Chapter 89: Miracle

If Mana Crystals had no effect on Flain, it would be much worse because Flain would lose a big bonus from the Academy.

’Do Mana Crystals and mana density affect gaining EXP through training?’ Flain asked the system.

[Tip: Yes.]

It was quite a brief answer, but Flain was fine with it—no detailed explanation was necessary.

"Wait, I just realized that if we want to attack the Empire of Light, we’ll have to defeat a monster like Gown Wigrem," murmured Itai, pulling Flain out of his thoughts.

Flor’s smile disappeared. "I told you it’s forbidden to talk about such things in public," said Flor in a neutral tone.

Itai was, of course, startled by Flor—he was used to his identical expression and tone. "Sorry Flor, I forgot. I swear I won’t forget again," he said nervously and stepped a bit back.

"Remember it well. You know it’s crucial for our plan that no one unsuitable learns about it," said Flor, and his smile returned to his face.

The three of them were completely alone in the hall. "Let’s go, or the most suitable rooms will be taken," said Flor.

They made their way through the academy until they encountered a group of students, whom they followed and eventually arrived at the center of the academy, where all the other students were already gathered.

In front of them stood an old man with gray hair and a short gray beard. "Looks like most have already arrived. Whoever didn’t show up—too bad. The True Oak Competition begins now," he said.

All the students standing there disappeared from the academy.

Flain opened his eyes and found himself somewhere in a sunny meadow surrounded by forest. Beside him stood the other students, and in front of him stood the old man.

Every student, including the old man, held a large obsidian crystal orb in their hand—dark purple, with red lights flickering inside that looked like sparks.

"This sealed orb is designed to open only through precise resonance. The goal is to send a single, pure, stable thread from your own mana that will open the orb and form your active axis. I will demonstrate how you should do it," said the old man.

He clenched the fist holding the orb, then focused on his internal mana frequency. Then, from his chest, he drew a stream of blue mana with his fingers. It was perfect—there was no distortion, trembling, or excess speed.

Then, using his fingers, he pushed the mana stream into the orb. It took about 20 seconds. After 20 seconds, the orb trembled and released sparks, which triggered a small glow.

"The pulse must be pure—it must not shake, break, or be too fast or too slow. If the orb senses that the pulse is too impure, it will automatically paralyze you for 5 seconds. The purity of the mana and the time of completion from the moment I say ’start’ will be evaluated. When everything is calculated, you’ll receive your final score and we’ll proceed to round 2," said the old man.

The students were quiet for a moment. "And how the hell am I supposed to do that?" said one from the crowd. freewebnøvel_com

"Focus on your mana and imagine that you’re creating a mana pulse from your body, then you need a high level of concentration," said the old man.

When Flain heard this, he was immediately pleased. When he created a spell, he had to learn extreme levels of focus, so if concentration was the main factor here, it shouldn’t be a problem.

"Start," said the old man.

Everyone began to concentrate and mimic the old man’s movements. Unfortunately, from their chests into their fingers, they could only draw faint flickers.

After a while, one student managed to create a small pulse in his fingers, but he was immediately paralyzed by the orb because he twitched slightly in surprise.

That motivated the others, and mana pulses began appearing in many fingers, including Flain’s.

Flain channeled the pulse into the orb with the same focus as if he were crafting a spell. Honestly, it was intense, but to Flain, it was nothing compared to spell crafting.

After a while, Flain’s orb trembled and released sparks, which triggered a faint glow. The old man’s eyes widened on his thoughtful face.

"25 seconds," the old man murmured.

All the students stared at Flain in disbelief—he was only five seconds slower than the old man, who was a teacher at the academy.

"Please step aside. The second round will begin when everyone finishes the first," the old man said.

Naturally, this drew a lot of attention to Flain, and he was well aware of it. But he decided to take the risk because he wanted the best room.

Two minutes passed, and no one else had broken the orb’s seal—until Flor did. Flor stepped out of the line and stood beside Flain. He just stood there silently with a smile.

For a long time, no one moved forward. The students were trying their best, but many still received shocks. After five minutes, another person stepped out of the line—it was a beautiful girl with long white hair and red eyes, the daughter of Duke Woldern, Lia Woldern.

She came closer to Flain. "How the hell did you manage to do that in 25 seconds?" she murmured.

"I don’t know, maybe a miracle happened," Flain said with a smirk.

Another person stepped out of the crowd after a minute—a tall young man with light brown hair and clear blue eyes. "The son of the Archpriest, Akio Keshiru," Flor murmured to Flain.

He stood behind the others, a thoughtful look on his face. The next one stepped out after three minutes—a blond guy with radiant iron-colored eyes. He was the other son of the Archpriest, Rey Zveroi. He came directly up to Flor.

"Congratulations, excellent performance. May I ask your name?" he asked.

"Eran Girflodor," Flain said briefly.

"Alright, Eran, congratulations once again," said Rey, extending his hand for a handshake.

"Sorry, Rey, but that’s not exactly hygienic," Flain excused himself.

"Alright," Rey nodded and moved on to Flor.

"Flor, you also had a great performance. Honestly, I envy you. Two and a half minutes compared to my thirteen—that’s gold," said Rey.

"Not worth mentioning," Flor said with a smile.

Another girl stepped out from the line. She had blonde hair down her shoulders and dark red eyes. She headed straight toward Flain...
