Chapter 548: Chapter 548: Fox on a Rampage

Luo’s maneuvers were dazzling, with a swarm of mechanical appendages behind him performing complex tasks that seemed to require several people to complete. Erin stared wide-eyed from behind but still couldn’t comprehend, and after a long pause, she blurted out, "Are all those mechanical arms really just for screwing in screws?"

Having fought "side by side" along the way, Luo had gotten used to this puppet’s lack of manners, so he was too lazy to respond and just continued with his work.

But Erin couldn’t sit still. Seeing the golden-haired Elf in front of her not responding, her eyes darted around and she came up with a new question, "By the way, is it really necessary to cram your home full of self-destruct bombs, with a string of backups as well... If something like a Dark Angel incident actually happens, those bombs seem useless?"

"Those bombs aren’t meant for blowing up Dark Angels; as long as they can blow us up, they are enough — though it’s better not to if possible," Luo replied without turning his head, "It’s a necessary safety measure..."

"Why?" Erin blinked her eyes.

"Why what?"

"It’s so dangerous, why bother? I heard you guys study a bunch of weird stuff, with Subspace and Black Spirit Ability; the pioneer lab blows up twice a year, not only disregarding others’ lives but not caring much about your own lives either..."

Luo was silent for a moment, with some doubts in his heart — for some reason, although the red-eyed dwarf behind him was always rude, causing trouble along the way, and chattering noisily, at this moment... he couldn’t resist the urge to answer her question.

"Because of curiosity." The Elf finally broke the silence.

Erin: "Huh?"

"Curiosity. I’m very curious about the world we live in — the secrets left by the Ancient Saints, the broken history and old technologies of various races, the stories of the Deep Sea Era, things beyond our world; all that is beyond our vision, unknown, and I want to see them, it’s as simple as that. Of course, that’s just me; my ’colleagues’... may have more complex attitudes towards this world."

Erin stared for a while, drawing out her words: "Wow——"

"Don’t you have any curiosity?" Luo finally slightly turned his head, but his hands remained busy.

Erin thought carefully, and suddenly her face lit up: "Yes, there is! Yu Sheng has a folder on his computer he never lets me see, and he even put a password on it. I asked C-Type to help me crack it, but she always says she’s too busy. I’m super curious..."

Luo pondered, rubbing his chin: "That really does sound intriguing... perhaps it’s important research data or something? I can help you later..."

But before she finished speaking, she heard a beast-like "wuu-aaarrr" growl next to her. Raising her head, she saw Hu Li glaring angrily and threateningly at her, the demon fox girl baring her sharp teeth, her tail flickering with flames, "The Savior’s things are off-limits to outsiders!"

"Yes, that’s also an issue," Erin glanced at Hu Li, "That silly fox guards Yu Sheng’s things so tightly, she might really kill you."

Luo shuddered all over and continued muttering as she turned back to her work, "What a bunch of nutcases..."

Erin, however, didn’t react to this sentence — normally, she would have ten retorts ready, but at this moment, she suddenly tilted her head, a faint look of confusion and hesitation appearing in her eyes.

She watched Luo’s busy silhouette, blinking her eyes, only to see that figure transform into an unfamiliar and blurry outline — one that reverently bowed to the ground like a devout Believer, surrounded by many equally indistinct shadows, as if speaking to her.

She blinked again, seeing a Tower floating in the depths of the void. She was crouching on top of that Tower, surrounded by all sorts of bizarre shadows, confiding matters to her.

Erin raised her head in bewilderment.

Lofty divine temple pillars encircled the area, high walls and banners etched with web-like reliefs and patterns. An unknown voice permeated through, hoarse and low: "Lord, the Universe is running out of mass..."

Erin shook her head vigorously, her vision extending beyond the divine temple’s Door-opening, spotting a figure standing at the entrance, grasping her hand, filled with indignation, the voice particularly familiar: "We’ve come this far, how come..."

Erin froze for a moment, then suddenly burst into laughter: "Oh, Yu Sheng..."

"Done!" Luo’s relieved voice came from the side, "The last one! Once we dismantle this, we won’t have to worry about the Big Shield being blown up..."

"Great, then we should go find Yu Sheng!" Erin enthusiastically wriggled half of her body out of Hu Li’s embrace, pointing in a certain direction, "We’ve got to go this way!"

"Huh?" Luo was momentarily stunned, "Weren’t we supposed to retreat after dismantling the Space Station’s self-destruct devices? You mentioned Hunter could open his own Door back home..."

"But plans changed, Yu Sheng is nearby," Erin unceremoniously interrupted Luo, "We’re going to find him next."

Hu Li and Luna nodded in agreement; at least on this matter, they quickly reached a consensus with the noisy Erin.

