, who will come to diagnose for me?"
"The world is vast; there must be miraculous doctors out there." said Emperor Yan, his eyes suddenly brightening as he looked at Ah Jiu and asked: "Did the Ghost Doctor return with you?"
Ah Jiu quickly nodded: "Your subject brother was unaware of Royal Mother’s ailment, so I brought the Ghost Doctor along."
"Quickly summon him to the palace to diagnose Royal Mother," Emperor Yan ordered.
Ah Jiu heard this and found nothing improper. He had been waiting for these words. After all, this palace belongs to his imperial brother. Without his say-so, no matter being the Empress Dowager’s son, he could not bring an unestablished Jianghu Person into the palace, let alone into the harem.
"Your subject brother will comply."
Only then did Emperor Yan’s expression slightly relax, saying: "Since you’ve just returned, let’s have a family banquet tonight to welcome you back."
"Imperial Brother, this..." Ah Jiu frowned, clearly showing disinterest in a family banquet.
"Listen to your Imperial Brother," Empress Dowager Mo chided gently: "You should meet your sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews as well."
Since even his royal mother had spoken, Ah Jiu had no choice but to agree reluctantly.
