Chapter 487: Chapter 264: I’ve Locked You Up Too (First Update)

Lawrence Winters couldn’t catch Nora at the office, so he had to return to his own.

Just like that, his first day at work was ruined.

He sat in his office for a long time, unable to focus on work, and finally sent an email to Edward Foster, saying he wasn’t feeling well and was going home early.

When Edward saw it, he immediately came to her office and asked with concern, "What’s wrong? Where do you feel unwell? Do you need to see a doctor?"

Lawrence shook his head, looking indeed a bit haggard, and said weakly, "No need for now, I’ll go home and take a nap."

"Alright, I’ll take you back," Edward insisted, "You didn’t drive yourself today, someone else brought you, right?"

In fact, he saw it was Kenneth Osborne who brought Lawrence to work.

Lawrence planned to call a cab, but Edward insisted, so she didn’t refuse further.

At that moment, she didn’t want to face a stranger taxi driver either.

Besides, her house wasn’t far from here.

Edward drove her over, which would probably take just ten to fifteen minutes.

Lawrence sat in Edward’s car, resting with her eyes closed the whole way, not saying a word.

When she got out, she only said "Goodbye" to Edward.

Edward got out of the car too, walked with her to the elevator door, watched her get in, pressed the floor button, and said, "Message me when you get there."

He then returned to his car.

He didn’t get in immediately but leaned against the car door and lit a cigarette.

Amid the swirling smoke, he silently watched the elevator doors, really wanting to follow her and stay with her.

After a few puffs, Lawrence texted him on WeChat: I’m here, thank you Edward.

Edward quickly replied: You’re welcome.

After replying, he finished his cigarette before getting in the car to leave.

As he drove out of the garage, he saw a familiar Tesla coming in from the opposite direction.

Edward felt a spark of competitiveness and honked at the Tesla.

It was Kenneth Osborne’s car.

He was coming back to get some data; he had left in a hurry in the morning and forgot the flash drive containing the data.

He looked instinctually at the sound of the honk and saw it was Lawrence’s boss Edward Foster, sitting in the car, raising his chin at him with an arrogant smile.

Kenneth didn’t acknowledge him and quickly parked the car in the garage, got in the elevator, and only then thought about what Edward was doing there.

When he got to the elevator area, he realized why.

Apparently, Lawrence had come back early. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

He saw her shoes in the elevator area.

They all treated the elevator area like a little room separating the outside and inside.

When they returned, coats, shoes, hats, and umbrellas were placed there.

Kenneth also changed his shoes there and went to check on Lawrence’s room.

She had already changed into casual home clothes, curled up comfortably on the lounge chair sofa.

Kenneth knocked on the door, smiling as he asked, "Nora, why did you come back so early? No work in the afternoon?"

Lawrence was surprised too, "Kenneth, why did you come back as well? I’m just not feeling well and planned to come back for a nap. And you?"

"I left some data at home, just came back to get it," Kenneth said, walking in and carefully observing her complexion.

She looked a bit paler than usual, but her cheeks were redder.

He crouched halfway down by her lounge chair, lifted her chin with a hand, "Are you sick? Your complexion doesn’t look good."

Too pale, with an unusual flush of red.

Lawrence shook her head, "I just want to sleep. A nap will do. You go ahead, don’t mind me."

Kenneth indeed had work waiting for him; he needed to get back to a meeting full of software engineers and mathematicians.

"Alright then." Kenneth stood up, took a few steps towards the door, and suddenly remembered something, "It was Edward who brought you back, right?"

"Yeah, because he’s my boss, and I needed his approval to leave early."

"After I sent the leave email, he came to see me and offered to drive me home."

"I was planning to call a cab anyway, and it wasn’t far, so I agreed." Lawrence looked up at Kenneth, puzzled, "How did you know he brought me back?"

"I ran into him at the garage entrance on my way back," Kenneth said nonchalantly, "Now it seems it wasn’t just a coincidence, but he must have brought you back."

Lawrence checked the time on her phone and said in surprise, "I got back at least twenty minutes ago, and he even stayed in the garage for twenty minutes. Well, he doesn’t seem to care about being on work time... but since he’s the boss, he sets the rules, who’s going to clock him?"
