Chapter 346: Addiction

"That’s not enough." What was before just a thought turned into a muttering.

MMA somehow could hear what Casper said and tilted his head in confusion. He was slowly getting up from the chair he was seated before. He couldn’t understand at first what kind of situation Casper was passing now.

"Are you okay, White warrior? What isn’t enough? Do you mean, the time? Are you saying that we don’t have enough time to run away from the Frelsis?"

Once Casper heard his voice, his mind got out of that frenetic state.

His eyes moved towards MMA quickly, in a strange way.

The Boss never saw the White warrior acting like that, which was something that got him disturbed. He didn’t know whether he was expressing himself like that because he was despairing about the upcoming attack, or if it was... 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"Hey, White warrior." His nonchalant voice echoed through the tent. However, differently from his cold and indifferent expression of before, he had a slight frown. "How are you feeling now? Is your head okay? You aren’t thinking on Berserker again, are you?"

Casper’s heart throbbed once he heard the word Berserker. He remembered once again about that delicious feeling on his heart and body. He could recollect even which parts of his body were achy, tensing, or exhausted at that time. The pleasure of an intense battle was indescribable.

’I want more.’

"What d-did you ask? The rain is too heavy out there, I couldn’t hear properly."

"Berserker, White warrior. Are you thinking about it? Do you feel that your body isn’t normal? That’s what I am asking."

’Yes, I want it.’

"No." Casper shook his head, utterly refusing that idea. "Man, we are under attack right now, do you really think that I would be able to think about Berserker again? I am just worried because we have a lot to do and people’s lives are at stake! We need to move right now, understood?"

MMA’s expression changed to the usual cold, but he was still wary of Casper.

"You are shaking all over. Your eyes seem strange as well. And why the hell are you clenching your fists so tightly for?"

Casper was, indeed, clenching them, but he didn’t notice it until that point.

"You seem prepared to fight, White warrior." MMA gave another step toward him.

Seeing that, Casper’s body nearly acted by instinct and punched him. No... it wasn’t out of instinct. His body wanted to do it because it expected the feeling to be as good as before.

He wanted to fight because, back in the palace, it gave him the best feeling that he ever had in his life.

Nonetheless, the soldier gritted his teeth while opening his hands slowly, holding his impulse to attack.

MMA was testing him. If Casper was having the collateral effects of that drug, then he clearly wouldn’t escape from the chance of entering into a fight.

"No, MMA. I am just too tense ok? That’s normal when you are just a normal human, not a genius like you. While you can think about ten things at the same time and solve every problem that appears, I can’t do even half of it. I ran until here in the rain, found an enemy, got threatened... It’s normal to act like this, isn’t it?"

MMA lasted some more seconds analyzing him, but then let Casper do as he pleased.

"Fine. So, go talk with Rurik and Freygar. I will get charged to anticipate some preparations."

Casper nodded, turning his back and briefly walking forward.

"Hey, White warrior..." Casper didn’t glance at him but was clearly hearing. "What is not enough?"

The soldier thought for a while.

"The time. Yes, the time isn’t enough. We need to do it as fast as we can."

MMA nodded, dismissing him with his hand.

Casper walked hastily out of that tent without looking back.

’If time really wasn’t enough, why are you walking instead of running like you did when getting here, huh?’ MMA took his phone and began to call people inside the Support base, aiming to tell them the occurred. ’I didn’t know that you would be such a bad liar, White warrior.’

...

Casper needed to stop midway to hide behind a tent.

For some reason, he was getting nausea, and his stomach seemed to be turning.

Once he stopped to walk and just kneeled on the ground, he began to vomit.

He didn’t kneel just to throw out, though. He felt that his legs were just trembling too much for him to stand still.

’What the hell is happening with my body? Damn it!’ He held his chest tightly, feeling that his heart was being squeezed.

In his mind, he remembered when he felt the sharp and soft pain of the syringe’s needle entering his arm and injecting that dense and cold liquid into his veins. Obviously, at the time he didn’t feel it, but now he could recollect how the drug traveled by every inch of his body, being transported swiftly and in just some seconds.

His heart raced just by imagining those things and his will to get more of that drug raised even more.

Casper closed his eyes, using the breathing techniques that he always did when in the army. A slow and focused breath, imagining the oxygen crossing all his body until the tip of his fingers, then being released even more slowly.

He concentrated on the cold rain falling on his body. It wasn’t a good feeling to be wet like that, but better than feeling that way from before.

’Man... that feeling... it seemed to be consuming me. It was way too strong. I barely could hold myself when talking to MMA. What the hell...’

He closed his eyes for some seconds more before getting up and going to meet Freygar and Rurik again.

Casper finally could breathe properly and his heart stopped racing.

Anyway, he felt that his fight against it was yet to end.
