Chapter 84: Cornered

Before those carefree words coming from the dirty mouth of that pig, Amelia could barely hold the urge to grab his neck and strangle him right there. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"Aaah, it’s such a bother to be so short-tempered as I am... I need to keep my cool before I stole one or two pistols from the Ridire and give chase to each people I hate here..." She shook her head slightly, trying to brush off those murderous thoughts of her head.

She breathes in and out deeply before starting to say what she wanted to, and the main reason as to why she got there in a hurry.

"I wanted to be here to say that it was nice to look at this chubby mask of yours, Rolvur, but it seems that it will be not possible at all!"

The man giggled at that passive-aggressive comment and turned entirely to her, letting his research aside.

Rolvur would just pay attention completely to Amelia, even though that woman always went to the laboratory to say harsh words for him. If it was someone else, he would just ignore, send them to talk with one of his assistants or say to them to come back another time.

Amelia also took him as a special case, since she just left the infirmary when the issue was about Rolvur.

He and Amelia were like dog and cat, always fighting with each other and cursing one another’s name until the gods got sick of it.

Nevertheless, everyone in Halden knew that they had something deep inside that always made them find excuses to meet each other, be it for pure hate or something else.

"Ok, ok, at this late of the night you are already slaughtering me, Amelia? How unpolite, what’s your problem?" He said, tauntingly.

Amelia, exasperated, narrowed her eyes.

"My problem!? My problem!? You must be kidding me, Rolvur! Kidding!" She stretched her hands towards him, about to rip off his tongue just with her nails.

"I should be the one questioning you about it, you pig! And you know exactly why I am here! I can see in these tiny eyes of a fool!"

The scientists that were closer to them started to get away from them slowly, willing to lose their hearing senses during that fight.

"Yeah, yeah, you got me, Amelia. Let’s see... I am pretty sure that it is about that man with white hair. What’s the name of that interesting creature, huh?"

"Casper, you nerd! It’s Casper, White warrior, whatever you want to call him!"

The fat man snapped his fingers and nodded energetically.

"That’s it, Amelia! How intelligent you can be when you try! It’s Casper, indeed. Do you have something bothering you regarding this prisoner?"

She once again needed to calm herself down, counting until ten, and fidgeting her fingers hard.

"You brought him to do the procedures again, didn’t you!?" The man nodded happily again. "You idiot! How could you do this dumb thing !? I told you several times to not do so! Are you deaf?" She pushed him, and his chubby body nearly fell from the chair he was seated on.

He screamed a curse or two but got back to his normal balance then looked furiously at Amelia.

"I have the right to use these prisoners as I want to accomplish my damn goals, Amelia! Don’t put your nose on it!",

"You have the right to use them! You indeed have! But as long as you keep them alive! Casper barely could survive last night because of your inconsequence!"

The man stood up from the chair, puffing out his chest and crossing his arms.

"And who will stop me from doing so, huh? You, Amelia? I doubt it! I am under a contract here, and it says specifically for me to keep doing what I am doing with these low forms of lives!" He gestured with such intensity that it looked more like a real fight than an argument.

"I will surely need to see your face when I tell Catrina about it." She crossed her arms as well, thinking that the victory was hers.

"Go ahead. Catrina already knows about this matter, and she approved my actions here!

"Everyone knows that Casper needs to be stopped no matter what. Before being a high valued weapon, he is also a dangerous one, and without a leash, he will be two times more deadly for every worker here. This includes you, Catrina... And me, of course. That’s why we are rushing things."

After that argument, Amelia could say nothing. She opened her mouth to do so but forced herself to shut it again. No matter how big was her pride, she knew that it was better to recognize a loss than to keep pitifully insisting.

"If that man dies, and Halden wastes the most precious subject that ever had stepped here, you are the culprit, Rolvur." She turned her back to him and walked stamping feet until the exit.

"It will be a pleasure, hehe." Ironized the man, before she could run away.

This way, proud of himself, he returned to his work.

...

Casper got some medication when he was in the infirmary. He had to stay there for the rest of the dawn to lessen the symptoms of the Dark zone.

He was so dizzy, that he could not even realize that he was surrounded by people, and could not even enjoy the time he got with company again, since the lockdown lacked completely this kind of thing, of course.

"I think I am incapable of enjoying anything right now, to be honest... I feel so bad that I want to faint again. If I am awake, the pain seems to increase each second... Damn!"

A nurse came closer to Casper, offering him a glass of water and a plastic cup with medicine inside it.

"What...? They want me to have an overdose or something? I mean, I already had a lot of medicine from, like, three different nurses. That’s just wrong..."

Casper wouldn’t be so surprised if people tried to poison him at that point. He could have gained the respect of most of the prisoners, but he never would be on good terms with the Ridires or scientists. There were even some nurses that he didn’t get along with, as well.

"Well, I think that poison wouldn’t be an issue here. They are already killing me with these consecutive trips for the Dark zone, and it was just the second day of it." He had a long way to go, still. But the soldier was sure that he would have victory in that matter.

"Relax a bit. If they are doing it, probably they know that the life risk I am passing through isn’t so high... Or so I hope."

He heard different footsteps coming between the numerous beds that were lined there.

At the time, Casper didn’t know already, but he was the Principal of Halden’s Laboratory.

The man with a chubby body, short leg, and a very suspicious look, crouched beside Casper and kept staring at him for a while. In truth, the soldier couldn’t even talk. His pain increased if he did so. So he just stared back at that man.

"So, you are the one responsible for that fuss inside canteens, right? You were planning it with Anton, Alfar, and Olaf, right? Nothing in those battles was spontaneous and triggered normally by themselves. You meticulously thought of each step: Block B drawing the attention of the guards; Block D moving to F; Another battle happening; Ridires confused; You defeat some of the most dangerous creations we have... Then you turned off the security system somehow... And I am still wondering what happened by the time the cameras were turned off..." He approached Casper.

"And I just thought who you sent to do it for you. Then I found Anton. And, you know, the masks don’t let you lie for authority figures. So he confessed about everything regarding that action, although we all know that there is something more, he could play with the words way better at this point. He is a clever guy."

Casper was looking towards that unknown man with his tired eyes slightly widened. He was trying to say something, but no matter the efforts he did, nothing came out in the end.

"I was thinking to myself about all that happened these days, White warrior. Then, I realized that it was a waste of space to have a lot of recordings and never watch them, so I did it for everyone, and more and more interesting things appeared about you, Anton and Olaf. And I know that there is a lot to be explored about my Alfar." He had a threatening voice, that worried Casper even more.

"Don’t worry, Casper. Nobody will know about your plan of... Take some fresh air... Of course, just if you cooperate with me, which is an important thing! But, you can choose here, although you don’t have anywhere to run, hehe."

The man got up and sneaked outside the infirmary, letting Casper immersed in thoughts there.

The soldier was completely cornered.
