Divorce Only Makes a Son-in-Law Stronger-Chapter 65, Difficult Brothers
What the hell! What was going on?
The man who was supposed to be the Prince of Sha Country was actually kneeling before Lin Fan? And he was calling him "brother-in-law" over and over, begging for his life!
The sudden turn of events bewildered everyone.
Yuan Tao and Old Zhou’s eyes widened, their jaws nearly dropping to the floor in shock.
Yuan Youwei and Mrs. Xue’s expressions changed slightly as they both turned to look at Lin Fan.
I have to admit, this guy hides his secrets deep... He even has a foreign brother-in-law?
Yuan Youwei bit her red lip, a stifling sensation tightening in her chest.
Could it be that Lin Fan has been married twice? And here I was thinking he was an honest man. Hmph. On the surface, he seems decent, but in reality, he’s just a huge playboy!
"Your Highness, you... you must have the wrong person! Please, get up quickly!"
Stubborn Su Gang and Yuan Ruohai, who were still dazed, both shuddered, their faces turning green. After all their careful planning, who could have possibly predicted that Xiao Jie already knew Lin Fan? And it seemed they were relatives!
Damn it, doesn’t this just hand all the leverage to Lin Fan? How can we possibly continue with the plan... unless we can shut him up for good!
The two exchanged a look before rushing forward. They scrambled to pull Xiao Jie to his feet.
However, Xiao Jie violently shrugged them off. Instead, he scrambled over to Lin Fan’s feet and clung desperately to his pant leg.
"Brother-in-law, you’re the only one who can save me! For us to meet in this backwater place, it must be fate ordained by the heavens!"
Lin Fan’s eye twitched. "I told you, you have the wrong person. My name is Lin Fan." He took a step back to get away from Xiao Jie.
"No, it can’t be! I absolutely have the right person!" Xiao Jie persisted, crawling to Lin Fan’s feet once more. He was sobbing, snot and tears streaming down his face, looking utterly wronged and terrified.
"Brother-in-law, that melancholic look in your eyes, that rugged stubble, and that deep, magnetic voice of yours... they all give you away!"
A shiver ran down Lin Fan’s spine, his scalp tingling from the relentless flattery. Unable to stand it any longer, he switched to the language of Sha Country, frowning as he rebuked Xiao Jie in a low voice, "Shut up! Stop calling me brother-in-law. Your sister Adele and I are innocent; absolutely nothing happened between us!"
Hearing this, Xiao Jie’s eyes lit up. "Right, right, I won’t expose your current identity. Are you on another secret mission?"
He quickly wiped away his tears, brushed himself off, and scrambled to his feet. He also switched to the Sha Country language, explaining rapidly in a hushed tone.
"My older brother sided with our Second Uncle Emperor and colluded with an evil organization called the Holy Poison Sect. They drugged my father and imprisoned him.
"My sister was studying abroad, and now she’s missing... They captured me and took me to a Prison Island in Domatra. I barely escaped with my life!
"They’ve been hunting me ever since. You’re my only hope of survival... I mean... Lin Fan, for my sister’s sake, please, save me!"
After rushing through his explanation in one breath, Xiao Jie fell silent, just staring at Lin Fan with pleading eyes.
Lin Fan was silent for a moment before nodding. "Alright. For your sister’s sake, you can stay with me. I’ll make sure you stay alive."
So the Holy Poison Sect has already extended its reach all the way to Sha Country? Keeping Xiao Jie around could be a good way to lure them out and investigate what happened seven years ago.
"As for anything else, I can’t help you," Lin Fan added. "Remember, I’m Lin Fan now. Don’t let it slip." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"I get it, I get it! As long as I’m safe for now, I’ll do whatever you say, brother-in-law!" Xiao Jie was flushed with excitement, nodding his head like a chicken pecking at rice. He was completely oblivious to the fact that everyone else was utterly dumbfounded.
"Miss, what foreign language are they speaking? I can’t understand a single word," Mrs. Xue whispered to Yuan Youwei, looking quite astonished.
"It must be the language of Sha Country... I can’t understand it either, though I could catch a few words." Yuan Youwei shook her head slowly, her expression complex. She had excelled while studying abroad and was proficient in two or three less common languages herself, but her skills paled in comparison to Lin Fan’s fluency in the Sha Country tongue.
Gazing at the man before her, Yuan Youwei felt like she understood him less and less. He was supposedly so broke he couldn’t even afford his clinic’s rent. Yet, the extraordinary things about him seemed to be endless!
