Chapter 237: 237. Being Worshiped

After a round of laughter, everyone couldn’t help but ask curiously, "Jin’er, we heard you went hunting wild boar with your dad. That’s amazing!"

"It’s not that amazing. I was just tagging along. It was mainly my dad and the others who caught a few wild chickens," Jin’er said modestly.

"Catching wild chickens is impressive enough. We can’t even dream of capturing a single wild chicken feather," Daya said sincerely admiring.

She was the oldest among them, already fifteen. If it weren’t for this sudden disaster, her family would have started looking for a match for her.

At fifteen or sixteen, it’s the most beautiful time of life. Even with darker skin, she’s like a budding flower, yet these days she’s become much fairer, catching Jin’er’s eye.

"That’s not true. It’s because you catch them less frequently. If you catch more often, you’ll naturally succeed too. Besides, you’re learning now. Keep practicing, and you’ll react faster, making it easier. Plus, I had help," Jin’er said, opening her small satchel and taking out the tiny crossbow her father crafted for her.

"What’s this...?"

Looking quite impressive, Daya and the others widened their eyes in curiosity, though they dared not touch it.

"It’s the small crossbow my father made for me."

"A small crossbow... what’s that?" They genuinely didn’t know.

"How do I explain? It’s correctly a weapon. You know bow and arrow, right?"

Speaking of that, Daya, Xiaomao, and the others understood, nodding quickly. Liu Huahua’s family had a bow.

"A small crossbow is similar to a bow and arrow. Both shoot arrows. Look..." Jin’er opened the arrow case, gesturing for her sisters to see, "But you mustn’t touch here. Once you pull the trigger, the crossbow arrow shoots out, which can easily hurt someone accidentally. Mastering it isn’t hard; just requires practice..."

Jin’er seriously explained to her friends, who listened wide-eyed. The more they looked at the small crossbow in Jin’er’s hands, the more they couldn’t help but envy. Each girl’s eyes shone brightly.

They always admired Jin’er. Although their parents loved them, they couldn’t compare to Jin’er. Now, they envied even more, wishing they had a father who could make a small crossbow.

It’s simply incredible to make something so amazing.

Compact and easy to carry, most importantly, it has powerful lethality. Carrying it makes a great defense weapon. Even going out alone, one feels more confident and less fearful.

Seeing the envious looks from her friends, Jin’er emptied the arrow case and handed it to them, "Go ahead, touch it."

After everyone carefully felt it, seeing their lingering eyes even after touching, Jin’er generously offered with a smile, "Want to try it?"

"Can we?" Daya and the others looked at Jin’er in surprise, somewhat disbelieving that Jin’er would generously let them try such a precious thing. Jin’er was truly kind.

"Of course, we’re good sisters. Let’s go back and put on more clothes, then outside the cave," Jin’er said generously.

"Okay," the girls answered happily, running out of the tent. Soon, including Jin’er, the girls rushed out of the cave, drawing the curiosity of some half-grown boys who followed.

"Play near the cave, okay?" watched by adults from inside.

"Got it."

The girls were right by the wind-sheltered area near the huge rock, followed by a few curious boys.

Jin’er looked around, then walked to a tree a few meters away, taking a carbon stick from her satchel, and drew a circle on the trunk, with the middle circle the clearest.

"Daya, let me give you all a try," she said as she stood with them, aiming at the dark circle in the center of the drawn ring.

"Archery isn’t really hard but also not easy. Mainly considering external factors like wind force, humidity, etc. However, these factors mostly affect long-distance shots and not us. Just focus and aim," Jin’er explained.

As she spoke, Jin’er pulled the trigger. A crossbow arrow disappeared like a meteor, swiftly embedding in the tree trunk, its tail trembled, causing Daya, the others, and the nearby boys to exclaim in shock!

Excited, everyone couldn’t help but run to the tree to inspect closely. Then, looking at Jin’er, all that was left were glances of admiration.

The crossbow arrow was embedded tightly in the black circle.

"Jin’er, you’re amazing," Xiaoxiao and Huahua ran excitedly to Jin’er, looking at her with such admiration it almost made Jin’er feel shy.

But why was there a sense of pride in her heart?

"It’s alright. If you practice often, you won’t be bad."

"Who wants to start?" Jin’er held out the small crossbow.

The girls looked at each other, and finally, Huahua spoke first.

"Let’s have Daya start first, by age order."

With that, everyone had no objections and agreed, nodding. It prevented any hard feelings due to order.

"Or maybe, the younger ones should go first?" Daya said shyly.

"No problem, Daya goes first." With Daya being polite, Xiaomao and the others didn’t mind and went along.

They’d all get a chance; it was just about waiting a bit.

Only the few half-grown boys were itching to try, but no one paid them attention.

"Alright, I’ll go first," Daya agreed, taking the small crossbow from Jiner’s hands.

With Jin’er’s guidance in stance, despite being nervous and excited, her hands holding the crossbow kept involuntarily trembling.

Naturally, the first shot ended up in the snow, but even so, Daya was happy enough.

By the second shot, she was slightly better, still missing the target but at least her hands shook less.

On the third shot, her heart was steadier, and the outcome improved. Though still missing the circle, she hit the tree trunk, showing progress each time.

Facing Jin’er’s encouraging smile, underneath the cloth, Daya’s face was rosy and thrilled.

Then it was Xiaomao, Huahua, Xiaoxiao... Finally, Ying Zi. Not one sister missed having a try.

The rounds went quickly, but it was truly thrilling.

"Jin’er, thank you. This crossbow is fantastic."

Experiencing it first-hand, the girls grew fonder of Jin’er’s crossbow, especially the feeling of releasing an arrow. It was truly exhilarating.

"There’s no need to thank me. We’re all good sisters. I’ll bring a grass target from home next time, so you can practice more when free. Eventually, your archery will become accurate. It’s too cold now for longer practice."

"No, no, we’re happy just trying it. You don’t have to bring it over; better avoid accidentally damaging it," they respectfully declined, knowing it was too precious to practice regularly, and waved their hands.

"No worries, the crossbow is sturdy, and the arrows on a grass target won’t easily damage it. Even if there’s an issue, my dad can fix it, so don’t worry."
