Divorce Only Makes a Son-in-Law Stronger-Chapter 192: Brothers
"Mr. Lin, thank you! If it weren’t for you today, we really wouldn’t have made it!"
Moments later, the unconscious boy was taken into the operating room. Outside the tightly closed doors, the middle-aged couple waited anxiously, glancing eagerly toward the door while showering Lin Fan with endless gratitude and attempting to kneel again.
"It was nothing, just lending a hand. For all of us to be on the same flight to the Imperial Capital, it must be fate." Lin Fan shook his head and helped them to their feet before turning to Fatty Chu.
"If you want to thank someone, thank my good brother, Young Master Chu. Not only did he get the hospital’s Deputy Director for you, but he also plans to cover the medical bills."
What the—? When did I say I was going to pay out of my own pocket?
Hearing this, Fatty Chu’s eyes widened, and he stood completely dumbfounded.
"Thank you, Young Master Chu! Thank you so much! You’re a truly good person!" The middle-aged couple was both surprised and delighted. Choking back tears, they bowed deeply to Fatty Chu in gratitude.
"Heh, it’s... it’s nothing. How much are the medical fees in total? Is a million enough?" Fatty Chu’s mouth twitched as he realized Lin Fan had suckered him. Yet, facing the couple’s grateful gazes, he was too embarrassed to deny it. Strangely enough, a hint of happiness stirred within him.
"This card has about a million in it. The password is the last six digits of the card number. After paying the medical bills, use the rest to buy supplements for the child’s recovery." Fatty Chu gritted his teeth, pulled out a bank card, and forced it into the man’s hand.
"This... this is too much! The surgery only costs around a hundred thousand. We don’t need this much..." The man and woman exchanged a look, both shaking their heads in shock and hesitating to accept.
"What are you afraid of? Young Master Chu’s family is rich and powerful. This little bit of money is just enough for him to go to the club a couple of times," Xia Bingbing said with a smirk, deliberately teasing him.
"I... when did I ever go to a club to find models? Xia Bingbing, you can’t just spout nonsense and slander an innocent man!" Fatty Chu’s face flushed red as he retorted angrily.
"Right. With that righteous look on your face, you’re obviously still a virgin. How could you possibly be fooling around out there?" Lin Fan nodded in solemn agreement. He draped an arm over Fatty Chu’s shoulder, and with that, they parted ways with the couple, who were moved to tears.
"Lin Fan, you son of a bitch, cut the crap! I’ve already, already...!" Fatty Chu, on the verge of exploding, struggled and shouted with a beet-red face.
"Oh? So you admit to fooling around at clubs?" Xia Bingbing caught up, her pretty face turning stern. "You’re in for it now. I’ll go have a word with Grandpa Chu later."
"Don’t, please don’t! You’re my big bro, my big sis! Can’t your little brother just admit he’s wrong?" Fatty Chu panicked instantly, forcing a smile as he begged for mercy in a low voice.
The trio reached the bustling hospital entrance as they spoke. "Alright," Lin Fan said, releasing Fatty Chu’s shoulder. "I’ve gotten revenge for you. You should go home now and stop meddling in my affairs." He smiled at him. "You did alright today. I’ll accept you as my brother."
"Heh, I’ve actually wanted to hang out with you guys for a long time, but you and Xia Bingbing always thought I was just a little brat and never let me join in!" Fatty Chu was taken aback for a moment, then he cheered up, scratching the back of his head.
"As long as you don’t use your position to bully people, you can come to me if you ever need anything." Lin Fan pointed to a black Mercedes-Benz parked by the curb. "Lend me the car. I’ll return it in three days."
"No problem! We’re brothers, after all. It’s just a Benz; I’d give it to you if you wanted!" Feeling euphoric, Fatty Chu became incredibly generous, waving his hand grandly. "Brother Fan, where are you guys heading now? Can you take your little brother with you?"
"...We might be getting into a fight." Lin Fan’s smile vanished. He looked down the street at a black SUV with a special license plate speeding toward them.
"What? Another fight? I’m... I’m still injured, so I’d better sit this one out, hehe..." Fatty Chu froze. When he followed Lin Fan’s gaze, his chubby face turned pale.
