Chapter 172: Behind the scenes part 1

While Casper and Vick were conversing, exactly at that same hour, a chase was taking part in one of the cities of the Castle.

It wasn’t a common event, by the way. The seven cities that were inside there, were generally very calm. No harmful crimes happened in years, and the Ridires barely needed to act to do something.

The last issue that happened inside the Castle was related to the White warrior, who made that mess in Uppsala.

But that day was a different one. Things were getting strange at the Castle, and it started at the end of the afternoon.

In the city of the second floor, the first city, Canute was running through the streets hastily.

His speed was something to be envious of, particularly when you took into consideration that he was running with his staff in his back and all the other equipment he got.

"Darn... For Odin! What’s happening with those guys there!"

He entered into an ally, avoiding everything that was spread there quickly. He jumped to the sides swiftly, in a way where he wouldn’t lose speed.

That ally connected to a parallel street on the other side.

Once he got there, he looked up again. The Aesir clicked his tongue, and continued his chasing, always looking to the top of the buildings beside him.

"It’s time to go for it now!" He took the staff on his back, never stopping to run, and typed on the bracelet in his right forearm, setting some coordinates.

Before he finished it, the person escaping on top of the buildings jumped down towards the street. He was about twenty meters above, and for a moment the Aesir thought that he would, at least, broke his legs once he fell to the ground, but instead, the asphalt cracked under his feet when he landed.

People around panicked, seeing a man all covered in black clothes and with some devices attached to the body falling from the skies beside them.

That landing was really flashy. The guy wasn’t willing to be discreet there.

"He has a prosthesis, that’s for sure! Because of it, he is so quick!" Canute typed on the bracelet again, setting new coordinates.

In no time the man started to run again, his strong artificial legs boosting him with tremendous strength.

The Aesir finished typing the coordinates he needed to. He tightened the grip on his staff and activated it. Suddenly, a round portal appeared right in front of him, and another one in front of the fugitive, but some seconds anticipated.

They seemed like mirrors with a blue color but had an aspect that clearly showed that they were made of energy. Static rays kept going out and entering it.

The Aesir entered the portal, rushing forward with all he had. His body appeared in the next moment at the another portal. Seeing this, the fugitive tried to stop his impetus, but his speed was too high and he continued sliding through the asphalt.

Canute was already making the motion of a punch while getting out of that portal, and when inevitably the fugitive got in range, he delivered a punch in the middle of his face. The strength behind that blow sent a shock wave through his arm. The acceleration force of the criminal added to his own force, turned it to be a deadly punch.

The man’s head fell behind, hitting the asphalt, but his body kept going forward, sliding for some meters, until it stopped completely.

"Ok... I think now it’s okay." Canute was feeling a sharp pain in his wrist and shoulder, but he knew that it was nothing too concerning.

He walked slowly towards the man laying on the ground, he was already drawing the handcuffs in his waist just to make sure that he wouldn’t be making any moves anymore.

The citizens that were passing through there stopped to walk to look at what was happening. Their eyes were widened, and whispers could be heard everywhere.

For them, who were used to the safe and peaceful little world inside the Castle, that situation was a real nightmare.

Canute handcuffed the man, showing to be as calm as he could. He checked the man’s neck, to be sure that it wasn’t broken. Apparently, it was fine, but if he wanted to take some information from that criminal, he needed to bring him to the healer to keep that man alive.

"Don’t worry, you all!" He turned to the citizens, raising from the ground. "The threat is under control alrea-"

Before he could finish his statement, round metallic things bounced on the ground in front of him, exploding in a cloud of smoke.

The Aesir made a portal appear on his feet, falling into it and appearing several meters distant from there.

"Damn it! I wanted to take the body with me, but I can’t make a big portal so suddenly, and I couldn’t inhale that gas imprudent-"

Again, he was interrupted, this time not for smoke grenades, but for a shot that scratched his arm.

The Aesir took action at that exact moment, jumping to the side, somersaulting, and avoiding a burst of fire aimed at him. Once he got to his feet, he escaped to a near alley, hiding there before another rain of bullets pierced all his body.

He looked out of the alley, watching the street. Someone with the same clothes as the guy he knocked out appeared and entered the cloud of smoke, taking the body of his fallen friend from the ground and escaping.

"I can’t let him!" He began to type some coordinates in his bracelet frantically. He was going to finish it, however, he heard metallic sounds beside him.

He looked to the grenades falling on his side, then looked up, seeing another man dressed in black on top of a building on the alley’s right side.

Hastily, he made another portal beside him, jumping through it. The grenades exploded behind, launching his body forward in middle-air.

Canute passed that portal at high speed, appearing in an aleatory part of the city. He slid on the ground until his back collided with a parked vehicle. Some fire and wreckage also got out from the portal, scaring the people around and making them run for their lives.

The Aesir got up from the ground as fast as he could, feeling that probably one or two ribs got broken. He spat blood on the floor.

Once he got up, he took the weapon on his waist, one similar to a machine gun.

"I can’t hold the staff and the gun at the same time. I will need to think of something to do here... Should I go at full power? But there are a lot of citizens... I don’t know how many enemies have there..."

Once he confirmed that no enemies were going to appear through his portal, nor anywhere else, he kept the gun and drew the staff again, typing the coordinates as fast as he could and activating it.

He entered into the portal forming in front of him, then appeared on top of one of the buildings around the street where the attack took part.

As he thought, the enemies tried to not use the streets to escape, but the top of the buildings.

"Hmpf... As long as you keep here, where is high, it’s easier to deal with you!"

The criminals were jumping through the buildings swiftly, running at full speed at the meeting point.

Their rush suddenly was stopped for multiple portals appearing around them, in middle-air, always turned towards the group. They weren’t as big as the other ones that the Aesir had made, having only a span wide.

Suddenly, shots were heard from behind, but they never came from there, instead, the bullets started to appear through the portals.

The criminals used all the strength they had in their legs, jumping from building to building, in a rush to avoid that attack. Once they kept running, more portals appeared everywhere. It was a deadly trap, just like having an entire army shooting at them.

The group couldn’t prevent getting harmed. They had wounds through all their bodies.

"It’s here! Jump now!" One of them, who was taking the lead, yelled. The next time, they kicked the ground and jumped outside the building.

A flying Drakkar was parked around there and suddenly started to work again. Floating in the air and going at full speed towards the criminals.

They landed on board of the Drakkar, and it flew away.

The Aesir kept standing where he was, looking towards that vehicle going at full speed to the south of the city.

"I need that the Ridires of the First city organize themselves to pursue a Drakkar flying to the south. Almost six criminals are inside it." He warned in his communicator and received a response right after.

"Roger. We are aware of the events happening at 46th street. Don’t worry, Canute, leave this for us."

Canute sat on the edge of the building he was on top, with his hands on his ribs and the machine gun beside him, narrowing his eyes towards that Drakkar.

"Good work, Aesir..." A voice sounded behind him. He raised from where he was, trying to reach the machine gun beside him, but his arm got shot before he did.

In the other extreme of the building, someone was standing.
