Chapter 758: Max’s intention to call them all
’Time to kill all the Ascendants in this battlefield.’ The thought blazed like molten steel in Max’s mind, his eyes sharpening with a ferocious gleam that seemed to cut through the swirling blood mist and chaos around him.
With his strength now at the Fourth Level of Master Rank, the energy boiling in his veins made him feel like a caged dragon finally unfurling its wings, and he was ready to tear this battlefield apart, piece by bloody piece.
Without hesitation, he raised his right arm high above his head, fingers outstretched, black scales glinting in his skin. Brilliant golden light flared at his palm, condensing rapidly into three gleaming swords of pure luminance.
Each sword hummed with lethal intent, edges crackling with threads of violent energy as they pulsed with the potent resonance of his Level 2 Concept of Severing Sword. The blades hovered in the air, slowly rotating around him like the celestial rings of a radiant sun, casting golden reflections across the shredded battlefield.
In the same heartbeat, his body blurred into motion. Blue lightning erupted around him with a fierce crackle, bolts whipping across his scales like snapping serpents as he vanished in a streak of blinding speed.
The ground beneath where he’d stood exploded outward in a shockwave of shattered stone and blood-splattered dirt as he rocketed forward.
He materialized a heartbeat later directly beside Karl, whose own body was wreathed in black flames as he struggled desperately against a monstrous Ascendant towering over him. The Ascendant’s claws were inches from Karl’s fist, dark energy swirling around its limbs, its faceless visage twisted with monstrous glee at the prospect of the kill.
Before either Karl or the Ascendant could react, one of Max’s golden swords detached from its orbit and screamed forward with surgical precision, a flash of blazing gold that cleaved the very air apart. The blade’s trajectory was swift, silent, and unstoppable.
Shick!
The golden sword sliced cleanly through the Ascendant’s thick, void-forged neck. For a fraction of a breath, the creature’s massive body remained eerily still, black void flames sputtering around the edges of its wound.
Then its head toppled from its shoulders, black ichor spraying upward like a dark fountain as the severed skull fell and crashed into the ground with a wet, final thud. The creature’s colossal body followed an instant later, collapsing into the scorched soil with an echoing crash that rattled the earth.
Karl stood frozen, eyes wide, black flames quivering around his trembling frame. His chest rose and fell as he stared down at the twitching corpse of the Ascendant. His throat bobbed as he swallowed, struggling to process what had just happened. He glanced sideways at Max, whose expression remained a mask of steely calm, the remaining golden swords still revolving around him like loyal sentinels.
’Light energy?’ Karl thought, confusion and wariness twisting his features. ’Is he really someone from the Black Lotus Guild?’ Doubt coiled tighter around his heart as he replayed the scene in his mind—the effortless execution, the blazing divine light, the calm precision.
No matter how he tried, he couldn’t reconcile that divine brilliance with the shadowy, poisonous arts of his own guild.
’More.’ Max thought.
He shot forward in another lightning streak, the jagged bolts trailing behind him like the tail of a celestial comet. His golden swords spun around him with an almost sentient precision, glinting like suns in orbit, each one humming with the lethal resonance of his Level 2 Concept of Severing Sword.
In the blink of an eye, he appeared beside a towering Ascendant locked in brutal combat with a human warrior whose armor was cracked and splattered with blood, his eyes wide with panic as the Ascendant’s claw slashed toward his throat.
Before that fatal strike could land, Max’s hand shot forward, fingers gripping the hilt of one of the golden swords now burning so fiercely that its edges glowed like molten gold.
With a short, sharp thrust, Max drove the golden sword straight into the Ascendant’s chest. The sword met monstrous flesh and void-forged bone with a high, singing shriek, plunging through the creature’s black armor as though it were paper.
The Ascendant let out a strangled roar, molten void blood erupting from its chest in a pulsing jet. Before it could even react, one of the two golden swords still floating around Max’s shoulders darted forward in a blinding flash, slicing across the Ascendant’s thick, featureless neck.
The creature’s head flipped backward, severed so cleanly that the wound barely bled before black flames hissed and sputtered out. Its colossal body wavered and then collapsed like a mountain crumbling into rubble, the ground trembling under the impact.
The human warrior staggered back, eyes round, too stunned even to speak as Max was gone again in the next heartbeat—a streak of lightning vanishing into the swirling darkness.
Max reappeared ten paces away, where another Ascendant loomed over two Champion Rank experts who were desperately fending off the monster’s relentless assault. Void energy whirled around the Ascendant’s limbs as it smashed down its fists like black meteor hammers, each blow shaking the ground and blasting craters in the stone.
Max lunged forward without a shred of hesitation, his sword slashing upward in a luminous arc. A single cut severed both of the Ascendant’s massive arms at the elbows, black ichor spraying in steaming arcs as the creature let out a guttural scream.
One of Max’s floating golden swords spiraled down like a falling star, slicing a deep groove through the Ascendant’s chest, splitting its ribcage apart with a burst of golden light. The Ascendant staggered backward, choking on void energy bubbling up its throat, and Max followed through with a horizontal slash that carved clean through its neck.
The creature’s monstrous head tumbled free, eyes already fading to glassy darkness as it hit the dirt with a sickening thud. The remains toppled backward, shaking the ground with a final shudder.
The two Champion Rank experts who’d been seconds from death could only stare, sweat and blood streaking their faces, as Max turned away without even acknowledging them, lightning gathering around his feet once more.
