Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Exchange

And it was all for that woman. Lily Shaw was utterly shocked, finding it impossible to accept this bombshell of a revelation.

Tristan Grayson dragged her out of the company building and shoved her into a car.

"Hey... Tristan, what are you doing...?"

Tristan Grayson shot her a cold glance and spat out two words: "An exchange!" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"An exchange?" His words were another sharp stab to her heart. Her face drained of all color as she gave a bitter smile. "So, you’re going to trade me for Maggie Monroe?"

"Whether you did this or not, you’re still involved!"

"Heh..." She didn’t bother to explain. Right now, any explanation would be pointless, laughable even.

Tristan Grayson pulled out his phone and called his dad. "Dad, I gave you the press conference you wanted. Now tell me, where is Maggie Monroe?"

"The press conference? You have the nerve to bring up the press conference?"

"You wanted me to announce our marriage, and I did it, just like you wanted. What more do you want?"

"I wanted you to announce the marriage, but I never told you to quit the entertainment industry! Do you have any idea what this does to our company...?"

"As for the company, don’t worry. I’ll find a way to make up for the losses. I won’t let the company pay for my personal mistake."

"—"

When the other end of the line went silent, Tristan Grayson pressed on, "Where the hell is Maggie Monroe?"

After a long pause, Caleb Grayson’s sigh came through the phone. "Son, don’t blame me. I’m doing all of this for our family."

Hearing his father’s words, Tristan Grayson’s heart sank. He roared, his voice laced with frantic anger, "What does that mean? What the hell have you done to Maggie Monroe?"

"Mika is a good daughter-in-law. Your mother, your grandmother, and I are all very fond of her. As for that Maggie Monroe, she was sent abroad last night to receive medical treatment."

"What? Sent abroad?"

"Son, you’ll never find her."

"No! How could she travel abroad in her condition? Dad, tell me the truth. Where the hell is Maggie Monroe?"

"Son, after all these years, look at what you’ve become because of that woman. I will absolutely not allow her to stay by your side and ruin your life any longer."

Tristan Grayson clenched his fists, suppressing the inferno of rage in his heart. He spoke in a chilling voice, "Dad, I really didn’t want to do this..."

"—"

"Mika Summers is right here with me. It’s your decision, Dad. Do you want Mika Summers to live, or will you tell me where Maggie Monroe is?"

"You’re insane! What are you doing?" A roar came from the other end of the line the moment he finished speaking.

’I must be out of my mind.’ Mika Summers snatched the phone from Tristan Grayson’s hand. "Dad, it’s Mika."

"Mika, don’t be afraid. That boy Tristan is just talking big. He... he wouldn’t really do anything to you."

Hearing Caleb Grayson’s words, Mika Summers started to cry. She shook her head and spoke through her sobs, "Dad, I’m not scared. I know Tristan won’t do anything to me. Please, just tell us, where is Maggie Monroe? Dad, I know you hid her to stand up for me. But Dad, it’s precisely because of Tristan’s unwavering devotion to her that I feel I haven’t married the wrong person or misjudged his character. Tristan really is a good man and a good husband."

"Sigh... Mika, you can’t really think I’m that heartless. The truth is, Maggie should have been sent for treatment long ago. If Tristan had kept delaying things, she probably wouldn’t have even lived for three more months."
