District 42-Chapter 210: Ax family
’Ok... This guy is annoying... But he is useful’, Casper thought once he found himself among several Jarls from different families, all of them open to converse as much as he wanted.
They were so interested in Casper because he was someone from a family that they never heard about. The Jarls were probably trying to build a good relationship, so they could clean the way to future partnerships and agreements.
Some of them were there because they wanted to know if Casper represented some danger for their business as well. If anything, he could have been trying to enter a market already explored by some of those Jarls, and they needed to decide whether they would destroy his Company or bring it to their side.
"So... you were saying that your family just started to raise and get noticed... But what do you do exactly?" One of the Jarls questioned, taking a sip of the mead he was having in a huge mug.
That was the question that Casper was trying to avoid for a while, but he couldn’t run away forever.
"Well, my family is always trying to innovate, so we didn’t want to make something that others were already working on. We wanted to create a new market here inside the Castle. Unfortunately, we can’t say what it is until the final product is already approved, but it will come to the public soon." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
The Sgails agreed with each other that this explanation would be their standard if someone asked them this sort of thing about their fake family.
It wasn’t good to create a random thing without being cautious, because what they didn’t want was the antipathy of the Jarls, particularly specific ones that were known to go too far to maintain their companies untouchable.
The Jarls seemed to be relieved upon hearing what Casper had to say. They were even glad. It was one less battle to fight, after all.
"Hahaha, you are a very discreet person, huh?" Slapping him on the back again, the already drunk father of the Eoin family shouted at Casper.
When he was getting comfortable with someone, and particularly after drunk, he wasn’t just an arrogant person, but also a nasty one.
"Hehe, yeah... My family decided to act in the shadows for now. We are very sure that the product will have a huge boom very quickly."
The man slapped him once again. He was lucky that Casper was really striving to make things happen there, staying cool and calm, trying to be sympathetic.
"Ok, ok, young man, let’s go meet a good friend of mine. I am sure that you will like him a lot!" Taking another mug of mead with the person serving them, he guided Casper throughout the mansion again, greeting some people in the way.
He brought Casper to the second floor, basically forcing him to walk all the way there. He was being as noisy as never before, shouting at people, and drinking nonstop. The guy was really drawing a lot of attention, particularly to Casper.
’That’s good, but... Not too much when this guy starts to do something like this... I need to gather some information and socialize with people, but if he keeps being so outstanding like this, I will be in serious trouble...’
Although Casper was disguised, no disguise is perfect, and if a more sensitive person started to analyze him it was very likely they would find something strange there.
"Look, Casper! Over there!" The man pointed at another Jarl, tagging along with him as soon as possible and making sure to bring Casper with him.
"How are you, Kaleb!? It’s been so much time since we don’t see each other, I was barely missing this bold head of yours!" He mocked, then laughed at his own joke. That man must have find slap others in the back the ideal friendly greeting because he did it with all the people that crossed his way.
"You are too noisy when you start to drink, Gils. It’s better if you stop right now..."
Gils gave another energetic laugh, his eyes watering. It was even creepy how every single thing that people said to him turned to be a hilarious joke.
"You are being too busybody here, Kaleb! And I am not here to talk about myself, but to make your acquaintance with someone I am helping..."
He pointed to the White warrior, who was just confused beside him, it was something that anyone could see in his eyes.
Kaleb shook his head in disapproval, looking down on Gils as if he was conversing with a flea or something.
"You need to learn that you can’t get drunk when making the acquaintance of people, nor embarrass them in their first time here! What do you think he will think of us seeing such a pitiful scene?" The man scolded, crossing his arms and looking with anger towards Gils.
"Well, that’s something I can’t do at all... I mean, the source for my social skills is alcohol!" Another maid passed by him, carrying a tray with mead again, and he took two of them just to be sure that he wouldn’t run out of alcohol until the next maid passed again.
’Just how much does this guy can drink!?’ Casper thought, exasperated by his alcohol tolerance.
"Well, anyway, we are here just to make your acquaintance, so don’t be a nasty person and greet the young man, Kaleb!"
The Jarl shrugged his shoulders, rolling his eyes sarcastically towards Gils, who was gladly taking another huge sip of his mead. He, then, stretched his hands towards the soldier, showing him more sympathy than he would expect from a strict person like he showed to be before.
"It’s nice to meet you. I am Kaleb, current father of the family Ax. I am curious to know more about your family as well if you don’t mind me." That man was very polite as well, which contrasted with the friendly and frivolous image that Gils passed to Casper.
"I am a Jarl from a new family., yeah... It’s nice to meet you, as well. My family, currently, doesn’t have a name. Due to some issues, we need to change it, and it’s still being validated, so we are still a non-named one."
Casper smiled, trying to make that acquaintance the more pleasant as he could.
He and Kaleb shook hands, both seeming satisfied.
The White warrior could notice some doubt in his eyes, though. There was something that he was suspicious of, and it was no good.
"What was your name before?" That was the question that could break Casper’s legs if he didn’t know beforehand that something like that could be asked, and prepared himself for that.
The soldier maintained a neutral face and a sharp look towards the man’s face. He let some confidence flow; Casper needed to seem as assertive as possible, so Kaleb could believe what he had to say.
"I would prefer if we don’t talk about it. As I said, we had some family issues, and now are trying to solve them. I don’t feel too good needing to abdicate of our previous name like this, so it would be three times as hard to deal with it if I was to keep remembering it."
The Jarl got surprised by what Casper said to him.
"Hmm, it seems that we have a passionate person here... Well, don’t worry, I am sure that things will go well for you at some point. We all needed to pass through our crisis out of our glory days. Also, there is a time when the glory days seem to be harder than the previous ones..."
Casper giggled, finding that quote to be very true. He felt the same way when his glory days in the army started. He was a high-ranked soldier, had a squadron under his command, and earned a lot of money. However, with the amount of work that the soldier had, it was becoming more and more difficult as time passed and he kept on the same stage, but with a bit of luck ruling his life.
Kaleb also giggled with Casper, and that was the first time he let himself laugh for a while during that conversation.
"Well, anyway, I am curious to know, what does your family do inside the Castle?"
"Oh... we? Well, do you know the weapons that the Ridires use while in a serious battle situation?"
Casper nodded.
"Yeah. They are the so-called Helheim weapons, right?"
"Yes. And we are the family that created them. We are the first people to discover how to take destructive power out of Indigo Energy and use it as a way to protect our society. We are one of the main sources of the army of District 42 overall, and our inventions are countless others, but the masterpiece will always be guns."
The soldier barely could prevent himself from wide his eyes in surprise and excitement.
’Hmm... it looks like I hit the jackpot!’
