Chapter 1665: Chapter 1664: Not Wasting Time

"...Say, you did it on purpose. You don’t want to go home, right? Admit it, you don’t want to face her." Hill was teasing Kelsey like crazy.

Kelsey looked wronged, widening his eyes and spreading his hands, "You mean Patrick, right? He’s just finding an excuse to avoid going home, not needing the couple’s world..."

Mahomes immediately protested, "Hey! Don’t drag me into this. Our relationship is very stable, okay? Do you think I’m like you? You got caught cheating again..."

Kelsey quickly stopped Mahomes, "Patrick!"

Hill couldn’t stop laughing next to them, "Travis, I already knew, there’s no need to worry about Patrick spilling the beans. Actually, I’m the one who told Patrick those things."

Kelsey couldn’t believe his ears, "How could you lead Patrick astray?"

Chatter, hustle and bustle, the noise was overwhelming.

Li Wei was already used to it. This group of guys didn’t feel comfortable without teasing and bringing each other down; anyway, it was always the same routine.

If you don’t want to get involved, focus on driving and keep an eye on the situation outside the window; the world would be a bit quieter.

But—

Vaguely, Li Wei noticed some commotion outside the window, and he could see the lights of thousands of homes lighting up one after another in his vision.

It’s early autumn, and the southern daytime is still relatively long. The sun hadn’t set entirely yet, and theoretically, it’s not time to turn on the lights. The sky was lit up with the sunset, making the whole city especially bright; yet, inexplicably, more and more people were turning on their lights, as if it was prearranged.

The situation seemed a bit unusual.

Li Wei raised his hand to stop the group, "Wait a minute, you guys, pay attention..."

But they didn’t notice at all, still chattering endlessly.

Li Wei listened carefully, as if he could hear a wave of air brewing outside the car window.

"Guys. Guys! Listen up!"

Li Wei simply opened the window a crack, letting the noise flow in with the wind, finally capturing the attention of the three in the car.

Hill was stunned, "Rookie, what the hell is that?"

Li Wei didn’t respond.

Hill was about to continue questioning when Kelsey beat him to it, "Shut up, Rookie is also deciphering it."

Li Wei, fully focused, didn’t notice the two were at it again, nor did he realize he was holding his breath.

Just then, a red light. Li Wei stopped the car and listened closely.

Carefully discerning, Li Wei didn’t answer directly but softly hummed along with the noise—

"Hmm hmm hmm, hmm hmm hmm..."

The three others in the car were all stunned, Hill blurted out, "Wait, this is..."

The three exchanged looks.

Before they could say anything, Li Wei was already softly singing, "Forward, through the storm; forward, through the rain."

Mahomes took a sharp breath, involuntarily murmuring in a low voice, following along, "Maybe, the dream will ultimately be betrayed."

Kelsey couldn’t help himself and opened the car window on his side, pressing his ear against the gap, and echoes came back in the burning orange sunset that filled the sky.

"Forward! Forward! Brimming with hope! You’ll never walk alone!"

There was no noise, no sound, even the breathing had disappeared, and the car was silent; the four of them were all ears, listening intently.

The songs, scattered, sporadic, due to the distance and the echo, weren’t in unison, there was even a slight delay, and different areas were still trying to find harmony; but the point was, they hadn’t given up, they sang steadfastly, conveying faith through their voices.

Piece by piece, little by little, they gathered and intertwined, soaring and flying under the Kansas City sky, like a city’s voice, like whispers from the soul, so resilient and powerful, that they stepped forward with arms wide open and heads held high, facing the hurricane.

The world was as quiet as it gets, yet as noisy as it gets.

At this moment, the city showed it’s grandeur as if another way, united as one, even the blazing sunset paled in comparison.

Those streets, those buildings, those trees, were still familiar, they had been living here for three or four years, the road to the training base and Arrowhead Stadium couldn’t be more familiar, but at this moment, the familiar sights took on a new vitality, as if one light after another awoke, displaying different colors and brightness, a magnificent picture unfolded before their eyes.

Until—

Buzz, buzz.

The phone rang, pulling Li Wei from the singing; he instinctively clicked to answer, and slightly distorted sounds of Diggs came through the receiver.

"Rookie. Rookie! Listen! Outside!"

Incoherent, fragmented, probably Diggs himself didn’t even know what he was saying, but the passion and excitement broke free without reservation.

Li Wei’s lips curled up, realizing now, his eyes were slightly moist, "I heard it. Hey, buddy, welcome to Kansas City."

Diggs was momentarily stunned, only now realizing, these songs were also sung for him, and a surge of boiling blood almost burst from his chest, the power conveyed through that faith was so strong that Diggs didn’t even realize it, the burning fighting spirit was coursing through his veins.

"Ah! Ahh, ahh!"

Diggs screamed, and next to him, he could hear Bowen’s voice of ridicule.

Li Wei hung up the phone, the car returned to quietness, the outside song got clearer and more intense, injecting energy into his heart.

Li Wei turned his head to look in the rearview mirror, checking out his companions in the car, and they seemed to notice Li Wei’s gaze, looking back one by one.

A thousand words stirred in his chest, so many feelings tried to find expression, but it was difficult to find the right words.

Mahomes noticed Li Wei’s eyes; having known each other for so long, he’d never seen Li Wei so disheveled, so vulnerable.

This made Mahomes realize deeply again that Li Wei was just an ordinary person, because Li Wei performed so well, it was easy to inadvertently give birth to the illusion that Li Wei was Superman, a Superman who didn’t feel pain or emotions, who could carry the team forward, head held high, without them.

But now, it seems Li Wei also needed them—

The feeling of being needed wasn’t bad.

All these years, they witnessed, they experienced, they grew with Li Wei, Li Wei’s persistence, effort, and struggle were deeply ingrained in the blood and soul of this city, more than words ever could, actions were always more persuasive, for the team and city, Li Wei’s existence meant more than just the Super Bowl Champions and team leader, it was the dawn guiding them out of the darkness.

Not wasting time, there is always an echo.

All along, they had always been following the back of Li Wei, looking up, as if any storm, any difficulty, Li Wei had the answer.

And now, it seemed Li Wei was also encountering difficulties, it was finally their turn, they were willing to step forward, stand with Li Wei, and face challenges head on.

No matter what lies ahead, they faced it together.

Team. Residents. City. Not one less.
