District 42-Chapter 96: Surprise attack
Casper was sitting on the bed and looking into space. He seemed to be a bit confused, but Rolvur interpreted it to be just because he was not used to wearing the masks.
He never wore off his mask in his entire life, but through science, he knew the sensation of pressure and limitation that people felt while wearing it. The citizens lived with that pressure since they were born, so it was something natural and imperceptible.
In Casper’s case, he was always free, doing what he wanted to, and when he wanted. It was a different feeling.
Slowly, the Principal started to giggle, then laugh, looking to his new achievement with joy and realization in his eyes.
"We did it! We did it! Do you seen that!? Our new creature is now complete! We can use him as we please! Why do you guys aren’t as happy as I am? We gave a historical step today, and now!" He approached each scientist who took part in the procedure while saying so, looking at their eyes and smiling behind the mask, with a joyful and excited voice. He held their hands, doing forced handshakes, grabbing their arms or shoulders.
Rolvur was feeling insanely happy. Energy filled each part of his body. He couldn’t wait until he would be able to start the new projects he had prepared for Casper.
The Principal approached his new toy, looking intently at him, and waiting to see how he would react.
He got even more excited when Casper raised one arm, charging it backward while looking at him directly in the eyes.
The other scientists approached slowly as well, staying some steps behind Rolvur. They weren’t as happy as him for what they did, since it was just the start. They needed to do a lot of research on Casper to know the possible collateral effects.
It would be a historical step just when they finished everything and could pass to another level with the soldier.
Casper charged even more his arm, his waist turning to the side to allow him to pull it the max he could.
The Principal leaned towards him, looking even closer, lowering his head until he could face Casper directly.
In the next moment, Casper made a fist with his hand and sent it flying towards Rolvur. The fat man couldn’t be quick enough to avoid, and hardly even a Ridire would be able to do it.
The soldier’s fist reached his face. A thud and a loud cracking sound could be heard through the laboratory. Rolvur’s head was launched backward, making his body arch before he slowly fell to the ground unconscious.
"Hmm, that drug was really effective. With that condition I was, I couldn’t knock out even a weakling like him. The medicine advancement of this world always surprises me." Casper rotated his wrist. It had been a while since he didn’t punch someone, and to do it all of a sudden had hurt it a little bit.
The scientists around retrieved several steps, looking surprised at Casper. The soldier nearly laughed, he could even imagine them jaw-dropping behind the sad mask.
"Don’t worry, I will leave just him like this today." He assured them, then stood up from the bed and picked a white cube from under his clothes.
A scientist woman looked disgusted for him.
"What are you looking for? You can’t say anything about me, I don’t have pockets differently of your lab coat with dozens of them, tsk."
He activated it, and the holographic keyboard popped up in front of him and then began to type way faster than before in the lockdown room.
"Yeah... It seems that my theory was right, I can do this... There is a way to corrupt the masks. I don’t know how to make it properly though, but what I have in hands now is more than enough for my plan..." He thought, feeling spirited.
"Hey, you nerds, do you have something that can serve as a trigger for high brain activity? If so, give it to me now or I will force you to do it... And I would like some more of that drug this fat man gave to me." Casper ordered bruskly, and the scientists promptly started to move.
Casper removed all tubes and cables that were connected with him. With some effort, he could also wear off the mask, which hurt a bit, but was possible.
He typed for some more time on the keyboard, at least until the scientists came back with the items he required.
He stole a lab coat from them because he didn’t want to hide all those items in his pants.
"You!" He pointed to one of the scientists, who nearly jumped, frightened. "All the Ridires are outside, right? Ok, then, keep them in there, don’t let anyone get here, otherwise, you know what will happen!"
The man ran to the entrance door and inspected the situation out there, sometimes talking with a person.
Casper needed more time to be able to do what he wanted. It would probably take some minutes.
"H-hey, sir..." A woman approached him, with something in her hands. "That’s Berserker. A drug that affects the central nervous system, making someone stop feeling any pain, have infinity energy to spent, resilience, and so on... But it also triggers more cerebral activity." She gave those capsules to him. "The content in these capsules is in gaseous form, so it has lighter effects, but it should be enough."
Casper nodded for her explanation. He heard at some point about Berserker, but never paid too much attention to it. However, it would be useful for him at that point.
He kept the capsules in his pocket, focusing again on his work.
"Just a bit more time. I am already in the cental network of this place, I just need to corrupt the masks just as I did with mine, but I need to do in all of them..."
The data of the masks had the name of the person using it, and a number as well. Casper found his mask and corrupted it partially, but with that massive amount of masks, it would take too much time.
"Hey, you... Help me here..." He called a scientist, who promptly, but hesitantly, came to his side.
Casper explained to him what he was trying to do.
"I know you can’t conspire with this thing, but with keywords and intelligence, we can overcome it. And you don’t have another choice, got it?" The scientist nodded.
In the end, he could find a way to do this, and with one more type, every single black mask of Halden was partially corrupted.
The partial corruption he did was different from the Frelsi’s. In that one, it was needed something to help them to break the barrier that the masks imposed, which required high cerebral activity, and it probably wasn’t forever.
When the Principal put the mask on Casper, the Odin drug was already having a good effect, and as the mask got corrupted even before connect with Casper’s mind, it did not work. However, in other prisoners, he was not sure if it would be temporary or permanent.
Nonetheless, he didn’t need something eternal. Even if it was just some hours, it would be worth it.
When his work was done, he disabled the cube and walked off the laboratory.
He remembered to put his mask back when leaving that place. That thing stuck to his face, like a suction cup. It was an uncomfortable feeling.
When he left the laboratory, all the Ridires looked to him. Their eyes showed joy and relief to see that the White warrior was finally with a mask and under control.
Casper saw that they were keeping two people with them: Alfar and Olaf.
He walked towards them, quietly, as if it was the most natural thing to do.
The dozens of Ridires that were gathered there started to feel uneasy. There was something wrong with that situation... And that man... Even though he was with a mask, he was acting strangely.
Some of them prepared their guns glancing at each other.
Casper reached his two comrades that were laying on the ground, handcuffed. His gaze stopped at Alfar’s hands. They were holding something tightly.
He got closer, crouching on the ground. The warriors around were still without knowing what to do. They were people who always could trust in the masks’ restrictions, after all, so it was unlikely that the White warrior would be an exception... But he apparently was...
Casper opened Alfar’s hand, picking something there.
"Thank you, man. It’s nice to see you again, though you are in a pretty bad condition." He mumbled.
The Ridire that was commanding that troop, the smarter one, was looking at that action as well. When he saw Casper touching Alfar’s hands, he got dumbfounded, but then he remembered something.
"Flashbang!!" He yelled, but that warning was useless, the warriors wouldn’t get it.
Casper pulled out the pin of the small but powerful flashbang in the Dark elf’s hands, closing his eyes tightly.
