District 42-Chapter 251: Adam’s letter
The door of Casper’s apartment opened with a loud sound. After that meeting, he was feeling tired. Maybe because he was the only one talking in the second half of it.
His mind was dizzy. All he wanted to do was to get some sleep or just rest.
’Well, I can’t sleep, anyway. If I want to start this plan right now, then I need to be awake. I just hope that all my guesses are right. If something different from the expected happens, then it will be two times as hard to find a way around. It’s not a flexible plan, unfortunately.’
He took off his boots after he entered his home, walking bare feet there. He noticed that he left the window open when he left his house.
’That’s not good. I am killing my safety like this.’ He was going to close it but ended up stepping on a piece of paper which he forgot a long while ago.
"Something important" was written in huge letters on the outside of that folded paper. The White warrior remembered that Adam gave it to him a long time ago, before he even got enjailed in Halden.
’Hey, wait a sec... Maybe that’s something more outrageous than I was thinking before. I get this feeling now, particularly because of Adam’s behavior ultimately. Also, the guy sometimes acts like I needed to know something.’
The soldier was feeling quite dumb because he didn’t remember that piece of paper right away. If not for the events that happened after he received that thing, he would have read it right away.
Casper unfolded the paper and, casually, started to read what was inside it. The message wasn’t too long. Adam, as always, economized as much as he could in his words, doing a concise and clear text. In the beginning, the White warrior treated that letter with caution, but he wasn’t going to deceive himself and be disappointed afterward.
However, once he was in the middle of the letter, his eyes widened, and his face got paler.
’Does Adam discovered this much by himself!? How? When? And why didn’t he tell me about what was going on? Why just in a freaking letter?’
The soldier stumbled inside his apartment.
’Yanke!’ He shouted.
The robot appeared right off the bat, even before Casper finished his yell. The robot was quicker than ever before.
"M-Master?" Yanke asked in confusion. The last time he saw his master so agitated like that, nothing good came out of it, and he needed to restart his system because of the pressure.
"I need you to call Leonel, Ivar, or whatever the Aesir available. Call all of them. The one faster to answer the call will do. I just need to talk with any of them as fast as I can."
The soldier kept walking in a hurry inside his apartment while reading what was written in the letter numerous times, absorbing each statement and word which Adam wrote there.
"Master, Leonel answered the call. I will overlay his voice on mine, so you can hear him."
"Hello, White warrior!" A spirited voice echoed from Yanke, making Casper tremble in fear and anger. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth, not believing what he was hearing.
"Rat.." The soldier growled.
He heard a laugh on the other side of the line, followed by a strong punch on something solid. He could imagine the scene of Rat laughing while hitting his fists on the walls.
"Bingo! It seems that you already grasped my way of talking and the tone of voice I tend to use the most, even though I could change it the way I wanted with my voice modifier. You are a smart guy, just like I thought you would be, or even more."
"Where the hell is Leonel?"
"Strolling around! Don’t you know that it is good for health to let the cellphone aside and exercise a bit sometimes? That’s what he is doing. Maybe it is a dangerous stroll, filled with punches, kicks, and torture, but not good enough to make a lot of information get spilled out! These masks are annoying..."
Casper felt the tension rise. His face was going from pale to pure red. He felt like his jaw was breaking after so much strength was exerted there. The soldier was frowning hard, an expression of fury and disgust appearing on his face.
"You bastard! You freaking bastard, I will kill you! I will find you and break all your bones with my own hands!" The White warrior got closer to Yanke, stopping right in front of him and looking to his single eye intensely as if he was looking to Rat himself.
"No matter what you are doing right now, or how much I will need to struggle for the next days; even if I need to search through all this Castle and break every single wall it has, I will find you. I will look at your eyes and put an end to your existence!"
He heard another laugh coming from Yanke, one more hysterical, crazier. That sound made all his being shake with fury.
"You will see what I have prepared for you!"
"Hahaha! No, White warrior. I think that you misunderstood something here, you know? You are the one that will, soon, see what I have planned. Even though you might have an idea of what we were working on these days, I think your guess is still far away from the proportions we have settled for our plan!
"I need to admit, though, that this letter of Adam that you found isn’t something we were expecting at all! That guy is a genius! He knew since the start that he was one of the few we were keeping an eye 24 hours per day, every day of the week, so he decided to communicate this way with you. It’s a pity that someone got you enjailed in Halden, right?" This last quote had a sarcastic tone. Casper remembered that crazy lady shooting at that big screen, making it activate the alarms of the Third Lab.
’So, those two things are related, which left me with the guess that they are, indeed, Frelsi. However, there is something in his phrase that gets me curious... He just commented about the letter Adam gave me. But, a while ago, I didn’t even mention it. So, most likely they are...’ Once the soldier had that realization, he ran to his window and closed it, making sure that all the others were as safe as that one.
He knew that depending on how bold the enemy acted, that would be just worthless in the end. Nonetheless, he needed to make use of any advantage he could get there. After all, if his guess was right, then he was already sieged.
"Casper, Casper, Casper... You are more naive than I thought you would be. Do you think that closing your windows will prevent something to happen? That’s not reasonable at all! I think I overestimated your abilities, in the end. That’s also annoying." He continued mocking through the call. It was getting on Casper’s nerves. He was losing his cool there.
’I need to think! Think! If I get completely angry now it won’t do any good. If I get trapped by the enemy, not just physically but mentally as well, he will win against me for sure.’
The soldier was standing in his living room, where he could get a good view of all his apartment. Yanke was following him no matter where he went, always reproducing that strange modified voice.
Casper was looking to all the windows of his apartment, also as the door.
"What now, White warrior? Where are your weapons? Didn’t you get any of them with you? Maybe all the weapons you had in this house vanished all of a sudden... I wonder who did this?"
Casper still had the knife he always carried with him, and part of the equipment of the Sgails was still attached to his current uniform. He wasn’t thoroughly defenseless, but he hadn’t the ideal equipment for that situation. If he wanted to do something to save his life there, then he would need way more than just a few devices and a knife for sure.
"Well, anyway, I think it’s time to end with our game, White warrior. The duty calls me, and my subordinates are anxious to capture you and go to their other positions to continue the plan. I hope you don’t take so long to be defeated and be a good boy during your stay with us, ok? Bye!"
Right after Rat hung up, Casper heard a loud sound coming from the window next to him in the living room. Someone broke through it and landed inside the apartment.
’Yes... I was right. I got surrounded by all sides!’ Then, more noise came from the other rooms. The soldier drew his knife, getting prepared for the threat about to come.
