Demon Tamer's Ascension-Chapter 33: The Royal District
January 4th, 10:00 AM.
The sun’s illumination outside was wonderful, its heat pouring through the train windows.
A couple of weeks had passed, and Alex had continued to raise his stats, gather more items into his inventory, and deepen his bond with Adoff.
"Next stop! The Royal District!"
The voice echoed from above through the train’s speakers.
All the eager individuals on board shifted nervously, preparing for what could be the biggest moment of their lives.
The trials for Nosguard Beast-Taming Academy would be held today. The noble students likely already had secured spots within the academy, and none of them were aboard Ashtar’s Train Cycle, the route that stretched across the entire continent. It made sense, especially now that the trials were being held within the Royal District.
Only individuals from 4th degree families, and very few from 5th degree, were on today’s train. Most carried prepared lunches, some were seen off by their parents, and others held small items just to keep their hands busy and their nerves steady.
Nobody had their beast out. That would have been a terrible move. Everyone wanted to observe the competition first before revealing their own strength.
Alex and Cassie sat together in the middle of the left row. Alex had the window seat; Cassie did not. The sofas were soft, comfortable, and a deep shade of red.
"How long are you going to keep that two-faced persona for?" Alex asked, his gaze fixed on the beautiful forest and the crowds gathered within the Royal District outside.
Every person there was dressed in rich clothing, surrounded by family and friends.
Then there was Alex.
Someone who would have had none of that, if it were not for Victor.
Cassie turned her head slightly, her expression softening into a gentle smile. "What could you possibly mean?" she asked, her voice light as a feather.
Alex let out a quiet sigh. "Never mind."
Ever since that moment, they rarely spoke inside the inn unless it was necessary. Still, Victoria Marshall, the Arch Demon, remained polite and gentle, cooking for them daily as long as Alex continued to hunt and bring in supplies.
After catching up with Victoria, Alex learned that Cassie had been abandoned as a child. That was when the two of them first met.
It had been in a forest far from these peaceful lands. They grew up together, creating the illusion that Victoria was her mother.
In truth, they were simply close companions, though Victoria had always been the more mature of the two.
Cassie had continued strengthening her bond, and by now, Alex could tell that her soul resonance with Luna had reached its peak.
Still, it did not matter to him.

Alex was powerful, but nobody knew it. Victoria could sense his rapid growth, and Cassie was aware of it as well, yet neither of them ever spoke about it.
There was still one thing that bothered him.
His [Shadow Bat Egg].
It had not hatched once, not even after four weeks of constant quests.
He did not dwell on it for long. At his current level, he had more than enough strength to deal with most academy students.
The royals, however, were a different matter.
Still, it was only a matter of time before they witnessed what he had gained with Adoff.
Their soul resonance.
"How much longer?" someone yawned from the back, already tired of the thirty-minute ride. "This is so boring."
"Two more hours until we arrive," a boy beside him said, dressed in clean, elegant clothing. "So just do whatever until then."
The other boy let out a low groan. "Fine, fine."
Alex felt his seat tremble slightly, but he ignored it.
Tzzzz.
It shook again, this time pushing him forward.
Tzzz. Tzzz.
The vibrations continued, each one stronger than the last, as if something was repeatedly slamming into the back of his seat.
Alex leaned forward, peering through the gap between his and Cassie’s seats.
As expected, a spoiled brat sat behind him, feet planted against the back of Alex’s seat, leaning back with a smug grin, arms crossed comfortably.
Alex rose slightly and turned around. "Hey, I was wondering if you could take your feet off my seat," he said politely. "It’s getting a bit annoying, especially with two hours left in the ride."
The boy met his gaze, chewing his gum loudly. He stared for a moment, then looked away as if Alex had never spoken.
That struck a nerve.
"Hey, brat," Alex said, his tone sharpening. "You mind listening? Take your feet off my seat."
Cassie glanced over, watching the situation unfold before letting out a quiet giggle. "Pathetic."
"So?" the boy said, meeting Alex’s gaze again. "What are you going to do about it?"
They stared at each other while the rest of the train remained lost in their own conversations.
Alex exhaled slowly. "Intimidation."

Alex kept his gaze fixed on Leonar’s confident and arrogant appearance.
Leonar let out a calm smirk, then brightened his eyes, "You curious about something?"
Then, a whisper, one only Leonar could hear, came out of Leonar’s mouth, "People in this world are too eager sometimes."
For one of the first times ever since contracting with Victor, Alex’s demands were denied.
Leonar Nova was his name, or so Alex’s system portrayed. And so he trusted, but a ’seal?’ Alex has never once heard of it.
Did, by chance, Leonar creat such a thing?