"Did the Ying family send more people?" Xia Bingbing murmured, her expression tensing as her delicate brows knitted together.
SCREECH!
The SUV with the black license plate screeched to a halt right in front of them, causing passersby to turn and stare.
"Long time no see... my dear elder brother."
BANG!
The car door was flung open, and a tall, lean, handsome young man jumped out. He was the second young master of the Imperial Capital’s Ying family, the renowned Deputy Commander of the Hulin Guard on the northern front, and, on top of all that, Lin Fan’s half-brother from the same father: Ying Rufeng, the man revered as the Ru Feng War God!
"Seven years have passed. I thought you’d be cowering in some corner, clinging to a pathetic existence." Ying Rufeng looked fierce in his brown camouflage combat uniform, his face lean and chiseled. He took off his large sunglasses, revealing a pair of narrow, sharp eyes.
Behind him, two Guard Officers, one on each side, strode forward and sternly reprimanded the trio.
"Insolence! How dare you show such disrespect when our Vice Marshal speaks to you? Kneel and apologize at once!"
"You will all bow your heads before the Ru Feng War God! Do not look directly at him!"
What? This man, who looks slightly sickly... he’s the renowned Ru Feng War God?
The reveal hit the surrounding crowd like a bombshell. They were utterly stunned, their jaws practically hitting the ground. Although the Imperial Capital was teeming with powerful figures and high-ranking officials were a dime a dozen, seeing such a major personage in the flesh was still incredibly exciting!
"My heavens, he’s the Ru Feng War God, my idol!"
"So young and already in command of a major force. He truly is handsome and extraordinary!"
"They say he’s only a sliver behind his brother, Ying Bufan. One became a general at nineteen, and the other was just a few months later!"
The crowd buzzed with discussion. Some were awestruck, others’ eyes gleamed with admiration, and still more were moved, praising him endlessly. However, when these words reached Ying Rufeng’s ears, his expression darkened with anger.
Ever since he was a child, he had always been sensitive to comparisons between himself and Ying Bufan. After all, one was the legitimate eldest son and public face of the Ying family, while the other carried the stigma of being an illegitimate child. In everything, from academic performance to personal prestige, he was firmly outclassed by his brother. Even his achievements in the Hulin Guard on the northern front, despite his family’s desperate help, could never surpass Ying Bufan’s. His brother was like a distant horizon; no matter how relentlessly he chased, he could never reach it.
Xia Bingbing and Fatty Chu were completely stunned, exchanging looks with grim expressions.
Lin Fan took a step forward, staring deeply at the young man before him, whose features were so strikingly similar to his own. It was like looking at his former self. Unfortunately, even if they were brothers by blood, anyone who used their power to commit evil would not be tolerated.
"You’re too late," Lin Fan stated. "The marrow has already been transplanted into the child. You’ll just have to wait for a new donor."
What? The bone marrow has already been transplanted?
BOOM!
Ying Rufeng’s eyes bulged, his teeth grinding together so hard they audibly scraped. A surge of Qi Force erupted from under his feet, instantly shattering several paving stones. The two Guard Officers’ expressions changed drastically, their gazes turning savage.
THUD!
Ah Fu burst out from the crowd. He threw himself to the ground at Ying Rufeng’s feet and began kowtowing frantically. "Second Young Master, this old slave deserves death! I was useless! That man didn’t care if you lived or died! He insisted on giving the marrow to an outsider! He’s a heartless beast!"
"Very good. Very good, indeed," Ying Rufeng sneered. "To think you’ve only just shown your face and you’ve already given me such a grand welcome gift."
BANG!
He sent Ah Fu tumbling into the crowd with a single kick, his screams echoing as he flew. Turning his head, he glared at the expressionless Lin Fan, his eyes instantly crawling with bloodshot veins.
"Audacious impostor!" Ying Rufeng roared, pointing at Lin Fan with a sinister sneer. "How dare you impersonate my deceased elder brother, Ying Bufan! You’re clearly trying to swagger and swindle your way through the Imperial Capital and ruin the Ying family’s reputation! Arrest him and hand him over to the military! If he resists, kill him on the spot!"
