Chapter 108: Execution

Casper’s eyes were going dried because of the time he needed to pass looking to those screens several times and analyze the situation while he worked in the countermeasures to prevent the Ridires to vanish his troops.

As he saw through the cameras, Alfar was doing an awesome job, making the prisoners engaged in battle in the vanguard retreat and tell the others to do the same thing. Olaf was helping as well. The majority of prisoners were settled in the rearguard, wiping the Ridires and dominating the different rooms set in the South of Halden’s complex.

Just in that part, they had a lot of things to conquer, and they needed everything entirely clean to make sure that they would have a good basis to start with the rest. However, as the order for the retreat came, even under the drug’s effect and with the will to make it happen rapidly, the prisoners started to retreat.

Casper was expecting that they would do it. Of course, after free them from the masks and cells (with a promise to make it happen even in the escape), there was no way that they wouldn’t respect him.

"Ok, ok. I am almost finishing. But I need that everyone gets together inside the courtyards to it. I need to keep them safe first." He never typed so quickly and accurately like that before. His anxiety rose every time he saw that those Ridire groups were coming and starting to approach the south side of Halden.

He was hoping that they would be slower in their march, but it wasn’t like that. The warriors were in a haste, and their faces, even from far away, carried a relentless look. That was an expression that Casper feared the most. One could guess their intentions just by looking in their eyes.

"They are arriving! I need more time, damn!" He approached his face from those black screens in front of him, as if it would help him to type faster and find the right codes to put into there and make the effect he needed.

Casper, then, could witness something that left him with his jaw dropped. In the cameras he had in front of him, that wasn’t all of them, a prisoner was too advanced and exchanging bullets with a bunch of Ridires. He seemed to be giggling and smiling at that. The Berserker had made him go completely crazy. He probably was someone addicted on Berserker before that and had a sensibility for it.

When he finished with the Ridires he was fighting with, those new troops arrived. They had the same looks from before, walking imposingly, but carefully. If Casper was asked, he would say that those were on a different level from the others that were guarding Halden.

One of the men from that new troop ended up spotting that drugged man, who was pointing the improvised gun towards them.

It was a split-second reaction, something that Casper saw sometimes at the army, and in some athletes as well.

Once that Ridire spotted the threatening, he clicked in a device shaped like a necklace in his chest. A barrier appeared in front of him at the same time as the prisoner shot against them.

Of course, the bullets had no effect. The prisoner stopped to shot, knowing that nothing would come from shooting that barrier.

Once the device entered in cooldown and that thing disappeared, he was going to fire again, but before he could even pull the trigger, a bullet was already stuck in his head.

"These guys aren’t here to arrest or surrender..." Casper thought, disturbed, with his face distorting in one filled with fury and worry. "They were sent to execute."

...

Rolvur was in the upper levels of the Third Lab, walking with heavy steps and with a look in his eyes that showed how furious his expression should be behind his mask. He was clenching his fists and moving at a pace that was barely believable for someone as unhealthy as him.

Everyone in the upper levels of the Lab knew how to differ a scientist from Halden when they saw one, and the opinions that each scientist had about them were quite different, but all of them could agree that those guys were despicable.

In the upper and lower levels, they also made experiments with humans, nobody could deny it... but Halden was a different matter. A totally different matter...

Some of the scientists admired Halden’s Lab for it since one needs to throw away his humanity to work there. However, others just thought that they were cold-blooded killers who used science as an excuse to be maniacs.

"Get out of my way! Get out!" The Principal from Halden’s Laboratory was yelling at each scientist who dared to get in his way, gesturing with his arms and hands exaggeratedly.

Although they hated the Ridires, the upper-level scientists were about to ask them to arrest that guy.

Rolvur arrived at a room with double doors and a signaling board saying: Headquarters.

He clicked his tongue in disdain while opening that door with his card without even calling before. He had the authority to enter into whatever room he wanted, so he used his card carefreely.

"I want to talk with the superiors from here immediately!" He shouted, entering in there like a hurricane.

The Ridires that were doing their meetings, talking about different issues regarding their actions into the Third lab, looked at him. Every single one was getting really pissed off, but the Principal didn’t care at all and continued hurrying them until one of them stopped the meeting and walked in front of him.

"I am the General here, and the second highest rank in this Laboratory. As I am the second encharged for everyone here, you can talk with me, sir." He was being polite, but a perceptive person could notice the ironic and cold tone in his voice. The Principal could, but did not comment about that.

"I don’t want to talk with small fish, I want the person encharged for you and every single dog here."

The General got quiet after that offense, probably needing some time to prevent himself to punch that fat guy in the face.

"It will not be possible, sir. He isn’t here now. He went to make something else outside the Headquarters and ordered me taking care of everything."

Rolvur seemed to be unsatisfied with that matter, but nothing was helping it. Sighing hard, he began to explain why he was visiting them so suddenly.

"I am here because of the last order given to the Ridires from the Third Lab. Your superior decided to make execution in my precious animals in Halden. Who gave him permission to do this idiotic, ignorant, stupid, and illogical decision!?"

The General nearly giggled at him, thinking that it would be awesome to see the face he would do when hearing his next words.

"Project Draugr, sir. We are taking part in these executions together with the scientists to start it already."

The blood drained from Rolvur’s face for a while, his jaw dropped, and his mind was trying to absorb what he just told him.

"Are you saying that all these years of effort and research will be wiped completely by you jerks!? Don’t mess with my laboratory! Those are my Guinea pigs! You got yours a while ago, didn’t you?"

The Ridire wasn’t willing to talk much with him about that matter. He crossed his arms, looking to the Principal from above.

"We did. We got some Guinea pigs. But most of them are over, be it a failure or a success, it’s not from your business. The fact is that we need more, and although you are the Principal of Halden’s Lab, you aren’t the owner from that place." He shrugged. That warrior was trying to humiliate him.

"I want to talk with Freygar right now! I will solve things with him since I can’t do it with powerless incompetents like you!" The fat man snapped. After that argument, he was barely able to breathe.

"You will not solve things with him. He gave the agreement for this action, but it’s not the actual person who demanded it. Besides, he is participating in the operation right now."

"Then, who the hell do I need to contact to have my doubts answered!?"

Suddenly, someone behind him said:

"You can talk with me, Rolvur. I will let everything very clear to you"

The fat man turned his body slowly, not believing in what he was hearing.

In the entrance of the Headquarters was a woman wearing the Third Lab’s green lab coach, with black clothes under it. She had playful eyes, but that showed how insightful she was as well. Her blond hair was bulky like that of a lioness.

Catrina walked inside the room, looking intently at Rolvur.

"Please, ask me whatever you want, Principal, and I will hear attentively." She smiled with her eyes, leaning on a near wall.
