Chapter 244: Hospitalization

It was another busy day at the Healing Center which Rurik worked. He was in the small room of rest that the nurses used to have a coffee and chat a bit sometimes. The room was empty as per usual since he always preferred to be alone while in there.

That was another day in which the man saw a whole bunch of deaths. Something happened on a near floor, an explosion, which caused huge harm not just for the city itself but for the citizens as well.

The number of deaths was higher than what was registered on the Healing Center since most of the victims died right on the spot, mainly the ones who were in the range of the explosion. The rest was caught by the wreckage or harmed while in the rush to one of the Teleporting pads.

The masks didn’t allow people to fight between each other physically, at least not the Jarls, but it didn’t have an effect when it wasn’t intentional at all. A lot of people fell among the crowd while running and the only possible result for it was a massive trampling.

’It’s hard to believe how naive and cruel humans can be when they are in despair.’ He reflected, thinking if he would be able to pay attention where he stepped if he was in a situation like that.

In the end, he giggled sadly of his own face.

’I am a warrior, differently from all those normal Jarls or a few ordinary commoners that were on that city. I am capable to think when a situation like this comes. In the end, they died because they weren’t prepared enough, and the people stepping on them weren’t prepared enough too. Powerless individuals pass for harsh times often. That’s what sucks more in life.’

Rurik wanted badly a life where everyone could be equal, in social class, power, prestige, influence...

’If people didn’t have something that others do not, then wars wouldn’t exist, nor envy, nor betrayal. Maybe if everyone had the very same things, they wouldn’t be willing to get more, because looking to the bottom and the top, they wouldn’t see anything to covet.’

However, the healer knew very well that it was just a childish and utopic way of think.

When he was going to take another sip of his coffee and close his eyes to enjoy the last seconds of his break, a huge mess could be heard out there.

He wasn’t willing to get out from there. Actually, that coffee he was drinking had some strange medicine, and he would get an overdose just if he drunk it until the last sip.

’Dang it! I should have had drunk faster!’

He threw that cup of coffee on the trash and then left the room, walking hastily there to see what was happening.

A lot of people were gathered at the entrance of the Healing Center, following a group that was carrying someone.

’Maybe it’s another prestigious Jarl? There were one or two people who made the same effect on the others. Though, this time, it seems to be worse.’

He combed his red hair, fixing his coat and walking near that crowd.

"Excuse me, you all! I am passing! I need to see the patient as soon as possible!"

"Rurik!" The Immortal Aesir heard someone familiar calling his name. It was Canute.

"Over here! I don’t know how much time she has!" This time, it was someone he didn’t know too much about but heard him once in the past: Leonel.

The red-haired healer walked hurriedly among the crowd, trying to get on the center of the fuss. He didn’t know who was the injured person, but, by their tone of voice, it wasn’t hard to assume that she was on the edge.

Once he got on the middle and saw the group, he moved his eyes hastily towards all of them. They all were harmed, mainly Canute, Eskil, and Leonel, but the person who was in their arms didn’t show a hint of physical injury. Nevertheless, he was a healer for a long time and knew what was going on. He could notice her half-opened, distant eyes, and her skin that wasn’t white as milk as it always was, but yellowish.

He could barely believe that it was the Princess. He felt something like a needle piercing his heart from all directions. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Poison... For how long does she have this condition?"

"We don’t know, but roughly eight minutes," Eva answered, taking as a basis the time that the group stayed on the office, the average time when Vick was shot, and how long they lasted to get into the Healing Center.

"That’s dangerous. Some poisons can leave permanent harm after five minutes of duration in the blood flow. Her symptoms let me thinking if it is as strong, since she is not foaming through her mouth, nor bleeding in any orifice. There is no tachycardia or convulsion as well, I suppose. Anyway, it’s better if we take her to an intensive care room!"

After he said it, some nurses appeared with a stretcher, putting Vick on top of it and carrying her to the room where Rurik would be treating her.

The others were taken by other healers and nurses to different places. None of them wanted to be taken care of. They were willing to be waiting for her to be safe, but they were obliged to go to their rooms.

Ivar was the only one who was unharmed, so he just stayed with his arms crossed while sitting on a bench.

"Don’t worry, I will be waiting for her and giving information if needed."

Casper was wondering how someone like him, who used the exoskeleton at its full potency, could stay unharmed, even internally, but it wasn’t such a surprise. Ivar seemed to be in the next level of power. It was even ridiculous.

Before he rambled more about the subject, a nurse took him by the arm and brought him to a room to treat him. Casper wasn’t too harmed, but she needed to see if there was an inner injury on him.

In the end, Ivar just stayed there without being disturbed by them because they knew what kind of monster that guy was.

...

Casper’s staying in the room at the Healing Center wasn’t for too long. In truth, he didn’t have plenty of injuries on his body.

His legs were very worn out because of his constant rush and use of the exoskeleton. He was being very reckless with it, pushing himself hard and messing with his muscles. Every time he went to a healer, they would say to him the same feedback about it.

Nonetheless, on that day, the results of so long training his body and getting it used to the exoskeleton showed off. He was taking the grasp of it.

"Your leg’s muscles aren’t as injured as I thought they would be... Which level you were using on your exoskeleton?"

"Level 3"

The nurse analyzed his legs again, trying to see if everything was okay. Some movements made him feel pain. His calf and thigh weren’t at their 100%, but a lot of people out there had more serious injuries on their muscles.

"That’s not a Level 10 at least, which is the highest, and although you seemed to use it for a long time, it’s not that bad. Some time of recovery and taking the medicine you need should be enough to make it better."

The soldier raised his brows, surprised.

"I also was guessing that I would get another scold because of my recklessness, to be honest." He started to move his leg by himself, testing it. "In the end, it’s still injured though." He commented after feeling a sharp pain on certain parts of the thigh.

"Well, you were using something that increases your strength forcefully by reinforcing and pushing your muscles, tendons, and bones to their peak. No wonder you are feeling pain, but most of the possible harm you could make is now gone. You are starting to get used to level 3."

The soldier was joyful. Finally, he was hearing some progress and it was getting him very happy.

’I’ve been using this for a while already, and I never stopped to train my muscles, so I think that it is just the expected. Soon, it will be time to move to level 4.’

"Anyway, you pushed it quite hard not just because of the exoskeleton, but those boots you said you were wearing. They are quite potent but don’t worry, the first boosting is always harmful like this."

Together with a healer, the nurse finished Casper’s diagnosis and started to give him the medicine he would need to take, also treating some things that could be done right away.

The White warrior was told to take a nap while he had the time to do it, and so he did.
