Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space-Chapter 19. Good endurance
Chapter 19 - 19. Good endurance
Jin'er indeed sees this seemingly timid and fearful Hua Xiaocao differently.
Under so many distrustful gazes, she can still defend herself. When she was that age, she wasn't as capable as Hua Xiaocao.
Honestly, this girl's mental resilience is quite significant, though it isn't being used in the right way.
If not for having seen Hua Xiaocao's guilty and fearful look when she watched her, she might have truly believed her.
"Hua Xiaocao, does what I think of you matter? What's important is whether you did it or not... In your heart, you know better than anyone else. Since you don't admit it, fine, I really can't do much to you. But remember, if you do too many guilty things, you'll eventually run into ghosts," Jin'er's low voice carried a trace of malice, making Hua Xiaocao's heart feel uneasy.
It seems that seeking revenge for the original girl won't work, but the slap from mom is at least a bit of interest collected first.
No rush, there's plenty of time in the future, there will always be a day for revenge.
Thinking that from now on, Hua Xiaocao's days wouldn't be easy, Jin'er immediately felt a lot better.
"Jin... Jin'er, whether you believe me or not... I really haven't had any ill intentions towards you, I know you've been thinking a lot since that accident happened, I don't blame you..."
Hua Xiaocao wiped her tears and sobbed, vividly portraying a small white flower bearing grievances on its own.
Jin'er really doesn't like seeing this; small white flowers are the most annoying.
"Mom, let's go pick some wood ear mushrooms."
Since Hua Xiaocao won't admit it, Jin'er was reluctant to tangle with her anymore. Since there were so many wood ear mushrooms on a dead tree, she should pick them rather than leaving them.
"Alright," Qi Shi gave Hua Xiaocao a harsh glare but then offered her daughter a gentle smile, allowing Jin'er to pull her away.
Little Four also gave Hua Xiaocao a glare and quickly grabbed grandmother to catch up with his sister and mom.
Seeing this, the other people dispersed themselves, but there was still a hint of a strange look in their eyes when they glanced at Hua Xiaocao.
This place had many good things, and if not for the matter with Jin'er, they would have spread out long ago to search for wild products.
Everyone thought the same; since they came, it wouldn't do to leave without scavenging a bit.
As for Hua Xiaocao, she quickly left when everyone wasn't paying attention.
It wasn't until she reached the foot of the mountain that she breathed a sigh of relief, her gaze full of hatred as she looked back at the mountain, her eyes more filled with venom as she thought of the upcoming challenges she would face.
But she had nowhere else to go; leaving would only lead to death. Thinking of this, her heart was filled with more hatred, bitterly calling out Jin'er's name.
One day, someday, she would live better than anyone else. Jin'er, you... wait and see, Hua Xiaocao turned towards the village, her eyes filled with turbulent undercurrents.
The speed of the people on the mountain was very fast. Soon, the wild mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms around were almost all picked, and everyone had quite a good harvest.
On this side, Jin'er was accompanying mom and grandma, carefully picking wild wood ear mushrooms by the tree, when they heard Little Four's exclamation.
"Mom, Grandma, look at what I found!" As he spoke, Little Four emerged from a bush not far from the hillside, holding a basket in his hand.
"Mom... it's sister's basket."
Despite his little short legs, in a blink, Little Four ran over to them swiftly, scaring Qi Shi into repeatedly shouting, "Slowly, slowly, be careful."
"Mom, I found sister's basket."
The surprise in the little fellow's voice also attracted the nearby women, who all came over to look.
Seeing her son not taking her words to heart, Qi Shi quickly grabbed him, nearly unable to resist smacking him on the head.
This smelly kid didn't even take a look at the surroundings; still running around like it's flat ground; his courage is too big.
After a round of lecturing, her gaze finally landed on the small basket in his hand, instantly recognizing it as indeed her daughter's.
It even had the wide straps she had specially sewn to prevent them from digging into her daughter's shoulders. Seeing this basket, she couldn't help but recall what happened to her daughter that day, still feeling a rush of fear.
"Sister, rest assured, I'll help avenge you." Little Four, having shrugged off mom's threats, quietly approached close to his sister and whispered.
Hua Xiaocao he may not be able to beat, but Hua Xiaocao's brother certainly isn't his match.
"You're such a good little brother, but there's no need; your sister will handle her own matters. You just behave yourself so mom and dad don't spank you,"
Jin'er glanced at her brother's backside, having been spanked just days earlier for leading other village kids into a fight, which he had obviously forgotten about. As his elder sister, she felt obliged to help her little brother remember.
"Sister..." Little Four looked accusingly at his sister, but before he could say more, he was distracted by a rabbit suddenly appearing in front of him.
"Rabbit!" Little Four, filled with excitement, momentarily forgot what he wanted to say and chased after the rabbit, Jin'er's eyes lighting up too.
Though their family was slightly better off in the village, they still were reluctant to eat meat. This rabbit was big enough for their family to have a meal, making both siblings excited.
Jin'er moved quickly, pouring the wild wood ear mushrooms out of her basket into her mom's basket and then grabbing her own small basket to help her brother encircle the rabbit.
The rabbit just wanted to get some fresh air, but unexpectedly, as soon as it emerged, it got spotted, getting so scared it tried to dart back into the rabbit hole, only to run straight into Jin'er's basket which accurately anticipated its path, getting trapped inside.
Seeing this, Little Four shouted excitedly.
"Wow... Sister, you're amazing, Mom, Grandma, come look."
"I see, be careful not to bump into your sister," Qi Shi said nervously as she watched her son's excited demeanor.
At the same time, Little Four's shout attracted others over, who looked at Qi Shi with envy.
Such a big fat rabbit, eating it sparingly could last several days. Such good luck.
Jin'er quickly braided together a few vine straws to tie the rabbit's hind legs together.
"Jin'er is really capable," Liu Shi remarked while eyeing the fat rabbit on the ground, wishing she could lift it to see how heavy it was, but it was just envy; no other thoughts crossed her mind since the siblings caught it fair and square.
"Not really," Jin'er smiled shyly. With a loving family, she had no desire to be capable in this life.
"Exactly, just like two kids stumbling upon a dead rat by chance," Qi Shi was pleased, but she couldn't say it like that, though she really believed it.

Rabbits are notoriously difficult to catch; without sheer luck, one can't easily catch them.
"Just bask in your joy," Liu Shi scoffed at Qi Shi, her gaze involuntarily drawn to the rabbit hole there.
It was just dug up by Jin'er and Little Four following the trail of footprints.
Thinking perhaps another rabbit might come out?
Liu Shi wasn't the only one with this thought. Hua Xiaomao and a few young women, along with several women who hadn't left, had the same idea.
Life was hard, who wouldn't want to catch a rabbit to improve their lives a bit?
Almost as if with tacit understanding, they all moved towards the rabbit hole, even Little Four, who had just caught a rabbit with his sister.
Jin'er handed over the rabbit to her grandma and quickly followed along too.
