Chapter 71: I decide for myself! (1)

The conversation did not go any further as after saying his piece, Azrael left the place.

Lareina had just sat back on the bed when Rosie entered the room with a bowl of fruits in her hand, ’’My Lady, His Highness asked me to send this to you... What happened?" she asked when she noticed Lareina’s exhausted expression.

’’You, address me as sister when we are still in disguise,’’ Lareina poked the girl’s forehead as before eating the fruits.

’’Ah!" Rosie was embarrassed, ’’My Lady, you...’’

’’It’s nothing much. He doesn’t want me to join him on this mission,’’ Lareina narrowed her eyes before she continued eating.

’’My Lady, isn’t it the right thing to do? If you go along then we don’t know what kind of perils we would encounter. His Highness must be worried about you since you don’t know how to fight nor do you have any powers. It only shows he cares about you.’’

’’Do I need his care?" Lareina paused.

’’Ah?!" Rosie was dumbstruck. In recent days, it was more and more difficult to understand what was going on in the couple’s mind. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Watching her dumbly scratch her head, Lareina sighed, ’’Go and take rest. I want to stay alone.’’

Rosie bowed and retreated.

It had not been long since Rosie left before there was a knock on the door again. Lareina looked over to find the little lady of the inn standing outside, clinging to the door as she looked at the fruits in her hand longingly.

’’Come here,’’ Lareina waved her hand and as the girl rushed over, she passed her the bowl, ’’Do you want some.’’

The girl puffed her round cheeks, eyes full of dignity yet after a few seconds, she deflated and took some of the fruits in both her tiny fists, ’’These are not provided in the inn. Your husband got them for you. He weez...not...beaad...’’

Towards the end, her speech got incoherent as she had stuffed the fruits in her mouth.

’’How did you know he is my husband? Eat properly before you speak,’’ Lareina was helpless against kids, more so against such tiny adorable ones. It made her want to squeeze and bite them and if not for propriety, she would not refrain.

Seeing those bulging cheeks, she could only restrain her itchy hands and look away reluctantly.

’’Father told me in the morning,’’ the little girl gulped it down in a rush and caught her breath before she spoke, ’’He said I must not grow up and marry a man like that. Someone who has a scary demeanour and a scarier heart, a coward, who pushes his wife to the front when trouble arises and hides behind her like an incapable person!" With her little fingers raised, she listed all the things one by one.

Lareina raised a brow and she was about to open her mouth to speak but her gaze landed on the shadow outside the room. After a brief calculation, she knew that the person outside was the same man who had stubbornly left the room earlier after stating his decision.

After thinking for a while, she remained mum. His Highness Prince Azrael would not mind a little blemish to his pristine reputation. Who asked him to cause trouble in his disguise?

’’It doesn’t matter who you marry as long as you choose him,’’ Lareina said in response to the girl who was looking at her with eyes expectant of an answer, ’’and you are willing to face the consequences of who he turns out to be. But remember, no matter what, you should always put your values first when you are with another person,’’ As she spoke, her words were vague, confusing one whether she was speaking to the little girl or herself.

’’I don’t understand what you said,’’ the girl blinked, ’’But I don’t agree with father at all. Your husband is a good man, big sister...’’ the girl promptly switched her form of address as she spoke in an exaggerated tone.

’’Oh? How so?" A good person?

Lareina glanced at the good person who was eavesdropping from outside, standing behind the door.

’’He protected you in the crowd in the morning. He made good arrangements for your meals. He sends you fruits and he forbids anyone from visiting you in the morning, taking care of all their concerns and questions on your behalf. Good person!" The girl blinked and handed her another candy wrapped in paper before she lifted the bowl of fruits, looking at her expectantly.

’’Take it,’’ Lareina nodded.

Once the little girl was gone, Lareina glanced at the shadow outside the door that remained still, ’’Your Highness, if you want to come in, you can. People will mistake you for a ghost if you keep hovering there like one,’’ She removed the paper and looked at the small sugar candy before popping it in her mouth.

It spread a burst of sweetness in her mouth. It was too sweet for her but it seemed like the girl was fond of these. Lareina decided to not waste the girl’s resources by accepting these from her in the future.

’’I merely don’t know how to face the woman who relishes in seeing her husband being criticized.’’

’’Hmm?" Lareina chewed and gulped down the candy that nearly made her teeth tremble before blinking up at the man innocently, ’’I was merely shaken by your decision earlier so I was unable to respond to the little girl’s words.’’

This sly woman. Azrael squinted. Was she saying that if went against her words, she would listen to people criticizing him?

"You left earlier. Is there any reason you came back suddenly?" Lareina asked him like she had said nothing out of the ordinary.

’’Rune will be staying here to look after you and the third prince while...’’

’’Your Highness, you did tell me that I am staying here. But when did I agree to it?" Lareina rose from the bed slowly, ’’Unless you are one-sidedly imposing your decision on me?"
