Chapter 51: You do not touch my people (2)

Moira smiled, covering her lips with her hand as she did so, ’’It’s a dark night. Is it safe for a young lady like me to wander around outside?" she tucked her hair behind her ear, ’’I was feeling unwell after the heavy meal so I went to look for something to cool my body down.’’

If Astra did not understand what was happening before, she could figure out that something was amiss now.

However, at this point, Moira’s words were clean. Lareina had no doubts that if she went to confirm with the innkeeper and other people whether Moira had approached them, they would agree. Since the woman had the confidence to say such things, she must have covered all loose ends.

Hoping that at least Azrael found the mysterious man, Lareina was about to retreat from Moira’s room when her gaze landed on Rosie and her eyes darkened, ’’Who did it?" she reached out to touch Rosie’s face that was half swollen.

Astra also looked at Rosie when she heard Lareina’s words. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

’’My Lady, I just slipped and hurt myself.’’

Lareina frowned, ’’How do you slip and fall on the side of your face such that you end up having fingerprints on your skin? Demonstrate it for me.’’

Hearing the cold edge on her voice, Rosie shivered. She had served Lareina for so long and she knew that this human princess was very sweet, tolerant and soft-spoken most of the time. She would not open her mouth but when she did, she would only utter kind words no matter how one disrespected her. It has always been the case when any maid badmouthed her but there was the one time when Rosie was bullied that Lareina slapped those maids who bullied her and put them in her place.

Rosie still remembered Lareina what Lareina had said.

’If you want to harm my person, you have to ask me first. I might not have an important position and I might be a hostage here, I am still a valuable hostage while you bunch are worthless. If this matter escalated, I would be the last person to lose my head!’

After that those people had not really treated them especially well, but they never dared to go out of their way to bully them as well. And as the dust settled, Lareina had already gone back to her ’I know nothing. I do nothing except for waiting for my husband to return from war’ self. To Rosie, it was almost like a dream or illusion that never happened because she never saw that side of Lareina again.

At least not until Azrael’s return with his rumored lover.

"I am asking you something!" Lareina’s voice chilled.

’’M-My Lady...’’

At this moment, Rune returned. Astra turned and their gazes met and the man shook his head. The prince was nowhere to be seen.

’’Rosie, the lady is concerned about you. You should be honest with her.’’

When Astra’s words dropped, Lareina nodded and reached out to hold Rosie’s hand.

Rosie’s eyes teared up as she turned to look at Moira.

"Are you trying to frame me now?" Moira rose to her feet, ’’What evidence do you even have...’’

’’Tell me what happened,’’ Lareina cut the woman off.

’’Earlier...’’

While Rosie spoke, everyone listened patiently.

When they had entered the room, Moira was already sulking, throwing things about. Then after a while, she suddenly got up and left the room. Just a few minutes before Lareina and Astra arrived at the room, Moira knocked on the door. And when Rosie opened the door, she was slapped harshly without any reason.

Moira sneered as she walked towards them, ’’What need do I have to slap a maid like you? Do you realize what the consequences would be for trying to frame me?"

’’The consequences are bad,’’ Lareina turned to her, ’’But only if she is trying to frame you.’’

’’You cannot believe her words, can you?"

’’I believe her,’’ Lareina held Rosie’s hand and pulled her behind her.

Moira snickered, ’’I would see what you would dare to do to me just based on her words alone.’’

’’Even though I have been living in the demon realm for quite some time, I am a human. Some habits are hard to change,’’ Lareina turned to look at Astra as she spoke, ’’Rosie has been taking care of these things for me, for years now, from the essences I use, to the incense in my room.’’

Astra took the clue and immediately spoke up, ’’My Lady, please let me know what you need me to do.’’

Moira’s eyes narrowed, ’’You people don’t have the authority to overpower me with numbers. Where is His Highness? He would not let you people do this!"

’’Nobody is overpowering you,’’ Lareina turned to her, ’’But since you are concerned about the evidence, I am merely preparing them. His Highness would know what to do when he comes back.’’

’’You...’’

’’I use essential oil made of flowers, especially roses for my hair occasionally. These oils are rare in the demon realm, especially after the war because whatever remaining trades between the two realms were left before has been prohibited now. However, when I had initially come here, Rosie had brought them in huge quantities from the marketplace for me as she did not get the chance to step out often."

Later, in the small backyard of her bedchamber, Rosie made an effort to plant roses, herbs and some other flowers to make her feel at home and Lareina taught her how to make those oils so she had been using it to this day.

’’What are you implying? Do you think you can talk in circles and accuse me of something I have no hand in...’’ Moira’s words were cut off as Astra’s sword pressed against her throat.

’’Careful how you speak to Her Highness.’’

’’You...’’ Moira seemed like she wanted to curse the woman but she refrained, her eyes reddening, whether in rage or humiliation or pretense, one could not tell.

Lareina looked at Astra gratefully before slowly nudging her wrist down, removing the weapon from Moira’s throat. In any case, Azrael really did seem to favor Moira to a great extent and she did not want to cause trouble for his subordinates.

However, after tonight, she wished for Azrael to see the woman for what she was. Since Moira demanded evidence, she would get the evidence.
