Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau-Chapter 735 - 380: The Rest of Our Lives (First Update)
We saved four million and gained five million more, which rounds up to ten million!
What a valuable birthday celebration!
Lawrence Winters was in a jubilant mood all day.
Her colleagues at the company celebrated her birthday, everyone shared the birthday cake, and she even broke her usual rule and ate a piece with cream.
In a big company, to promote so-called team spirit and a harmonious, friendly atmosphere, the department always funds a birthday cake for everyone to share on each employee’s birthday.
Lawrence, striving to lose weight, generally refrains from eating cake, let alone the creamy parts.
But today she was just too happy and ate it with delight.
Edward Foster joined in the cake eating and advised her afterward, "Tomorrow you can rest at home. My mom will pick you up at four in the afternoon to attend the Sheldon Family Princess’s coming-of-age birthday party together."
Lawrence nodded with a smile, "I thought she’d be abroad attending that famous debutante ball."
As far as she knew, it was currently a badge of honor for wealthy girls worldwide to participate in this debutante ball.
Edward shrugged, "Lady Situ originally planned to send her daughter, but Mr. Sheldon didn’t like that international debutante ball, saying the crowd there was too mixed to be worthy of his pure and untouched little princess."
"So they let the Princess choose for herself. Of course, the Princess chose her dad’s preferred way... Hahaha..."
Lawrence also found it amusing, "That Mr. Sheldon really dotes on his daughter. Still, he didn’t give her company shares, which shows he’s just putting on a show for others. Deep down, he still prefers sons over daughters."
"Hey, that’s not quite right," Edward seemed to disagree with Lawrence’s view.
The two of them were each holding a faux porcelain plate with a gilded edge, containing a greasy cream cake, seated in the company meeting room by the window.
Edward softly explained to Lawrence, "Mr. Sheldon is actually very thoughtful. In families like ours, every descendant has a trust fund from birth. A certain percentage of the family’s business shares is stored in it yearly, available for us to manage once we reach adulthood. The shares can be converted to stock or sold for cash."
"But Mr. Sheldon coddles his daughter so much that he thinks even this might shortchange her..."
Lawrence was puzzled, putting down her plate, wiped the cream from her mouth with a tissue, and curiously asked, "... How is that shortchanging? Isn’t this the best safeguard?"
Edward sneered softly, "What do you think? Stocks can rise or fall unless they are cashed out. If they increase, that’s good news, but what if they drop? Do you know Mr. Sheldon’s slick move?"
Lawrence smiled silently, thinking, I may not know Mr. Sheldon’s clever tricks, but I sure know yours, Edward Foster!
Seeing her smiling yet quiet, Edward felt itchy inside but didn’t dare act out, simply laughing, "Mr. Sheldon, ah, set up a rule for his beloved daughter’s trust fund: each year’s shares are directly converted to cash at market price. So, it’s stored as cash though recorded as stock."
"The next year, it adjusts per market value. If the stock price goes up, the difference is topped up to her trust fund in cash. If it falls, well, that’s just overlooked."
Lawrence’s eyes lit up with surprise, "Isn’t that amazing?! That’s a sure-fire gain with no loss!"
"Exactly, the gains are compensated for, and the losses are ignored. So you see, isn’t it more impressive than just saving stocks directly?"
"From a cash standpoint, that’s true," Lawrence thought for a moment, "But with stocks, aside from cashing out, there’s also company ownership... Without stock, she wouldn’t have ownership of Sheldon Investment, right?"
Edward was dismissive, "Pfft, do you think even if she had ownership, Mr. Sheldon, the overindulgent daughter fan, would let his daughter work hard to manage the company? — He’s determined to let her coast through life."
"Mr. Sheldon wrote it clearly in the trust fund terms: his Princess’s trust fund can be inherited by her children, with the conditions unchanged forever."
"That’s something none of us can achieve."
Lawrence pursed her lips, "That’s ensuring generations eat off Sheldon Investment. After marrying, the Princess won’t carry the Sheldon name. So, her descendants, will the Sheldon family always take care of them?"
