District 42-Chapter 177: Sgail
After what Casper heard the Princess say, then everything was clear on his mind. He relaxed, the anxiety was nearly gone. Now he was sure of what he needed to do, and all the scheme was passing through his mind, the basic protocols, the other missions of the sort that he was involved before... His mind was now rushing. There were still more datils that he wished for.
"If that’s the case, then I have a couple of questions to do about it. Give me more details, a more clear path to seek, orders, if you think it’s necessary, and then I can even do it all alone."
Casper was seriously confident that he could pull through that mission easily. At least, he would be able to always keep track of that guy and be the most annoying person he had ever seen in his years of life.
The Princess looked to the White warrior somewhat curious and also astonished. She wondered how prestigious and powerful Casper was in his homeland to be able to have such confidence in his abilities like that.
"Hold on, Casper. District 42 is a different matter than your homeland, I am sure of it. I mean, you are always amazed at the poorest technology that appears in front of you, and it made me think until now that your district isn’t as developed as ours. Investigation with primitive means is a thing, but with the resources we have, it’s completely different. You know that very well, you are not dumb."
Those words snapped the soldier back to reality, and he got pensive about that matter.
"I am pretty sure that you were someone really skillful in the place you came from, but here you are not. You are just a common person. Because of it, you need to be more prepared. It’s not just about us having another means to do our movements, but the enemies will be tough as well. What you are about to deal with aren’t unprepared Ridires from Halden, nor low-level Frelsi or anything like this."
Now, he wasn’t even thinking, but just got silent, looking to the ground. His face was just serious on the outside, but on the inside, he was boiling with anger and frustration. What she said was completely right, and there was no way to refute her. Casper himself had thought the same thing a lot of times until that point.
Of course, he had beat an Aesir during the escape in Halden, but that man had held himself to do a fair fight, without devices or any technology. He played Casper’s game and lost on it, but real enemies wouldn’t do the same as him.
He heard a sarcastic giggle and glanced at Leonel, who was with his arms crossed and pretending to not see or do anything.
"This guy... I am more or less starting to comprehend what type of person he is." Casper squinted his eyes towards him, biting his tongue to not say anything.
"Okay, then. I admit that I was a bit precipitated. I wanted to take action as fast as I could, just that. Anyway, what do you pretend to do, then, Princess?"
Vick was relieved that the soldier had stepped on his pride and seek help. That’s all that Vick was wishing for when saying all those harsh things.
"Since you will need to get used to our methods, and we are wanting to make sure you will not die on our test, you should do a short preparation during some days. You will be staying with the Sgails for some time, probably for the whole day. What do you think about it?"
"I don’t have another option, have I? I mean, I am sure I can’t even deny that." The Princess nodded, freezing his expectations with that cold stare of hers, making the soldier lower his head again.
"Ok, when will I start this short preparation, then?" He crossed his arms, unpleased. It wasn’t good to have his pride stepped on.
"We will start now," Leonel answered, rounding the table and stopping beside him.
"After all, we don’t have time to lose here, right?" Casper could notice a gleam of irony in his eyes.
Again, the Princess could predict what was going to happen and just got between the two.
"Stop being kids, you two shrimps. Just do your jobs, please. And, well, Casper... Starting today, you will be officially a Sgail, then. There is no need to change your mask since it is already black."
Casper frowned, getting a bit confused.
"Is there any reason to change the color of my mask? I don’t use it anyway." He was also curious as to why the Sgails had the Exiled Mask instead of a common one, or a White one, but it was something he probably would discover during his period of preparation.
"As I and Rurik said before, Casper, your mask is now an extension of your being, of your consciousness. If you are a Jarl, the mask shall show it, if you are a commoner, it’s the same. Even though you don’t wear it, traditions are traditions."
The soldier nodded. Anyone could find that pathetic, but he knew how a tradition could be intrinsically connected with someone since the day they were born. It was something that someone couldn’t just get rid of so easily, or take too lightly.
"Since our meeting seems to be ended by now... Then I and Casper will be going to the Sgail’s Headquarters, ok? May I show the way to him?" Leonel asked.
"Ok, then. And you can show it. Even if we don’t do it, he will discover the way somehow." Vick shrugged, then left the place.
The Sgail bowed deeply and just came back to his casual posture when the Princess was already out of sight.
"I was holding myself to ask about it during the meet... But that’s pretty interesting..." He approached Casper even more. "Someone who doesn’t use a mask taking part as a Sgail on the government’s issues... You may become the most dangerous person of this district, lad. Or, then, the most loyal. It will depend on how things will go."
"You don’t seem to be too concerned or surprise with the fact that I don’t use a mask." Casper pointed out, which made the Sgail giggle again, that same ironic giggle as always.
"Indeed, it’s pretty interesting. But I am in contact with the two people of this place who don’t use masks, so I am used to it. I am even pleased that you are in my group. Someone without a mask can be of a huge help sometimes."
With that said, he crossed Casper and walked towards the exit of that place.
"We gotta go to the Headquarters now. As I could see, your body is all messed. You need to train a bit. The sooner we start this preparation, the better."
...
Leonel had led Casper to a specific Teleporting pad inside that same floor. The soldier got confused for a while. He thought that the Headquarters of the Sgails would be right on that place, but his guess seemed to be wrong.
"Does your organization stay on another floor?" He asked.
Leonel sounded like a dumbass, but wasn’t as dumbass as Raul, that butler, who barely answered Casper’s questions.
"Maybe answer questions just help to inflate his ego even more, that’s why he doesn’t hold back." The soldier reasoned.
"Well, yeah, we stay here, but it’s not a place you can find just by searching through the floor, you know?"
Shrugging, the White warrior got up into the Teleporting pad and stood still there.
Instead of a call for the coordinates, the Sgail picked his smartphone and called to someone, asking for this person to vanish the data and activate that portal.
Casper didn’t have time to ask what was that about. They got teleported as soon as Leonel finished talking on the phone.
When they realized, they were already in front of a building made of dark metal, that was camouflaged in the shadows of that poorly lit place.
The last floor was very dark where they were before as if it was inactive and abandoned, but that local was a different matter.
The only part that had illumination was the cracks of the metallic door in front of them, that was the entrance to that place.
"It doesn’t seem a Headquarters at all... I have the feeling that I may get murdered, or tortured, or even worse than this if I step into it."
The Sgail laughed sarcastically, tapping Casper rudely on his head.
The soldier swore that the next tap would be the last, but unfortunately, the man stopped to do so just when he thought that.
"C’mon, White warrior! Don’t be scared by the facade. During one week, this place will be your home, and where you will finalize your rehabilitation. In no time you will be ready to go to whatever the mission that Vick has for you."
Leonel walked to the door and opened it. A strong light came from the inside, which made it impossible for Casper to see what had inside there.
"Ladies first." The Sgail mocked.
"Then you should be already inside there, jackass."
Casper entered the building.
