Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau-Chapter 576 - 308: Registering the Marriage (Part 2)
...
Aiden Sheldon put his phone away, switched to a tablet the size of a notebook, and started going through emails and approving documents.
Kenneth Osborne conscientiously avoided looking at Aiden Sheldon’s tablet.
Of course, even if he wanted to look, he wouldn’t be able to see anything.
Aiden Sheldon’s tablet had a privacy screen protector, so only someone directly facing the screen could see its contents.
From other angles, it was just a black screen.
Lawrence Winters didn’t care what Aiden was doing; she just wanted to get to the civil affairs bureau quickly and get their marriage certificate.
She’d had enough of all sorts of disturbances.
Hopefully, grandmaster’s calculations are accurate.
Lawrence put her hands together and bowed several times toward the west.
After getting past the traffic jam, the speed of the traffic increased noticeably.
In no time, they arrived at the gates of the civil affairs bureau.
Lawrence checked her phone; it was only 9:15, still forty-five minutes to go! 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
As soon as the car stopped, Lawrence pulled Kenneth out of the car.
Kenneth tried to bend down to thank Aiden in the car, but Aiden had already gotten out from the other side.
He walked around the back of the car, looking at the entrance of the civil affairs bureau. His face showed no expression, but his slightly trembling hands revealed that he was far from calm inside.
Lawrence, with her sharp eyes, noticed Aiden’s hands but said nothing, smiling as she joined Kenneth to thank Aiden.
Aiden nodded and waved at them before getting back into the car.
The black Rolls Royce Phantom drove away quickly, and Lawrence anxiously dragged Kenneth to take their wedding photo.
For the marriage certificate, it’s best to take the photo at the civil affairs bureau, where it meets the specifications.
There weren’t many people getting married today. They waited ten minutes to get their photo taken.
Then they waited in the civil affairs bureau hall for their number to be called.
This wait took twenty minutes.
At 9:45, their number was finally called.
Kenneth and Lawrence approached the window where the staff, upon seeing them, smiled and said, "Congratulations to you both. You are honestly the most attractive couple I’ve seen registering for marriage all these years."
Gleefully, Lawrence replied, "Sister, you say such nice things. On our happy day, I just love hearing compliments."
The staff member, who was actually in her forties nearing fifty, couldn’t help but feel pleased being called "sister" by such a pretty, lively girl.
Her good mood improved her work efficiency.
With everything completed, Lawrence and Kenneth even received a "priority" pass for their certificate.
By 9:55, they were holding two bright red marriage certificates with embossed seals and ID photos pasted on them.
Each holding their certificate, they asked someone to take a photo for memento.
As they left the civil affairs bureau hand in hand, they discovered their palms were sweaty.
They were equally nervous...
Lawrence marveled, "Grandmaster’s really impressive; how did he calculate such an accurate auspicious time?"
"That’s why he’s the grandmaster, right?" Kenneth teased with a relaxed smile. "Now that we have the marriage certificate, Nora, shouldn’t you move in with me?"
Lawrence pretended to think deeply, musing, "But I can’t bear to part with grandmaster’s cooking... how about this? You can have dinner at my place, then we go to your place together, okay?"
"What’s this ’your place my place’? It’s your home too." Kenneth raised the marriage certificate, "I’ll pay off the mortgage as soon as possible, then we can add your name."
"I’m not too worried about that," Lawrence grinned. "Even if my name’s not there, would you kick me out?"
"Oh, definitely not. If anyone’s getting kicked out, it’s me. I wouldn’t dare cross my little lady," Kenneth kissed her cheek.
Their taxi arrived soon, and they rode back to Lawrence’s neighborhood together.
Today was the first day with their marriage certificate, and Lawrence planned to stay at her family home, moving to Kenneth’s place tomorrow.
Upon arriving home, they saw Gabrielle Winters, Nick Zeller, and the old Daoist sitting in the living room.
Lawrence immediately raised her marriage certificate, exclaiming, "Quick, congratulate me! I got married today! Yay!"
Nick raised his head abruptly, looking displeased and surprised, "You really did it?! Was it before ten?!"
"Look at this, just five minutes to ten, right on time!" Lawrence showed the photo of her and Kenneth holding their marriage certificate to Nick, indicating the photo’s timestamp.
"Hmph! Lucky break!" Nick grumbled, tossing the phone back to Lawrence.
Lawrence asked puzzled, "Uncle, what’s wrong? Why do you seem unhappy?"
The old Daoist chuckled, "Your uncle had a sudden urge to do a divination for himself this morning and found out he would lose money, really upset him..."
Nick’s face darkened more.
Gabrielle quickly changed the subject, clapping her hands with a smile, "That’s great! Let’s go out for dinner to celebrate, how about that?!"
"Sure, sure! Let me think about what to eat!" Lawrence immediately sat beside Gabrielle, pulling her to pick their favorite restaurant.
Kenneth sat next to the old Daoist and smiled, "Thank you, grandmaster. You’re truly prophetic."
The old Daoist glanced at him, smiling warmly, "It’s also your good fortune. Otherwise, it would really be tough to get the marriage certificate at an auspicious time. But since you’ve got it, it proves you’re destined to be together. Cherish it."
From across the room, Lawrence heard this and quickly said, "Grandmaster, you’re spot on! We were stuck in traffic for quite a while before arriving!"
The old Daoist stared at her face for a moment and said, "Your luck today wasn’t supposed to be good; getting the marriage certificate wasn’t going to happen. But you’ve accumulated virtue, receiving the protection from The Three Pure Ones, turning calamity into blessing and getting the certificate."
Lawrence smirked, "Grandmaster, you’re exaggerating! Today, my car even got totaled—where’s the avoidance of disaster or turning danger to safety in that?"
"Car totaled? Which car? Is it the BMW 3 Series I gave you?!" Nick suddenly shouted, slapping his thigh, "I get it now; I wondered why I was losing money! I thought I’d miscalculated!—Turns out it was because of you!"
"Exactly!" Lawrence quickly moved to sit next to Nick, extending her hand, "Uncle, today’s my wedding day, don’t you owe me a gift? How about a sports car?"
