Chapter 382: Chapter 343: Life Really Is This Sweet! (Part 2)

"I’m hungry."

Zhao Heng said.

"You should go to sleep; I’ll eat a little and then sleep."

After a pause, Zhao Heng said to Xu Man Ni.

Unlike him, who had a system-enhanced body, staying up late wasn’t good for Xu Man Ni.

"I’ll join you for a bite, I’ve already woken up, and I’m not sleepy anymore."

Xu Man Ni said, now over thirty, her sleep was gradually reducing. Besides, she was in deep sleep for those three hours earlier, feeling quite refreshed now.

"What do you feel like eating?"

Zhao Heng asked.

"What do they have?"

Xu Man Ni asked.

"At this hour, it’s mostly barbecue and seafood. How about seafood porridge?"

Looking at his phone, Zhao Heng suggested. Barbecue was a bit greasy; seafood porridge seemed just right.

"I’ll have the scallop and abalone porridge, and you can have the mushroom, fish maw, and lily porridge? Good for beauty and nourishment; it’ll be perfect."

After a pause, Zhao Heng ordered the dishes and added a dozen oysters to the order.

If Xu Man Ni needed nourishment, he certainly did too, and the oysters would be perfect.

Once he’d finished ordering and saw the price nearing two hundred, he reflected on how he might have struggled to afford it before; now it was no problem.

Indeed, having money is pretty good; you can eat and drink whatever you like.

"Are you having oysters at this hour?"

Seeing Zhao Heng’s order, Xu Man Ni blushed slightly and said to Zhao Heng.

"I’ll eat and then sleep."

Reassuring Xu Man Ni as he noticed her blush, Zhao Heng explained.

That hour of chaos, like the universe collapsing and the principle of life extinguishing, couldn’t possibly happen again.

"Look at you talking like that."

Xu Man Ni gave Zhao Heng a playful glance.

Within twenty minutes, the delivery arrived, and Zhao Heng opened the door to take it.

As they ate, Xu Man Ni said to Zhao Heng, "Is your software ready for market deployment?"

"After finalizing the clinical database and some adjustments, it should be ready."

Nodding, Zhao Heng replied.

"Did Gao Jun’s connections help?"

Xu Man Ni asked further.

"Very helpful; negotiating with the hospitals was effortless."

Zhao Heng said with some amazement. Normally, the hospitals Wang Yaoqing had to negotiate would have required several months and a lot of effort, but Gao Jun’s connections made the hospitals reach out to Wang Yaoqing proactively to introduce the software.

The difference was enormous.

"That’s good, Gao Jun has never used connections, but made an exception for you."

Xu Man Ni commented.

After finishing their meal and sharing some tender moments, they went to sleep.

The next day.

At 8:20 AM.

In the surgery changing room.

"You look so tired, what were you doing last night?"

Sun Li asked Xu Man Ni, puzzled by her yawning.

"Nothing much."

Xu Man Ni answered casually.

Of course, she wouldn’t say she couldn’t rest the whole night.

"The election is at a critical moment, Ding Minjun has been actively moving around; don’t slip up now."

Sun Li reminded Xu Man Ni with concern.

As her close friend, if Xu Man Ni was promoted, Sun Li would naturally benefit too; a case of managing to raise everything around her.

Competition and conflict are the fiercest within hospital departments.

Especially for young, pretty nurses, it’s easier for them to get involved with doctors, sub-heads, department heads, even vice-presidents and presidents, making relations very complicated.

Xu Man Ni’s main rival for the head nurse position, Ding Minjun, reportedly had ambiguous relations with a hospital vice-president, otherwise, Ding Minjun wouldn’t be confident enough to run for head nurse.

"It’s alright, I’m aware."

Xu Man Ni nodded.

Seeing Sun Li’s concern for her election, if Xu Man Ni were to say her plan was to head to the medical university for a teaching role after becoming head nurse, who knows how Sun Li would react?

Forget it, let’s take it step by step. Though they’re best friends, a boyfriend is still more important, Xu Man Ni knew the priorities.

Love stories breaking up due to a friend’s interference are not uncommon.

Thus, Xu Man Ni would consider Sun Li’s suggestions but wouldn’t blindly follow them.

After all, everyone’s an adult, no matter how close, each has their thoughts.

"Make sure to catch up or Ding Minjun might steal it away."

Sun Li urged Xu Man Ni again.

"Recently, don’t spend too much time being lovey-dovey with your boy; I’ve received reliable news that he’s about to be promoted to deputy head. Once he is, there will be many young ladies rushing towards him. If you don’t get the head nurse position, you’ll regret it."

After a pause, Sun Li advised earnestly.

To her, Xu Man Ni’s prior refusal to date, marry, or have children was undone after being with Zhao Heng; her feelings unleashed were like a runaway horse or a raging flood, endless. Even Sun Li was starting to find her excessive infatuation hard to watch.

"What do you mean by my ’boy’?"

Hearing that, Xu Man Ni was somewhat displeased. She and Zhao Heng were in a normal relationship, nothing sneaky, so even her best friend using such a term annoyed her.

"Alright, it’s just a term, look at you guarding like this."

Sun Li laughed.

Despite her casual tone, she feared Xu Man Ni’s temper. Before at Eastern Hospital, among equipment nurses, Xu Man Ni was known for having the worst temperament.

It’s no surprise; with anesthetist Gao Jun and the head being her relatives, and her beauty and family’s wealth, it would be odd if she were easy-going.

Meanwhile.

Zhao Heng changed into his lab coat, entered the office, and after handing off duties, took Liu Meng and Li Yang to the wards for rounds.

Just out of the office, Liu Meng curiously asked Zhao Heng, "Dr. Zhao, I heard you’re becoming a deputy head soon?"

Upon hearing this, Li Yang looked at Zhao Heng in surprise.

Though Zhao Heng’s skills were widely acknowledged, his experience was still somewhat lacking; leading a ward was already a stretch, yet being deputy head would stir waves in the hospital.

Nonetheless, with Zhao Heng’s skills and backing, he wasn’t afraid of any commotion.

"How do you all know so soon?"

Hearing Liu Meng’s question, Zhao Heng was baffled, as Xu Man Ni mentioned it just last night, yet now the ward staff knew.

Could someone have leaked it early?

Zhao Heng could only guess.

"Everyone’s talking about it; I’m not the only one who knows."

Liu Meng answered matter-of-factly.

"Everyone? How did it spread from?"

Zhao Heng was more puzzled; the whole hospital knew, yet he just heard from Xu Man Ni yesterday.

"It’s from the committee’s news release."

Liu Meng replied.

"Dr. Zhao, if you become deputy head, might there be a resident physician spot in our ward?"

Pausing, Liu Meng asked with genuine interest.

Knowing Zhao Heng’s straightforward style, she asked directly, no need for hesitation.

"There should be; you can start preparing."

After contemplating, Zhao Heng responded. If he indeed got promoted, they would likely allocate a resident physician spot, allowing Liu Meng and Wang Tao to start preparing.

For Li Yang, it would be a matter of waiting for his chief promotion for any deputy slots.

"Great."

Liu Meng said happily.

Waiting in ER for so long without success, she didn’t expect so soon after joining the ward, she’d find a crucial spot.
