Chapter 157: Suicidal Aesir

"B-but..." Rurik tried to argue with the Princess, but the last didn’t let him even start his quote.

She burst into the room, getting near him, making the Aesir nearly fall from the chair he was on top. Casper was going to rush for it, aiming to prevent him to fall, but the guy could take his balance back.

"No ’buts’ for me, Rurik! How many times do we talked about it!? I need you alive, you jerk!"

"So what if you need me alive or not!? The life is mine, and I have the right to decide what I will do with it! I am your subordinate but I can die if I want."

The Princess was holding him by the waist, trying to reach the rope around his neck to take it off, but Rurik was making it very difficult for her.

"Argh! Stop, now! And what are you talking about your life be yours? The exact moment you turned into an Aesir you vowed your life for the Real family and the Jarls, so your life is basically mine now!"

"Noooo! Nobody said to me that it would be like this! What kind of job is that, where I can’t afford myself even to rest in peeeace!? That’s cruel!" Because of the ruckus, the chair he was on top was swinging to all sides, and a lot of times he nearly fell again. If not for the Princess, he would be already gone.

The man was complaining about his life and refuting the Princess. The soldier found that to be so strange and unexpected that he was thinking that the Aesir was just kidding or something, but tears of genuine despair were flowing out of his eyes, and his voice was truly choked.

"C-Casper, help me here, please!" Vick was losing her balance while trying to take hold of that man, and glanced at Casper who was still out of the room, looking to them flabbergasted.

"M-may I...?" He asked, pointing to himself.

"No! You can actually take this thing off me, and I don’t want to! Stay still where you are, bastard! And now I will see if someone will stop me!" With his final quote, he kicked the chair. Casper got impressed with how strong his legs were. His kick was so amazing that it broke that thing into pieces.

Vick tiptoed, trying to prevent him to get suffocated.

"Casper!"

"No! Stay there, flour head!"

Casper was nearly paralyzed by all that situation. The man was gasping and spitting around, really getting suffocated. His eyes were starting to jump out of the orbits and get reddish.

The soldier drew the knife that was in his waist, bursting inside the room, jumping, and cutting the rope.

The Princess this time couldn’t bear the weight of that man and finally fell with him. The Aesir breathed a high quantity of air at once, and his face was getting into its normal color again.

All of that had lasted for just some minutes, and most of the time Casper just stayed still at the same place, but for some reason, the soldier was already gasping, as if his lungs were smaller than before.

Vick stood up from the ground, cleaning her dress and looking towards Rurik with murderous eyes.

"Jerk... That’s disrespectful. You shall be punished for this!" She kicked him in the neck.

"Then, as a punishment, throw me inside a Vulcan..." Now, the Aesir was just laying on the ground, with a dejected tone of voice and tears still flowing in his eyes.

"No! I already said that I need you alive! And why are you trying to kill yourself in the first place?"

"Because that’s a beautiful place to die... If I could die, at least..." His voice got more choked in the last part.

That quote seemed to get the Princess even more infuriated.

"If you know that you cannot die, then why are you being so stubborn!?" She kicked him again.

"Because it will never happen if I don’t try!"

"Trying or not it will be the same, you shrimp!" Another kick.

"Kick stronger, please! I am starting to feel dizzy, maybe it can work!"

The Princess seemed to be so angry that she was about to try to kill him herself.

"Hey, hey, hey! Stop it already, for Odin’s sake!" Casper shouted, clapping his hands to draw their attention.

Both stopped to argue and looked at him.

"Ok... Who will start to explain to me what is going on?"

...

Casper was sitting on the bed inside the doctor’s room. Things finally calmed down, and he could have a normal conversation with those two. He was looking intently for both of them.

"So... Are you saying to me that he is an Aesir? A healer?" Casper was trying to absorb the information he got.

"Yes. He is one of the 7." Vick nodded.

"And they say that he is immortal, but he wants to take his own life for his own reasons?" That part was so ironic that Casper couldn’t help himself but nearly laugh at it.

"Yes. I want to experiment what life is, and death is part of living. This world is cruel, is unfair, and, most of all, is filled with darkness and suffering, with bad feelings; so death serves for us to be freed of this cruelty." The man seemed some kind of religious fanatic preaching his ideals.

"The cycle of life is unchangeable, and an anomaly like me shouldn’t be walking on this planet. I want to complete my cycle and be finally free!" While he stated it, tears were still flowing in his eyes and Casper didn’t know if the guy was moved by his own speech or if he was still sad, or both.

The soldier kept looking at his face, blinking several times, and looking at Vick from time to time, feeling lost.

"But... you can’t die... right?" He asked, frowning hard.

The Aesir got two times as melancholic as he was before, and his crying intensified.

"Yes! You don’t need to remember me of this, snow-hair! I got this a long time ago!"

"B-but..." Casper was still not believing in his ears. He didn’t know what he found the most strange: the guy being supposedly immortal or the fact that he was trying to take his own life.

"Hey..." Vick called him, and he approached. "Don’t take him too seriously. He is very powerful, just like any other Aesir, but, you know, all geniuses have their peculiarities... It’s just that... he is a bit more extreme..."

Casper nodded, still disturbed by his behavior.

Rurik had stopped to cry again after the Princess talked to him for a bit. His eyes were still filled with tears, but they weren’t leaving. Casper was relieved to not see a grown man crying anymore. It was such a sight that left him without knowing what to do.

"Will this guy starts to ramble about life again or are we saved for now...?" By the sight of Rurik’s crazy sadness from before passing on his mind, a chill went down Casper’s spine.

"So, since now things calmed down, we will do what we were intending to do when coming here, ok?" Vick said. "Rurik can seem to be pretty helpless, but he is a talented doctor, and that’s why I brought you here. He is the most reliable person to make a general check-up on your body."

"W-wait, will this guy be the one taking care of me?" He pointed his finger to him, which was trembling slightly.

The Princess nodded, and Rurik was already operating some devices and typing in a computer from time to time.

Casper looked back and forth for those two, his face getting paler.

"You are kidding me, right? No way I will let him do it, he doesn’t seem too reliable..."

"That’s why life is such a bother. I need to hear people underestimating me... stubborn... Maybe next time will be on that bridge... That was a beautiful place..." Now, Rurik was just complaining in a depressed tone, as if life was the most despicable thing in the world.

"You see?" Casper emphasized, pointing with both hands at the same time.

"Don’t worry, as I said, geniuses are always like this, and you probably will need to deal with other Aesirs, so..." She looked at him as if begging that he gave Rurik a chance.

"Ok, I will see how it goes..." For Casper, someone who evaluated life this little would never take care of him carefully.

After being convinced to cooperate, Casper leaned on the bed. Vick stayed in the room, paying attention to all the procedures.

Rurik showed to be more careful than the soldier had assumed before, and during all that check-up he was getting each time more relieved. It got to a point where he even sighed in relief. He was really concerned about that situation.

After everything ended, the Aesir went to organize all the results to give him feedback. It didn’t take too much time, as the man was efficient.

"Ok... I have bad news... No wonder, we are alive after all, bad news is a must, right?"
