District 42-Chapter 163: Progress part 1
Casper was finally returning to his usual job at the laboratory. He was excited to know if someone there could make any progress on their projects. It included people from other sections, like Astrid and the search group of AI, as well as Adam, with who he was interacting right at that moment.
"So, what are you planning to do?" For some reason, Adam was more aloof than usual. He seemed to be focusing completely on his work as always, but, before, he was able to, at least, answer a question.
Since Casper entered at the section and started to work with him, they exchanged some brief words, but the genius of the Main Lab was distant from his thoughts.
Adam already had made something like this in the past, but it was because he was brainstorming an invention that could help in his research, and on that day he had smoked a lot.
"Hey, Adam...?" The soldier was getting quite impatient with the man since both were working for a while together and Casper still didn’t know what they were doing exactly. He was just judging what the man was trying to do and help him with the minor things, but the device he was making was so complex that it didn’t matter for how long Casper stayed there interacting with that, he hadn’t any idea of what was going on.
It got to a point where he needed to snap his fingers in front of Adam to bring him to reality.
"Hmm? What’s it, Casper?" He asked as if it was the first time that the White warrior was calling him. It happened once a while ago, and then again, which made him get even more suspicious.
"I was asking what we will be doing by now... I mean, I asked a lot of times..." He tried to prompt the scientist to say something about that but received just a tired look.
"Well, sorry." Was all that he said about the second part. "Well, focusing on your question, then... I am working on this device that can help with transmigration. While you were gone I kept working on it for some time, and as we discovered that interdimensional particle transmigration was possible, I was looking forward to making the same procedure, but with something that is not a particle."
Casper understood what the scientist wanted to do right after he said that.
"Ok, do you want to transmigrate something like a pen, for example?"
"Wow... you are crazy, my first option was a pen..."
Both laughed at that coincidence. They were two idiots when talking to each other sometimes.
"Ok, but how you will do it? And how this thing can help us?"
"That’s basically an adaptation of an engine that is used inside the Teleporting pads. It basically splits something at an atomic level, then reunites everything as fast as it can. Because of it that we can travel through space so quickly with Teleporting pads.
"So, if we do the same thing while we try to transmigrate something solid, it can be possible, and then we can give our next steps."
Casper nodded with his head, comprehending that matter. It was something quite complicated, but after pass some time working on that lab, he was becoming quicker to understand those subjects.
"And your plan to create a mini-universe? Did you do that already, or are you working on it?"
Adam smiled slightly behind his mask, looking to Casper proudly and passing something looking like a snow globe to him.
Inside that globe, right in the center, there was a shiny sphere.
"It has the same size as an ant, but the inside has the same size as 1/20.000.000.000 of our universe. It’s something amazing, and it’s expanding with time. Talking about time, the conception of time there happened to be slower than here in every point of the universe by an average difference of one century."
"One century!?"
The scientist nodded. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Yes. There are places with a delay of the double of it. Maybe it will get some time to things happen inside this thing, but when it starts, it will be interesting. And I will try to find a way to accelerate the process as well."
Casper was getting very excited about the outcome of everything. While he was out, a lot of progress was made for sure. He couldn’t wait to go see how the other scientists were going in the other sections.
"Ok, let’s go, then. I will help you with this thing here, and then I want to know more about how you made a universe with your own hands."
Casper cracked his fingers and stretched his arms. He picked the globe and was going to put it where Adam had taken it before. Just then, he noticed that there was a bunch of papers and data on top of his table.
"Hey... what’s..." He was going to take a better look at that, but Adam slowly picked the papers and turned them down without saying a word.
Casper looked at him confused. That wasn’t something the scientist would do, usually.
He decided to not argue about that and just returned to his work, but couldn’t stop to think what were those papers and why Adam was so protective about them.
...
Casper had arrived at the laboratory 6 and a half in the morning. Since then, he had been working nonstop with Adam on his project. There was a lot of research to do. For various times he needed to go work on something else, and a lot of people called him for help.
In his first month inside the Main Lab, Casper had worked like that just one or two times. Maybe that time was the busiest one he had.
It got to a point where he didn’t see the time passing, and when he realized it was already past noon.
He was beside Adam, who was taking a 5-minute nap (Casper didn’t know how the hell that man could get energy from a 5-minute nap, but Adam was beyond all the human limitations regarding rest and sleep). The soldier took advantage of that time to take a break from everything that was going on.
At that time, usually, the scientists would get something to eat, or they would exchange food and energy for some time sleeping. There was the third option, which was to forget about the everyday necessity they had and just keep working until late at night. Incredibly, 80% of the laboratory would choose the third option without even reasoning too much on this.
"I don’t know how these guys can keep standing like this... The second most used option isn’t even the first, but the second. These scientists generally just snack around when they are working, it’s even amazing how they can ignore their hunger and exhaustion to just push forward..."
Not all the time they did it. It depended a lot on the day as well. At the start of the year, most of the laboratories were working on something important, so it was hard for them to afford to get too much rest. If someone slacked even a little bit, it would get in the way of the work of another coworker.
Mainly in big projects, the scientists needed to act as a group, work together and cooperate perfectly, and it meant that they would need to suffer together as well, willing or not.
"I think I will be going to eat something. Probably, after his five-minute nap, Adam won’t even notice that I am gone." He stood from the chair carefully, though it was unnecessary. Adam wouldn’t wake up until his alarm rang. Otherwise, anyone could even punch him, and he wouldn’t open his eyes or even moan.
Casper got out of that place and decided to do something else. The Main Lab had a cafeteria, but he always brought something for him to eat.
While walking, he began to eat his lunch and look around.
"By the way... I remember that I have a couple of things to solve in some sections. Back a month ago, I was helping out some sections and doing other things... Ah! There is my new desk as well, which kept untouched until now..." Coincidentally, Casper was already passing in front of the section where the search group that MMA led was.
"Bingo!" The soldier got some more of his food before entering there.
The reaction of those people after seeing him was the same as the others from his group. They seemed to have a lot to question as well, but they were a lot more organized and less noisy than his main group, and let Casper with his space.
"Casper. It’s good to see you." A serious and calm voice was heard. It had a strange accent, and his way of speak was unusual.
"It’s good to see you MMA."
As straightforward as he was, the genius scientist didn’t lose time and asked Casper:
"I have something for you. Work. It is interesting. Do you want to come?"
Casper had an idea of what it was and grinned.
"Of course! Let’s go."
