Four giant black bolts with hooked tips shot through the air with a slight arc.

"Nets!" Brando shouted as he pulled the trigger; his heavy crossbow flashed with blue light, and his explosive arrow shot. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Argh!"

With a cry, the recoil threw him ten metres through the air.

BOOM!

His bolt lanced through the air before exploding an inch from the Ogre's face.

The Ogre tried to swat the bolt, but missed.

Blinded by the blast.

The four bolts tore through the Ogre's flesh, twisting through its arms and legs, a thin thread made of arachnid silk attached to them as they burrowed into its flesh.

Brando's body slammed against the ground, bouncing twice, before he coughed another shout. "Grab the wires! Bring the fucker down."

Fwoosh!

The four crossbowmen grabbed a strange pole attached to the tip of their crossbows, shaped like a fishing rod's reel.

"Pull! Tighten the net!"

The warriors with shields and spears, all pulled the nets, tight as the Ogre charged blindly towards where they stood.

Thud! Thud!

With two steps, the Ogre covered almost four metres and reached the nets.

Brando rolled onto his stomach, cranking his crossbow bolt back.

His muscles bulged and burned.

"Come on, you piece of junk!"

The metal creaked as he pulled a long, solid black quarrel,

its tip uniquely shaped with a long stinger-type edge. 'This fucker cost us half our last winnings, it better penetrate this fuckers heart!'

"Pull!"

"Hold!"

Bando couldn't order the men around all the time, so when he was reloading or aiming, the smallest of the bald men started calling out. "Ready, reel in this big fucker! Force him to the nets, don't hold back!"

The image was quite grotesque, with nine men all pulling and dragging this huge monster, their muscles bulging to the point of almost exploding.

Although their muscles looked big, they weren't human muscles, but demon muscles. So the explosive power and endurance fighters gained from a lean build weren't lost. Thus, these large muscles carried the best of both worlds.

All thanks to demon blood and the breathing technique that tripled the amount of oxygen one could take in when needed.

It would increase along with the depth one studied the technique.

Brando's oxygen intake now matched eight times that of a normal human. His demonic heart is pumping at 300 bpm to keep his entire body flooded with oxygen and remove the lactate from his tired muscles.

Clang!

Once the quarrel sat in the chamber, Brando's eyes focused on the huge Ogre still fumbling around, swinging at the warriors holding the nets.

'Damn, it's good senses.'

"Pull back, Two men! Draw this big bastard into the net!"

Brando's voice acted like a lightning bolt, sending signals directly to the brains of his men.

"I'll go."

"Me too!"

The two largest men barely reached the knee of the colossal Ogre.

Yet they didn't hesitate, both holding their shields and spears, and rushed forward.

"For the Golden Hare!"

.

.

.

Asmodeus watched Brando fighting the Ogre and clenched his fist. He couldn't help but curl his lips with excitement at the growth of his brother. Brando, three years ago, lacked any tactical knowledge or combat experience.

A mere overweight merchant!

'Look at you now, I am sure Martha would be frothing at the lips.'

His betting reached maximum soon after the initial clash, with a smile on his lips as people insulted them as bald freaks.

[You seem delighted, honey.]

'Nerim, do you see. It's my brother, to think he's fighting this hard!'

Nerim's voice sounded smooth like Velvet, yet Asmodeus didn't lose his focus; he wanted to join them to fight beside his brother.

Almost ready to tap the enter button, he paused.

"No."

But shook his head.

"A mere Ogre cannot endanger me, but for Brando, this is an important battle. He is about to evolve from an average man and become a hero!"

He cleared his throat, then leaned back, wanting to take in the entire battle.

"Come, Brando. The stage is yours!"

.

.

.

VWOOSH!

Brando didn't hear or feel Asmodeus's thoughts; he just focused on the enemy before him. The moment the huge Ogre stepped within range of the netting, his two fighters sliced across the monster's ankles and calves.

"Hah!"

"Beast!"

The two men darted between the Ogre's legs.

One ducked to avoid the massive palm of the beast, but the other missed the timing.

Bam!

"Ugh!"

A bronzed human flew in the air, his body rotating rapidly.

"Zagrief!"

After being struck, the man flipped dozens of times before slamming into a fake tower created by the arena. With a thud, he sank into the stone. The impact shattered his as he vomited blood and spit before sliding down the cracked surface.

"Kuha..." With a wheeze, the man leaned to the side.

"Oh no, folks!? We've lost one warrior!"

"Warrior Zagrief, stand up! Kekekekekekeke!"

The auctioneers mocked and insulted the fallen warrior, but they'd experienced this over and over during the past two months.

