Demon Prince's Forsaken Bride-Chapter 65: A Deeper Conspiracy (3)
In the other room, the atmosphere was tense. Azrael was seated on a chair and kneeling in front of him were Astra and Rune, who each had their own matters to report.
’’Your Highness, there is a royal carriage lurking in the area nearby. I am afraid it is somebody sent by the main palace,’’ Rune reported.
The two people got up to their feet when Azrael motioned them with his finger.
’’My Lord, the forests nearby seem strange,’’ Astra’s words got the attention of both the men in the room.
She had gone to the forest to complete her punishment mission and had killed a lot of feral demonic beasts but she had felt like something was very bizarre there.
’’There is a surge of beasts,’’ Usually, it would have taken her a few days to slay so many beasts but in a matter of a few hours, she managed to encounter demonic beasts at every step, ’’They seem to be never ending. The deeper you go into the forest, the more ferocious they become. It Is almost like...’’
’’Someone is manipulating them,’’ Azrael frowned, thinking back to the beast tide in the underground ghost market.
After a while, Azrael waved his hand at Rune, ’’If you happen to encounter the official in there, just lead him to me,’’ It could not be any prince coming here to risk his life so it should be some official sent here to keep his eyes on the progress of the mission or probably to pass some message sent by the King.
"Your Highness?" Both Astra and Rune were surprised because it was not the man’s way to let another person meddle in his work.
’’He might be useful,’’ Azrael pinched the spot between his brows, ’’The other thing... How far did it go?" When he spoke of that, he looked at Rune.
’’My Lord, after you ordered me to keep an eye on Lady Moira, nobody has come to meet her yet. Later, I had to leave to keep an eye on the murder so there was a sliver of opportunity but still it would not be without risk for anyone to meet her at that time.’’
Astra and Rune had been ordered for separate things. Like she had been asked to get Rosie treated so she was clueless about the orders Rune had received. When she heard this, her eyes widened.
’’Maybe Lady Larei...’’ Rune trailed off when Azrael gazed up at him, eyes displeased.
’’She is my wife. Be mindful of how you address her.’’
Being the right hand man was no small task. Rune immediately understood the implication and framed his words accordingly, ’’Maybe Her Highness saw it wrongly.’’
’’Did Lady... Her Highness sees Lady Moira with someone?" Astra took no time to catch up and in doing so, she aptly managed to avoid her good buddy’s mistake as well.
But Azrael frowned a little, ’’Don’t address her like that on her face,’’ he uttered after a long time.
Astra was speechless. She looked at Rune who seemed to carry the same expression as her. Could it be that their prince wanted to stake his claim on his wife but he was also afraid of being too aggressive in the process and was concerned about her reaction?
’’She could not have seen wrong if she came to me with such conviction,’’ Azrael pinched the spot between his brows. There was something so utterly wrong that whenever he thought about the time during which Lareina dragged him with her to the gardens, he got a headache. His memories after that remained fragmented and lost and every time he went to reflect on that, he would somehow overlook it.
Had it not been for the night before when he almost hurt Lareina and ended up stabbing himself in the very last second, this shred of realization would never have occurred to him as well. Perhaps even he would be in the dark.
’’Your Highness, does it mean Lady Moira is suspicious? Shall we...’’ Astra lifted her hand and moved her thumb across the neck, ’’silence her?" she was unhinged with her words and actions.
All this while, she was not fond of Moira but tolerated her because of her superior’s tolerance of her and also because of the woman’s loyalty in Azrael but if it turned out that she had ulterior motives, then Astra would bat an eyelid before ending her life.
’’No,’’ Azrael said calmly, ’’Just get to the other person involved in this. Don’t harm her.’’
Astra sighed inwardly. As expected, their prince still had feelings for the fairer sex.
At this moment, there was a knock on the door followed by a sickly sweet voice, ’’May I enter the room, elder brother~?"
Astra felt goosebumps all over. Usually, the woman seemed to have a natural talent for acting but now that she was needed to act, she is behaving like this. Which sister called their brother in such a disgusting voice?
Azrael waved his hand. Rune grabbed Astra’s elbow and both the people jumped out of the window.
’’Come in.’’
"Your Highness, I looked everywhere for you,’’ Moira locked the door behind her as she made her way to Azrael.
’’Is there something that you need?" Azrael propped his forehead on his fist as he looked up at her.
’’I...’’ Moira blushed a little, ’’It has been chaotic ever since we came here. I was thinking we should go out to take a stroll or admire the flowers...’’
When the man did not respond, she stepped closer to him and knelt on the ground, placing her hand on Azrael’s chair, ’’Your HIghness, I know you are worried about the situation here but so far, we haven’t encountered any ghosts. I feel like these people have exaggerated matters out of proportion. Not only do you have to deal with that, there is also Lady Lareina. She has been wilful and throwing tantrums since she came here and now she has attracted the entire crowd’s attention by acting out. It has been hard on you. So, I think going out should make you feel better and...’’
’’Others might not know but haven’t I made things clear to you?" Azrael’s emotionless voice was like a bucket of cold water that doused Moira’s enthusiasm, leaving her with a chill that permeated her bones.
