District 42-Chapter 248: The seven strongest part 2
The White warrior walked into the room, going straight in the direction of Ivar and greeting him casually. Although he wasn’t much intimate with the Wild Aesir, he still wanted to show a relaxed vibe to the others, so they could be at ease around him.
"Hey, Ivar, what is he doing here, after all? I thought that it would be a reunion just for the Aesirs..." Brenna asked, closing her distance from Casper and looking intently at him while talking.
"Don’t worry, Brenna. He isn’t an intruder at all. I invited him through my phone." He limited himself to say only that information. There was another reason behind his invite, but he would bring it up just later when everyone arrived.
Ari and Freygar relaxed once they heard that everything was fine. The first didn’t seem too pleased by the soldier’s presence there. He shared the same opinion about Casper as his best friend did.
’I am just glad that Canute isn’t here to see this scene. A Sgail other than Ivar participating in an important meeting of Aesirs is unbecoming, in my opinion. However, it’s better to keep my mouth shut since the others didn’t seem to think the same way as I do.’
Glancing at Freygar, Ari noticed that he was looking at Casper with challenging eyes, but wasn’t angry or had an antipathy towards the White warrior.
Ari knew a bit about the story behind what happened between those two inside Halden. He could understand the feelings that his comrade had about Casper. After all, the Punctual Aesir also had a certain rivalry with Canute. It was a feeling that let a tense environment, but, at the same time, got you motivated all of a sudden.
Freygar probably was remembering that battle right now, wishing to have a second, third, or fourth chance to fight again with that guy.
In the end, he was completely right about Freygar’s feelings. The cloned Aesir couldn’t think about anything else other than the time when he fought with Casper. His memory was vividly reproducing that time. He was grasping every mistake he made, and how he could have had turned the battle in his favor.
He was still aware of his disadvantage in close combat, and that he just lost that battle because he didn’t use the equipment he had; anyway, even that single weakness was a big frustration for him.
That Aesir wanted to be stronger than Casper in all aspects. He had been training for a long while to accomplish that goal. His combat skills and his physique were better than they were before. He had a lot to improve before getting to the White warrior’s level, but he was progressing faster than expected.
’I know I should be going to do something different at this point, focus on what I am already good at. However, whenever I think about fighting with someone like Casper again and losing because of my weakness, I get anxious and willing to train more in this aspect. In the end, he was an essential point of my life to show me what I need to do better.’
Freygar stepped forward, stretching his hand towards Casper. He had a faint smile on his face, that couldn’t be noticed in his eyes, which were nonchalant. However, the friendly vibe he gave was inviting, so Casper didn’t feel threatened in any way.
"It’s good to see you again, White warrior. I didn’t say anything the last time we met, but I wanted to clarify that all my "cruel" actions from before weren’t because of grudge or slyness. I just wanted to fulfill my duty to keep all those prisoners in jail and keep the "peace" of the Old Third Lab, even though what I was protecting before wasn’t the right thing at all."
The White warrior dismissed his apologies, waving his hand.
"Don’t worry about it. I know very well how it is to follow orders and do things that you don’t agree completely with..." He spoke grimly. "I know very, very well." Added afterward.
The Cloned Aesir could understand what he was implying, and although he was curious, he didn’t ask any further about that subject.
’Every warrior has their reasons to regret the past. Not all the times we can afford ourselves to be heroes, after all.’
Just as Casper understood Freygar, the last also could comprehend him very well. Just his grimly face showed everything he avoided saying there.
The White warrior didn’t want to greet Ari at all, and the said also wasn’t looking too friendly towards him, so they just nodded their heads for each other and left it like this.
Casper also made sure to respond to all Brenna’s questions, even though it was a bit strange to see a woman acting like a child around him.
He saw her hanging out with Freygar at the Third Lab before. She gave a remarkable first impression, but he didn’t pay too much attention to her at the time because of the circumstances he was in.
After the greetings, they didn’t have too much time to talk more, since another person showed up.
It was Rurik. He had tears in his eyes as he entered the room. His eyes seemed as sad and exhausted as always, his red hair was all messy, and he walked dragging his feet like a zombie.
’I wonder if there is a single day in the year, or the decade when this guy is not depressed...’ Casper thought, doubting that this day would never come at all.
"I don’t have too much energy to spend with greetings, so let’s just leave at it and keep going, okay?"
"Are you okay, Rik?" Brenna asked, pulling Rurik’s sleeve with palpable worry on her eyes.
"Yes, I am. It’s just that, as long as I keep seeing the days passing, I always end up noticing before sleep that life is sucking each day more..."
The child-woman was looking to him in confusion. It seemed that Brenna couldn’t understand Rurik’s philosophy.
"It’s better that you don’t infect her again, Rurik. The last time you opened his mouth to say something to her, she stayed a whole week at her bed having bad omens and leaving us with no option but needing to search all the Castle to not let any real prediction slip from our hands." Ari commented, making Ivar and Freygar nod in agreement.
"It’s better that you stay away from her, Rurik. You can talk with me if you want." Freygar offered his help.
"No, leave me alone. I don’t need your help at all. I am already sick of this positivism of yours. By the way, where is that womanizer, AKA Canute?" Brenna asked after counting every Aesir who was inside there.
"You know where he is, Bren. Don’t be silly and start to play naive here." Ari said, crossing his arms.
The Oracle Aesir glanced at him, pouting then looking away. She adored playing naive, even though she knew about almost everything that happened in her surroundings. However, Brenna didn’t like when others condemned her. Just a childish way of being, as expected from that lady.
"So, how are we going to start this meeting without Can?"
Ivar took a tablet from his backpack and turned it on.
"As we said, Brenna, stop to be silly. You also know about it."
While she showed her tongue to him, the tablet’s software initiated successfully, and an image appeared on it. Ivar made a video call with Canute, and his face was appearing on the screen.
"Hi, Can!" Brenna shouted, waving happily at him.
Canute was polite when greeting everyone and got somewhat pissed off when seeing that Casper also would participate in that meeting. Contrary to Ari’s expectations, though, he didn’t complain about it. Ivar probably calculated that risk and persuaded him beforehand to don’t snap.
"Okay, since everyone is here and the greetings are all made, we will start the subject we need to talk about." Ivar was the one taking the lead in that conversation. His voice was excited as if he was going to enter into a rollercoaster. The usual grin was showing in his eyes.
Interested, the group got silent and paid attention to him. They had a basis of what was the matter, but they didn’t know about Ivar’s objectives with that meeting.
"As you all know, we are under a serious threat. Rat can act at any time and start a fuss with proportions that we don’t know how big will be. Most likely, all the Castle will get shaken because of his next moves. The Princess got her will shattered because of our selfish actions. Our morale is going down with the sight of a darker future. I am here because I am the only one who doesn’t give a shit about what is happening and tries to find the solution for this, instead. So, I have a plan that will make your asses start to move. After all, we all are warriors; when the danger comes, it’s not time to fear and cry, but to take our swords and press forward!"