Luo’s expression was a mix of subtlety and conflict. She glanced around at the severely damaged Space Station, its interior entirely unfit for ordinary people, keen to leave this danger-prone place, but after several seconds of hesitation, she gritted her teeth decisively, "Alright, I’ll go with you..."

But to her surprise, Erin tilted her head and said, "Why are you coming along?"

The little puppet spoke, pointing to herself and the nearby Luna and Hu Li: "I have a bunch of backup bodies. If Type C gets hurt, there’s some sort of recall skill that automatically transports her back into that iron coffin. And she’s pretty tough anyway. Plus, this one here, Yu Sheng was afraid this silly fox would get stuck somewhere and couldn’t return home, so he put over two hundred Teleportation Gate cards and several Pre-made Doors in her tail. The three of us can just turn around and go home when we encounter danger—why are you eager to tag along?"

Hu Li nodded vigorously as she listened, kindly reminding Luo: "If you die, you’re really dead..."

Luo opened her eyes wide, wanting to say something, but before she could open her mouth, she saw a few mass-produced Erins clutching onto Hu Li’s tail jump to the ground. One of them walked over to her, waved, and directly opened up a Space Rift out of thin air. As the space twisted dizzyingly, the puppet’s body quickly reassembled, astonishingly transforming into a slightly trembling door in the blink of an eye.

Luo looked on, dumbfounded, instinctively opening her mouth: "Wait, wait..."

Before she finished speaking, Erin waved her hand dismissively: "Wait for what? The time for a mass-produced machine to open a door is very short—"

As she spoke, a few mass-produced puppets ran behind Luo and in a few quick strides, jumped up all at once, delivering several kicks straight to the elf.

"In you go!"

Luo let out a sharp scream instantly: "Wait, this thing doesn’t look very stable, damn you..."

And then she was beaten into the Teleportation Gate by the puppets’ hands and feet.

Erin lay in Hu Li’s arms, clapping her hands with a satisfied smile on her face.

"Going to find the Lord?" Luna stammered slightly from the side.

"Is our Savior at the Space Station?" Hu Li looked in puzzlement at the direction Erin had pointed to earlier, her big ears twitching around, "My Divine Sense didn’t find him."

"I can’t explain it clearly, but he was just here, suddenly appearing out of nowhere, maybe in the direction of the laboratory," Erin said hurriedly, waving her hand and wriggling restlessly in Hu Li’s arms, "He might need help. We have to hurry over..."

The little puppet suddenly paused, raising her head hesitantly: "Silly fox, do you still remember the way?"

"Not at all, I didn’t memorize it."

Erin was dumbfounded: "Hey, no! Isn’t your nose always sharp? Isn’t finding the way your strong suit?"

"But the path kept collapsing as we walked," Hu Li said helplessly, "And there’s exhaust all around here, smelling foul. I haven’t breathed for half an hour..."

"You’re letting us down at a critical time..." Erin was nearly in tears, "I should have kept that pointy-eared girl! She would definitely know another way!"

Hu Li’s eyes suddenly sparkled: "Actually, it’s not a big problem."

Erin: "Huh, what do you mean?"

Then the little puppet saw Hu Li, holding her, verify the general direction of the laboratory while bowing her head slightly: "Erin, are you sure it’s this way?"

"Yes, this way, but wait, silly fox, what are you doing?"

Hu Li bent down, lowered her head, took a slight backward step to prepare to dash.

Erin finally screamed: "You big silly fox, what exactly are you going to do—"

"Boom!"

The explosive roar of the Fox Fire interrupted the puppet’s remaining words as the demon fox girl launched a fiery headbutt, crashing through the nearest wall and charging straight toward the laboratory. A series of explosive roars and the ear-splitting noise of metal tearing followed, accompanied by blazing flames lighting up the sky, intermixed only with the puppet’s almost inaudible shrieks:

"Oh gosh, put me down first... Oh crap... Oh crap, that’s a big beam... I want to go home! I’m not playing... Ah, big silly fox—"

Luna stood in place, watching Hu Li crash through walls one after another, trying hard to speak but unable to utter a word. Raising her hand several times, she finally stammered out a few words: "I, I actually, have, have a pathfinding... forget it."

Of course, most internal partitions of the Space Station wouldn’t be particularly strong. After a moment, accompanied by a searing Fox Fire-lit path running from the outer zone straight to the core, the last internal wall was quickly burned and smashed through. Hu Li hunched her head and charged into the laboratory, only to hear Erin shout loudly: "Stop! Stop! Wall! There! Wall—"

In the puppet’s despairing screams, Hu Li headbutted into the massive black wall filling the entire laboratory.

This one didn’t budge.

"Owww..."