"Ahem, Your Highness, you’ve definitely mistaken him for someone else. Please don’t associate too closely with someone like him, to avoid being deceived!"
Yuan Ruohai and Stubborn Su Gang exchanged another dumbfounded look. Neither of them understood a word of the gibberish Lin Fan and Xiao Jie had spoken. But judging by their reactions, it looked for all the world like a tearful reunion of long-lost compatriots!
Shock and suspicion churned within them, and they grew terrified that Lin Fan would expose their scheme. Yuan Ruohai’s heart leaped into his throat. He had no choice but to bite the bullet and try to persuade Xiao Jie.
Stubborn Su Gang shot Lin Fan a fierce, warning glare.
"My apologies, I was indeed mistaken. His name is Lin Fan, not the person I knew," Xiao Jie said the next moment, nodding happily as his expression relaxed.
This made Yuan Ruohai and Stubborn Su Gang secretly breathe a sigh of relief.
But before they could even celebrate, Xiao Jie’s tone shifted as he pointed at Lin Fan. "I’ve decided to appoint Lin Fan as my Chief Security Advisor!"
Yuan Ruohai was stunned. What the hell is he trying to pull now?
Stubborn Su Gang, utterly dumbfounded, shook his head frantically. "No! Absolutely not!"
"Why not?" Lin Fan glanced at him and retorted. "Didn’t you say you work for the Prince? Do you dare make decisions for your boss?"
"This... this... Anyway, the answer is no!" Stubborn Su Gang’s face flushed red, so flustered he nearly choked.
I’m the one who brought him here! How can I let Lin Fan piggyback on this? Besides, it’s still not clear if he and Xiao Jie actually know each other. What if Lin Fan exposes us at a critical moment? We’d be finished!
Just then, Yuan Tao could no longer hold back. "Dad, what on earth are you doing?" he asked skeptically. "This guy looks like a homeless bum. How could he possibly be the Prince of Sha Country?"
Yuan Youwei, Mrs. Xue, and Old Zhou all turned to look at Yuan Ruohai.
Yuan Ruohai’s face darkened. "You don’t know anything," he snapped. "His Highness’s private plane crashed at sea. He was the sole survivor, and that’s how we met."
He wasn’t panicked in the least, having clearly anticipated this line of questioning. Following a look from Yuan Ruohai, Stubborn Su Gang took out his phone and pulled up a photo from his gallery.
"Open your damn eyes and look closely! This is a photo from seven years ago, during the Xia Country military parade. Members of the Sha Country Royal Family were there to observe!"
On the screen was a long-distance photo taken from a city tower. A group of men and women from Sha Country, dressed in white robes with white headscarves, were looking down and admiring the military formations below.
"See that?" Stubborn Su Gang pointed to one of the men in the photo with a smug expression as everyone gathered around to look. "This is His Highness the Prince seven years ago. He looks exactly the same today!"
This was the key piece of evidence in their plan, and the part Su Gang was most proud of. Even Yuan Ruohai had slapped his thigh and cheered when he first heard about it. After all, Stubborn Su Gang had personally gone to the Imperial Capital to watch the ceremony seven years prior. He had a very strong impression of those obscenely wealthy members of the Sha Country Royal Family. So, when he met Xiao Jie, a quick comparison with the photo on his phone revealed a perfect match. This was what made their whole scam plausible.
"Holy crap, he really does look identical! Dad, you’ve pulled off something amazing this time!" Yuan Tao exclaimed, his eyes wide.
"Second Master is incredible! To think you could even get the Prince of Sha Country to come. Your connections are out of this world!" Old Zhou added, equally impressed.
Yuan Youwei and Mrs. Xue said nothing, but the way they looked at Yuan Ruohai had completely changed. A photo like that would be difficult to fake. After all, a quick search online would probably pull up similar images.
"Hmph. So you finally believe me now?" Seeing their reactions, Stubborn Su Gang puffed out his chest, his confidence restored.
He noticed Lin Fan was also staring intently at the photo, seemingly lost in thought, and was about to make a sarcastic remark. But when he followed Lin Fan’s line of sight, his heart suddenly lurched.
In the photo, standing not far behind the Prince of Sha Country, was an inconspicuous but upright figure. He had a crew cut and wore a black suit, with large sunglasses covering half his face.
Isn’t that... Damn it... he looks a little bit like Lin Fan?
