District 42-Chapter 341: Another genius
MMA cleaned his throat, looking somewhat proud to Ari. Of all the other Aesirs, he was the one that knew better the potential behind Ari, who wasn’t the most popular, nor considered the stronger among them.
That Aesir was, in truth, underestimated for many reasons, but that was just his personality. Behind that, not too outstanding figure and introverted behavior was an intelligence that was rare to see in others.
"You know, Casper. I could count on my fingers people who are as smart as him. He learned how to make simple and complex calculations by himself since he was a commoner, and still a kid.
"I tried to figure out what happens inside his mind plenty of times, but I never come with something other than assuming that it is a given or something of the sort. He is just a talented person, nothing more to add to it."
The Boss approached the bed, stopping beside Ari and looking at his calm face.
"You know, he just became an Aesir because of his intelligence. He didn’t need any kind of superpower, he didn’t need to submit himself to any type of experiment, he didn’t need a brilliant career in any other field, or then born inside the Royal Family. He just needed to focus himself on something to be noticed by people who had enough perception to see all the potential that was still dormant inside him."
Casper frowned hard, confused.
"How does that relate to my question?"
MMA glanced at him, their eyes locked for a moment.
"He calculated the losses of everyone before it happened, also that he couldn’t do anything about it. He wouldn’t be able to save others, nor stop that Camilla to put her hands on Gungnir. Without the clairvoyance such as Brenna has, he could notice all of this and know about the upcoming defeat. So he saved this ace to use in a reasonable time.
"After all, if he just unleashed a suicidal attack to kill everyone inside there, or even if he opted to act smarter and try to destroy just the Frelsis, there was a high possibility for everything go wrong. He thought on the lives of the folk before of everything. And it’s because of him that I am sure that we will win in our counterattack. He discovered by himself that our second chance would be better than the first."
Casper approached the bed as well. He was finding himself too small now that he was getting to know the greatness of each Aesir.
He crossed his arms, making a complicated expression.
"How do you know that he himself calculated and didn’t ask Brenna?"
"Because, before Brenna even sent me that message saying her prediction, he had already made his calculations and sent to me the statistics about the fight of each Aesir, taking into consideration all the variables and what type of enemies would be sent to fight them. A great part of it was a gamble, after all, he couldn’t know about the Vanirs, but he supposed that the Frelsis would send such powerful people to fight them.
"Being strong or not, he knew that their enemies would put them at their limits, also as using the Jarls as an obstacle since the Aesirs would need to protect them as a priority."
Casper mumbled an "ok" while rubbing his neck.
He was the one who made that entire plan to defend the Castle, then to give a huge comeback afterward, but Ari seemed to be one who mastered it in all points.
"It’s interesting to know these things, to be honest. Now, I know that Ari will probably have much more to collaborate with us when we start to build a plan to enter the Castle again."
"Yeah, he is probably working on something like this right now, also as making another scheme to guess what is the best floor to start to activate the explosives once we start."
They stayed some time there, just waiting a bit more and hoping that he would take off the glasses for a while and talk to them, but the guy was totally absorbed by whatever he was doing there.
"Well, I think that we should get to the last Aesir that I wanted to show to you. This one won’t be so surprising, I suppose. After all, her rehabilitation can be considered the worst among all the others, but there is something more with her that would be interesting to display."
"All right." Casper agreed.
This way, they left the tent hastily. The afternoon was in its middle already, so they must go there in a hurry. After all, that wasn’t a day of rest. They still had a lot of work to do.
...
Finally, they got into the place where MMA was aiming to drag him to.
Casper wasn’t expecting that this time they would be going to a normal aid tent, with several beds inside it and different patients.
Mostly, wounded warriors were there. Those Ridires who fought with the Aesirs inside the Castle and got seriously harmed.
The ones that were resting on those beds seemed to be in a better state, overall.
It wasn’t the same gruesome atmosphere of the first days.
Even Casper got a bit shaken when remembering that image. A chill always ran down his spine when he did so.
’Well, I had been in other tents before, not just here but in the Yanke forces as well. It is a common sight when facing something like war.’ He thought.
The soldier had his hands on the pockets of his pants, giving slow steps forward.
MMA was beside him and seemed to be searching for something. When he found it, he hurried his steps, going near a specific bed.
Brenna was the Aesir lying on that bed.
Nonetheless, a point drew Casper’s attention.
"Hey, MMA. That’s Brenna, I know, but... Is she still sleeping or--"
"No." The Boss interrupted him, guessing what he was trying to ask. "He is still in a coma, as you may have noticed." He stated.
