Don't Fall For Me, CEO-Chapter 1169: July’s Lackey
That evening, Joseph, Jennings, and the steward appeared at the private club.
Susan Carter, as usual, was dressed in a suit and tie, putting on an impressive front to welcome them.
"Gentlemen, please follow me to the private room."
Joseph and the steward had never interacted with Susan before and didn’t think much of it.
But Jennings, as soon as he saw Susan, started to stutter, "What, did July kick you out?"
Right, who told this guy to always side with Kyle Keaton, saying that July Quinn and Kyle Keaton are a team?
Even if he looked a lot like someone from his past, Jennings couldn’t stand him.
"You’re overthinking it."
Susan couldn’t be bothered to respond and led them directly into the private room.
"You know each other?"
Joseph sensed something was off from his son’s attitude and raised an eyebrow, scrutinizing Susan.
Susan outright denied, "Don’t know him!"
Jennings was fuming, "How could I not know him? He’s July’s lackey."
Even though July Quinn and her seemed like master and servant on the surface, they appeared as close as friends, which was envy-inducing.
"July?" Joseph frowned.
If he remembered correctly, Jennings had mentioned before that Laura Quinn’s illegitimate daughter was named July Quinn.
Thinking this way, could it be that this Earl is someone July Quinn brought in to help?
But that’s unlikely.
Even if July Quinn looked as beautiful as Laura Quinn, it wasn’t enough to make a sly old fox like the Earl fight for her.
As Joseph was building his mental strategy, Jennings and Susan continued to glare at each other.
"Being a lackey is still better than being a sycophant like you. Sycophants, in the end, end up with nothing."
Susan retorted.
"Who are you calling a sycophant?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Jennings almost rushed to fight with Susan.
But in the end, he was pulled back by the steward.
Joseph timely intervened, "Alright, now is not the time for a fight; the most important thing is to persuade the Earl."
Yes, Joseph still hadn’t given up on the Ryan plan.
So he planned to offer some benefits to the Earl, even if the Earl didn’t directly let go of the Marsden Family, as long as he didn’t withdraw the funding from the Ryan plan projects.
For this, Joseph had prepared a small gift...
But as Joseph was focusing on how he would emotionally and rationally persuade the Earl later, he didn’t notice the smirk of sarcasm that Susan tried hard to suppress when mentioning persuading the Earl.
"Instant coffee or plain water?"
After bringing them into the private room, Susan casually asked.
Not only the words but also the disdain in the tone made Joseph, Jennings, and the steward furrow their brows uncomfortably.
They were all born during the prosperous era of the Marsden Family, and their material life was excellent, with all their drinks being freshly made.
Of course, even if someone rude served instant coffee, they would only mention it apologetically.
This was the first time someone like Susan would straightforwardly propose it.
Sure enough, the three of them had expressions like they just swallowed a fly.
Finally, the steward mustered the courage to ask, "Isn’t there freshly ground coffee? Our sir doesn’t drink instant."
Yes, Joseph didn’t like instant coffee; besides being unhealthy, it was filled with a strong cheap taste.
But Susan lazily replied, "No, there isn’t."
"How could there not be? I remember you had those good coffee beans here before..."
Jennings suspected that Susan was deliberately making things difficult for him and his father, and he confidently walked back and forth to where the coffee beans were stored, hoping to find them and embarrass Susan.
But before he could find those coffee beans, he heard Susan say, "There indeed are those coffee beans, but I believe once you meet the Earl, you won’t even have the mood for coffee, so it’s better not to waste them."
Joseph and Jennings’ expressions clearly changed.
