Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau-Chapter 452 - 247: There Is Always Someone Better
Kenneth Osborne’s company is in the technology park on the Fourth Ring of Capital City, quite far from Lawrence Winters’ current apartment on the Third Ring.
But it’s convenient for him to drive to and from work himself. He usually leaves early and comes back late, missing the rush hour, so he never gets stuck in traffic.
Most of the time, it only takes him half an hour to get home.
The next day was New Year’s Eve, and the streets of Capital City were almost empty. He drove quickly and reached the company in just twenty minutes.
Lawrence Winters got up in the morning, had breakfast, and found himself with nothing to do at home.
The old Daoist was busy drawing good luck talismans for his VIP clients, while Nick Zeller and Gabrielle Winters were preparing for the New Year’s Eve dinner.
Of course, once everything was ready, the old Daoist was still the one to cook.
For the old Daoist, cooking was an enjoyment, not a chore he had to do every day.
If you didn’t let him cook, he’d get upset.
Every corner of the apartment was cleaned by professional cleaners, leaving Lawrence with nothing to do.
She wandered around the balcony a few times, saw the weather was excellent, and there was hardly any traffic on the road, which suddenly gave her an idea.
She ran to the kitchen and pleaded with Nick Zeller, "Uncle, can I borrow your car for a drive? I’ve been eyeing your Grand Cherokee for a long time."
Nick Zeller laughed and said, "You want to drive to Kenneth’s company, right?"
"Wow! Uncle, you even know this?! You’re truly the Iron Mouth God Calculation!" Lawrence exaggeratedly gave Nick Zeller a thumbs up.
Nick spat, but still handed her the car keys, "Go on, drive slowly. It’s better to be honked at than to drive fast."
"Got it!" Lawrence happily waved the car keys and hummed a tune as she went to the elevator.
The elevator went straight down to the underground parking lot. She got out of the elevator, found Nick Zeller’s Grand Cherokee, and excitedly got in and started the car.
She had gotten her driver’s license early and often drove when with Nick Zeller.
Her driving skills were exceptionally good, not like most young girls.
Just like those seasoned drivers who had been practicing for years, and once she even raced someone so fiercely that a professional racer couldn’t beat her.
However, because of that race, she almost scared Nick Zeller into having a heart attack.
Since then, he had been trying to prevent her from driving whenever he could.
Now that she was working, it was either Nick Zeller or Kenneth Osborne picking her up and dropping her off.
Lawrence always lamented about not having the chance to use her skills. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Today, finally getting a chance, she was determined to drive to her heart’s content.
But this wasn’t an ungoverned race track, so she couldn’t speed, thus she could only showcase her driving skills on the short stretch of highway.
She suddenly accelerated aggressively with a deep press on the gas pedal, then braked hard to decelerate wildly, took big turns without slowing down, the tires almost sparking on the ground.
Then when there was no traffic, she performed a seemingly out-of-control, on-the-spot, 360-degree drift, having tremendous fun.
...
Ryan Sheldon had been studying abroad since he was a teenager and hadn’t returned for over a decade.
He was reluctantly called back by his parents to celebrate the New Year.
He procrastinated until the very last day before taking a flight back to the country.
Upon arrival at the airport, he picked up the car he rented and headed towards the Second Ring of Capital City.
Luckily, it was New Year’s Eve, and there were almost no other cars on the highway entering the city.
He hadn’t been back in over ten years and was unfamiliar with the roads. While on the phone with his family, he mistakenly entered the wrong highway entry.
When he realized, he found out he was heading towards the Fourth Ring instead of the Second.
Just as he was looking for the next exit to change routes, a Grand Cherokee whizzed past him, then performed a death-defying drift on the empty highway ahead!
Ryan Sheldon was wide-eyed!
This driver was something else!
To drive a cumbersome vehicle like the Cherokee with the finesse of a Ferrari race car!
No way!
He had to... have a showdown with such a skilled driver!
Ryan Sheldon had been a professional racer abroad.
Unfortunately, he had no innate talent for it, purely a rich kid’s hobby of car racing, with the resources to hire coaches and modify cars, allowing him to achieve mediocrity.
However, Ryan Sheldon refused to admit he had no talent.
His favorite saying was, "Diligence can make up for lack of talent."
And he did train exceptionally hard, having already won a Grand Prix in a World Formula One race.
