Chapter 55: Adventurer Morborn

His idea was simple: just ask a group of adventurers where they’re heading, and if they’re going to a dungeon, follow them.

Itai approached a group that looked like beginners, with a mix of stage 1 and 2 members. They mentioned they were heading to a nearby dungeon, which was perfect. Itai made up a story about being adventurers too, saying they had lost their map and couldn’t remember where the dungeon was, then asked if they could go with them.

The group consisted of four people. The first was a tall man in light iron armor, with red hair, who gave off the impression of being the leader when talking to Itai. Next was a young woman with a bow, followed by a large man in heavy armor, and finally a man in...

"Hmm, sure, we’re not planning to go too deep anyway. By the way, what are your names and what classes do you have? I’m guessing the big guy with you is a tank, and since you don’t have any weapons except for that expensive-looking glove, do you fight with your fists using only one hand, or are you a supporter?" the leader asked.

There are six classes: swordsman, tank, archer, rogue, supporter, and mage. Mages are quite rare among adventurers because spells are very hard to obtain. Supporters also use spells, but a special type of support spell that the Adventurers’ Guild provides cheaply and accessibly, significantly reducing the mortality rate of adventurers.

A supporter and a tank are the foundation of every adventurer group.

Itai knew about the classes since, as a bartender, he had learned a lot from the many adventurers who frequented the bar.

"I’m Itai, and this is Zheren. You’re right, Zheren is a tank, but I’m not an adventurer yet. I’m just learning from my friend Zheren," Itai replied.

"You’re already Pioneer stage 1. You could easily become an adventurer," the leader said.

"Anyway, I’m Cedric, the leader and also a swordsman. I’m the only stage 2 in the team. The big guy here is Uger, our tank, then we have my girlfriend Folwe, and the supporter Drah," Cedric said, shaking Itai’s hand.

They then started walking through the city. "By the way, I haven’t seen Zheren around the Adventurer’s Guild in the Imperial City before," Cedric said to Zheren.

"Well, Zheren doesn’t like to talk much," Itai said with a laugh.

"Sounds just like our Uger. He’s also a tank, big, though not as big as Zheren, and he doesn’t really talk either," Folwe sighed.

As they walked through the city and into the forest, they continued talking. Cedric was an extrovert who liked discussing all sorts of topics. Folwe was rather sarcastic and a bit prickly. Uger didn’t talk at all. Drah didn’t speak much either, but when he did, he was very serious and had no sense of humor.

They passed through the forest and then walked for three more hours before arriving at the large entrance of a cave. Around the cave entrance were numerous tents, with adventurers bustling about.

The stalls sold various items: swords, armor, refreshments, dungeon maps, and even torture tools.

Cedric was greeting the adventurers around.

"Cedric, it looks like you’re bringing some new faces with you," said one adventurer.

"I expected the big guy to be at a higher stage," said another.

"Hmph, these people are annoying," mumbled Flowe.

"You’ve got no right to talk, you’re just stage 1," one of the adventurers laughed at her.

Flowe was about to start arguing with the adventurer, but Drah quickly stopped them.

"Shut up," whispered Drah.

The adventurers suddenly moved to the sides, leaving a large space in front of the dungeon entrance. Cedric told Itai and Zheren to step aside because someone important was probably coming.

Suddenly, a group of seven people dressed in majestic golden armor emerged from the dungeon. At the front was a tall young man with white hair. As he stepped out, all the adventurers knelt down.

"Hey, if you don’t want every adventurer to hate you, kneel too," Cedric hissed at the two, while he also knelt just to be safe.

The man walked along the path, his silver eyes fixed straight ahead. As he passed by Itai, his gaze briefly shifted toward him.

"You have unusual magic energy," he murmured before continuing on his way.

When he disappeared from sight, the adventurers stood up again, and various whispers started spreading. Many adventurers were looking at Itai.

"That was one of the strongest adventurers in the Empire of Light," the crowd whispered.

"That was Morborn," whispered some.

"Morborn, stage 7," others whispered.

"And who’s that weakling that Morborn noticed?" murmured others.

"Who was that, and why did everyone bow to him?" Itai muttered.

"That was Morborn, one of the strongest adventurers in the Empire. The reason why all adventurers bow to him is a form of protest against the oppression of adventurers. And for some reason, he complimented you," Cedric explained.

"Sorry, but I don’t understand," Itai said with an uneasy grin.

"What’s so hard to understand, you airhead?" Flowe chimed in.

When Zheren heard this, he didn’t like her insulting his master, and Itai could feel that Zheren would have preferred to charge at her, but he stopped him mentally.

"Hey, calm down, big guy. It was just a joke," Flowe said when she saw Zheren giving her a nasty look.

"Stop ruining relationships with other adventurers," Drah spoke up.

"Alright, let me explain it already," Cedric said.

"So, the Empire of Light oppresses adventurers because they’re warriors on their territory who aren’t under their control. If the Administrator didn’t have a good relationship with the President of the Adventurers’ Guild, it would be even worse. There aren’t many adventurers at high stages in the Empire of Light, and I’ll tell you why.

The first reason is that adventurers have a bad reputation in the Empire of Light, and most people who want to become warriors choose the army instead. The Empire of Light grants noble titles when you reach stage 6. They’ll give it to you practically under any conditions if you have a high enough stage, but not if you’re an adventurer. That’s why most high-stage adventurers give up their adventurer status. The reason we bow to him is that if he were a nobleman by their standards, we would have to bow anyway, but he’s like a nobleman to us," Cedric explained.

"Hmm, is being a noble really that good?" Itai asked after a while.

"There are different types of nobility, but I’ve heard that just being one gives you massive advantages over others. Alright, let’s finally get into that dungeon," Cedric said...
