Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 112: Nyvar Kalledes
Chapter 112: Nyvar Kalledes
"Your resistance is not proof of weakness," he spoke slowly. "It is proof that your mind is a slave. And a slave will never willingly accept emptiness. That is the foundation of Iron Will — to accept the existence of emptiness. Once you manage to accept emptiness, your willpower will be on a completely different level than it is now."
From his voice radiated the sense that nothing in this space was more important than the very absence of stimuli.
Then he took the white stone ring and placed it on his index finger. When he put it on, tense black veins appeared on his finger.
Meanwhile, the students had already started to recover from the black powder, and most of them were nearly back to their senses.
"Now I will introduce you to something that we will train for a very long time before you get used to it. Emptiness in spatial form," said Kaivalyar.
Then he began pointing gradually at each student with the finger that had the ring. The black veins on that finger swirled as he pointed at the students one by one.
The students he pointed at had their heads bowed and looked as if they weren’t perceiving anything. Eventually, it was Flain’s turn, and Kaivalyar pointed at him as well.
Flain’s eyes closed, and his mind shifted away from his body. Flain found himself in an endless dark space. From the void, black slimes attacked his mind, but Flain’s mind effortlessly cut through them like a knife through butter.
The last slime arrived, and its body was literally sliced apart by Flain’s mind — Flain didn’t even need to do anything. He opened his eyes and looked around. All the students were opening their eyes. Some were sweaty, some red, but most of them were gasping for air. Flain didn’t understand why.
"This is training of your mind through emptiness — one of many ways to train the mind. In future lectures, we will focus on getting your mind at least somewhat trained so it is more resilient and stronger. Then we’ll move on to other types of training," said Kaivalyar monotonously and rubbed his eyes.
"Today’s lecture is over, you may leave," Kaivalyar added.
The students began leaving the classroom. Flain decided that he wouldn’t attend Iron Will either — his mind was good enough, and thanks to Spell Master, it would only get better. So his own training would be more beneficial.
The next subject would be Steel Strength, which Flain was particularly interested in because it should focus on combat and techniques — something that immediately caught his attention.
Even though he couldn’t use his full strength openly to avoid attention, that was only for this week. Training against people was also far more advantageous than training against stimuli, which Flain practiced. Learning new techniques also interested him quite a bit since he only had one that he actively used.
Flain and Itai were walking through the academy, talking. Flor was talking to someone else this time since he couldn’t always be near them.
After a while, 20 minutes passed — it was time for Steel Strength.
The students began gathering and searching for the Steel Strength class. Eventually, someone found out it would be taught in the garden.
Everyone rushed into the garden, except for the mage students, and sat down on benches that had already been prepared. The students watched tensely, subconsciously hoping they’d get a good professor, because this subject was particularly important for all non-mages.
Near Flain sat Lia herself, who had a bored expression and was staring ahead. Flain was already looking forward to beating Flor and then fighting her.
Footsteps echoed, drawing the students’ attention — their professor was arriving. He was a man who stood at 165 cm, with an athletic build — not muscular at all, but rather graceful and flexible. He had long, pale blue hair that seemed to resemble the shimmer of moonlight on the surface of the sea. He wore a soft dark blue cloak made of hydrogen-fiber fabric, and beneath it, a tight-fitting suit made of durable cloth with visibly carved runes to enhance reflexes and immense strength. His rapier jingled in its sheath at his belt.
He stood in front of the students and gazed at them for a moment with his blue-green eyes. "Hello, I’m Nyvar Kalledes, your Steel Strength teacher. Before we begin, if my appearance seemed strange to you — I have traces of sea elf blood in me," he said in a tired, bored tone.
This unpleasantly surprised many students — this man didn’t look at all like someone who should be teaching a subject called Steel Strength, and on top of that, he was a mixed-blood.
Of course, if you’re mostly human, you can be legally accepted in the Empire of Light, but still, the nobility despised such people.
"Before anything else, at the start, I want to explain to you the differences between a technique and a spell, because they’re quite fundamental and many Enlightened don’t know them," said Nyvar and yawned.
"The biggest difference is that techniques are much easier to create than spells, which is why there are many more techniques. If you gain enough experience, even you will be able to create your own technique. In the Empire of Light, only four people can create spells. Techniques, unlike spells, do not release mana out of the body, but instead use it within the body or weapon to grant it the specific effects the technique is meant to provide. And most importantly — which most of you should already know — techniques do not draw mana, but Existential Tension." Nyvar finished explaining.
Most of the students still looked down on him and couldn’t understand how someone with mixed blood had managed to become a teacher — and even in such an important position. Sure, he might have some knowledge, but that proves nothing yet.
Nyvar Kalledes slowly turned around and slightly lowered his head. A gentle breeze blew from the pond behind the garden, rustling the cloak made of light hydrogen-fiber fabric. In his blue-green eyes shone an effortless authority — he didn’t demand respect through fear, but rather through strength. There was a trace of enormous power in his eyes that clearly glowed...