Treated like dirt, abandoned. Of course, the group lost men, but Brando remained their leader because of more than strength.

"Men!" He stood, his heavy crossbow causing his muscles to swell further, the weight like carrying a dozen cows. "Zagrief is alive, we must keep fighting!"

The moment he shouted, everyone looked and noticed Zagrief trying to drag himself up, holding his broken spear with blood oozing from his lips and nose.

"We Golden Hares don't submit, no matter how many times we fight those bigger or stronger..."

He stopped for a moment, before pulling the trigger, with one last bellow.

"Never Stand Down!"

The men responded with their own growls.

"ALWAYS BITE BACK!"

VWOOM!

The moment his quarrel burst free, it twirled thanks to the spiral shape, gaining momentum as it lanced through the Ogre's eye.

Already mid-fall, the Orge's arms swatted the air, unable to stop it.

SQUELCH!

"Oh my goodness... did they win?"

"How can this be? Is this a fixed match?!"

People's shouts sounded, but Brando focused on nothing but reloading.

"Hold him down, wrap his limbs in net and stake him in place!"

"Aye Aye, Sir!"

.

.

.

Asmodeus's eyes shone.

He watched the men who followed Brando penetrate the struggling Ogre's arms, thighs and feet with long, black spears pinning it to the ground. It was a short fight, with one casualty, but with a single look, Asmodeus curled his lips further.

'He's mastered the second tier of the breathing technique.'

The first tier brought power.

The second tier brought regenerative power.

The third and final tier brought longevity.

"Brando, how did you find such talents? No. Maybe it's because they fought for their lives at the bottom of the barrel, faced with certain death?"

Asmodeus swallowed.

He began to consider the demon knights.

He wanted to create a force using these principles, but also with the best demon blood and items to help their growth become explosive.

'I need an army to fight the coming battles. If I just go alone, then their allies will slip around and attack my people!'

That's when he thought about the Valkyrie.

'Should I build a force based on the Valkyrie? Maybe starting with Brando and calling them The Black Wings of Asmodeus or something.'

Because he could still feel the hesitation and light side when he faced Velvet and her troops, it was clear Serena and Lumina couldn't cross the limits which he, as the Demon God, would happily cross.

Instantly, he thought of Levia to lead them.

'Well, let's focus on the auction first.'

With excitement and ideas rumbling, he couldn't help but watch Brando and his men who ended the Ogre's life with a triumphant roar.

"Truly, a bunch of average men destined to die, overturned their fate and became heroes."

.

.

.

Meanwhile, back in the arena, Brando and his men took out knives, cutting the Ogre's thick, hide-like skin apart from the muscle, and began to take important parts.

"Don't forget the heart and testicles!" He barked, looking at the pale-faced Zagrief.

The wounded warrior curled his lips, grinning back at his leader. "I survived, boss."

"Tsk. You should have died. What a waste of our heroic efforts to avenge you!"

"Kekekeke!"

Brando's keen eyes kept focused on the distant gates and the beings hovering above. He knew that this wasn't the end. The red team, where his wife belonged, would be their final opponent.

Each of the men in the group knew of their romantic tale.

What he worried about most was Martha.

"Hurry, they will send another beast soon enough; we can only be thankful for those fools complaining and shouting!"

He knew that his master and brother wouldn't abandon him. After listening to the recent rookies joining the slave pit, Brando learned that someone who matched Asmodeus's description had destroyed the Black Hand.

'You sure took your time, Boss.'

With a gleeful heart, he cut into the Ogre's eye, hoping to dig the brain out, to stew for dinner.

.

.

.

Above, the three auctioneers looked flustered at the outcome, but the betting had to be honoured.

"Well, well, calm down! It's the arena, so of course there can be unexpected endings!"

"Don't fight! Don't Fight!"

"Even if they won the first round, do you think they stand a chance against the Elite of Elites?! The Red Team Led by the Red Queen?!"

While Asmodeus watched the three women flying around to soothe the other visitors and betters who probably lost thousands if not more, he kept his eyes on the main stage.

"I knew she would be back."

He glimpsed a flicker of light and saw Funf.

Once again, she changed her outfit, this time wearing a dress similar to the Middle Eastern belly dancers from his world.

A thin red silk cloth wrapped her limbs and body lightly, as she stepped with elegant and fluttering steps, swaying her wide hips with a seductive flick.

'Well, well, well.'

She looked at him with fiery eyes.

He gazed down at her with cold, judgmental eyes.

The time of their clash wasn't far off, and Asmodeus could barely hold himself back.
