Chapter 201: 201. Prepare

"Dad, where are you going?" Clearly, the mountain is right in front, yet Dad was leading them along the mountainside; Hua Yunxiang couldn’t help but question this.

Aren’t we going hunting? Wouldn’t it be easier to go up the mountain directly? What’s the point of taking such a detour?

Glancing at his son, Hua Chengtian spoke.

"Keep an eye out, and let me know if you spot a mountain with sparse vegetation and many rocks."

Bringing them here was for work, so Hua Chengtian naturally gave his instructions.

"Dad, why? Aren’t we here to hunt? Why are we looking for a rocky mountain?" At this moment, the second brother transformed into a curious child, full of questions.

"Why so much chatter? Just look for it when I tell you to." Hua Chengtian glared at his bothersome son.

Being grown up, why so many questions?

"Look... look..." Seeing his father angry, the second brother dared not say more.

Hua Jin watched and couldn’t help but smile. This is what happens when you talk too much. One can’t help but compare — the eldest brother is wiser, holding back questions even if there are many inside.

Unable to deal with his dad didn’t mean he couldn’t handle his sister. Seeing his little sister laughing heartily, he couldn’t hold back.

"Oh, you ungrateful little one, despite how much I usually dote on you, you dare to make fun of me? Watch how I’ll deal with you." He pretended to chase after her, but the quick-moving Heida and Huier blocked him in the blink of an eye.

The speed was such that he was toppled over with one swift kick, just like how the elders at home protected their kids.

Hua Yunxiang: "..."

He climbed up and patted Heida on the head, disgruntled, "You’re ungrateful too, all those treats were wasted on you."

Unfortunately, Heida just lazily glanced at him and then sat down next to the nearly bursting-out-laughing Hua Jin, looking like a loyal bodyguard.

Speaking of treats, who gives more than the little owner? Every day they’d secretly slip them fragrant jerky. Of course, they had to cling to the little owner’s legs, Heida gave Hua Yunxiang a meaningful look.

Hua Yunxiang: "..." Frustrated.

"Alright, really did something by quarreling with Heida now. Get going," Hua Yunao couldn’t stand to watch any longer, gently kicking his second brother, signaling him to look at their dad’s expression.

Hua Yunxiang hurriedly followed with a smile, quickening his pace, and seriously observed the surrounding mountains.

Speaking of Hua Village, it had stood at the foot of Qinggu Mountain for nearly a hundred years, and this was the first time Hua Chengtian scrutinized the mountain behind their village so seriously.

They had walked several miles north along the foot of the mountain, yet had barely gotten past a few big mountains, without finding the kind of mountain they were searching for.

As for crossing mountains, Hua Chengtian didn’t want to take such risks unless absolutely necessary. Although he was much more skilled than before and armed with a crossbow, there were too many wild beasts in the mountains; for the children’s sake, he had to be cautious and first explore the foothills of the surrounding mountains. Who knows, they might get lucky and find something.

Thinking about his daughter’s luck, Hua Chengtian felt increasingly confident.

Heida and the three of them were truly excited, darting around the mountain base non-stop, even lucky enough to corner a dazed wild rabbit.

It was caught with blood still dripping, and was discarded onto Hua Yunxiang’s back basket, mainly because the fine rabbit skin was valuable; it made warm boots for winter.

Hua Jin gave the dogs an encouraging look, which made them even more excited, soon adding two more pheasants to the basket.

Unknowingly, another tea time had passed. After their excitement, the dogs calmed down, two walked obediently in the front scouting the path, while one always stayed close to Hua Jin and them.

"Dad, look..." Hua Yunxiang suddenly exclaimed, pointing at a clearly sparsely vegetated mountain, "Dad, isn’t that rocky mountain the one we’re looking for?"

If it weren’t for the keen-sighted second brother pointing it out, Hua Chengtian might have missed it. This mountain was wedged between two others, only revealing a part of itself. It was quite tall, taller than the two mountains in the front, and compared to the lush vegetation of the surrounding mountains, it indeed had much less, sparse and scarce.

But getting there required crossing between two mountains, luckily it didn’t require climbing the whole mountain, just crossing at the confluence of the two mountains, at a height of only about twenty percent of the entire mountain, relieving Hua Chengtian.

Following her second brother’s voice, Hua Jin saw it too, inexplicably finding it familiar, the more she looked, the more familiar it seemed, then her eyes brightened.

If she’s not mistaken, this is likely the mountain where they resided in her dream.

It’s not that she couldn’t remember, but the scenes in her dream shifted too fast. One moment at home, the next already in the mountains, otherwise, she would’ve directed Dad there directly instead of spending effort to search.

"Dad, let’s go up," Hua Jin couldn’t help herself, wanting to find the cave they stayed in to confirm.

"Alright," Hua Chengtian was more than willing, instructing the two sons to hold on to their sister and calling for the three big dogs to climb the mountain.

Though the entire mountain was quite tall, it wasn’t steep, and climbing wasn’t too exhausting. In almost no time, they reached the confluence of the two mountains.

At this point, the benefits of having Heida and the others were evident. With them around, there was no need for their bodies to be constantly tense; any slight disturbance was detected beforehand.

During their climb, three snakes and two rabbits had been startled away.

Descending was quicker, taking another incense-stick’s time to reach the target mountain. Meanwhile, a mountain slanting behind it looked the same, bald and barren, with exposed stones and sparse vegetation.

Seeing the mountain full of rocks, Hua Chengtian was delighted, for this was exactly the kind of mountain he was looking for; even heavy rains wouldn’t be a threat.

"Let’s go, climb the mountain," an excited Hua Chengtian began to climb up.

"Dad, you still haven’t told us why we’re looking for a rocky mountain? Besides, climbing this barren place, what are we actually doing? Please tell us, so we can have a goal," after a while, Hua Yunxiang couldn’t hold back anymore.

This mountain seems pointless, and without a clear purpose from Dad, he lacked the motivation to climb; finding shade was even difficult, and the blazing sun wasn’t helping.

This time, Hua Yunao agreed with the second brother; they needed to know the purpose of climbing, to search effectively.

Then nodded, "Dad, the second brother is right, we need to know what we’re doing up there."

"Looking for a cave, a high-up cave. Come on, pick up the pace, it gets hotter by noon."

Hua Chengtian intended to say it anyway, he didn’t mind the increasingly confused look from his sons, pulling his daughter along as they climbed up.

Hillsides below weren’t in Hua Chengtian’s plans, for safety; the higher, the better.

He climbed up to the mid-mountain height in one go before stopping.

"Start looking from here. Yunao, Yunxiang, take Heihui and Huanger to search on that side. Whether you find it or not, meet back here in an hour. Hua Jin and I will search the other side, and stay alert."

"Yes, Dad," the two brothers exchanged a look, nodding.

"Alright, go."

"Heihui, Huanger, protect the big brother and second brother, shout if there’s danger, okay?" Hua Jin reminded, and they barked a response.

Though this wasn’t considered deep mountains, danger still existed. Hua Jin couldn’t quite rest easy.

"Don’t worry, little sister, the skills big brother and second brother learned weren’t for nothing, and besides, we have this," Hua Yunxiang said, pulling the crossbow from the basket.

"We know, Dad and little sister need to be careful as well," Hua Yunao added, also concerned.
