Chapter 749: In The Depths Lies Danger

Asmodeus glared at the woman, and yet whenever their eyes met, she showed a confused, forlorn expression. He couldn’t make heads or tails of it, but the event was starting, and there was nothing he could do now. From the start, he knew it wouldn’t be easy; learning it might be a trap changed nothing.

"Nerim, whatever happens tonight, don’t leave my side—?!"

However, as he spoke, the floor shook as if an earthquake started, and each of the crystal seats flickered with the condensed mana in the air. As he looked around, only a few others in the front row looked confused or curious.

Meanwhile, the powerful auras he detected earlier sat with calm smiles filled with greedy delight.

"We hope you enjoy the mystical and renowned Auction of the Blood Moon."

With the four women’s voices, a thunderous noise echoed, and with several mechanical clicks, the crystal seats began to lift from the ground.

That’s when he reached for Nerim.

Bzzzt!

"Asmodeus?!" Nerim called out with a fearful shout.

But a powerful force field burned his fingertips as Nerim watched him with wide eyes. The pair flew into the air, curling around the circular stage, with each of them going to a different auctioneer.

"Nerim!"

He called out, but the sound became muffled, and each time he slammed the energy wall, the force instantly diffused and flew back at him.

"Damn it!"

His anger grew inside like a raging fire. Although he trusted Nerim’s abilities, she wasn’t strong enough to face some monsters in the crowd. Let alone the bitch on the stage who now looked directly at him.

’Nerim, can you hear me?’

Desperate, Asmodeus opened their telepathic link, but the moment he spoke, a painful jolt struck his mind, as if someone jabbed his brain with a knife.

Sadly, from the look on Nerim’s face on the other side of the stage, he could tell she didn’t hear him.

Bang!

With one last punch, he hit the crystal, even that took almost no damage from his superior physical force. Only now did this mystical energy and arena make sense. Whoever built this place used materials that resisted magic and divine auras.

’Calm down.’

’Getting angry won’t fix or help.’

Asmodeus clenched his jaw, biting down on his anger, while trying to calm his mind. To do so, he forced his split mind to take over, forcing the parts dominated by anger into a passive state.

He closed his eyes slowly, then flicked open his eyelashes.

The dazzling blue pupils shimmered, along with his pitch-black sclera.

To regain focus, he completely entered his demon form, letting his divine aura and mana fuse with the abyssal energies to calm his divine core and corrupted shard. He masked their energies using the pure darkness inside the tiny death shard to achieve this cold, sinister calm.

"Well then, let’s see what you’ve got planned, Blood Moon."

After coming to the mainland, the groups that called themselves Blood Moon numbered in the thousands. But when reading information from the Bronzeblade. It turned out most of these were fakes. As for the true blood moon, it was an organisation in direct competition and enmity with the current Emperor of the human Empire.

When the Emperor was a Prince, he labelled them as heathens, believers in fallen or false gods, and with the support of his father, led a crusade against them.

’Well, some of the information claimed the Blood Moon was actually the power of another prince, and served the imperial family. Yet, I couldn’t get anything more as no documents remained...’

Woosh!

Asmodeus leaned back and glanced around him, noticing that the only seats floating were those of the VIP section. As if arranged beforehand, certain seats faced each of the four women hosting the auction.

He faced the Arbiter, who, with part of her face covered, acted coy.

.

.

.

Once the VIP seats hovered in the air, glowing with a mysterious energy, that’s when the stage shook, and the seats began to detach and levitate in four sections. Each of the four women hopped onto a large piece of rock before hopping to smaller portions above, with the stage forming levitating steps which reached towards the VIP seats.

’He’s here~ watching me with those fiery, hateful eyes. Ah~ Keep watching me!’

The beautiful redhead danced on the stage, yet her vision and focus never once left the seat hovering in the air.

"It’s time for the first item on display, something found in the depths of the southern mountains, a sword said to be wielded by a mysterious hero with the blessing of a god!"

Funf’s lips curled into a twisted smile as she described the weapon.

In front of her was a single seat, her target, the one she wanted to devour.

What allowed this to work was that the normal customers in the higher seats could also see the four women much better once they climbed to the top. Each piece of rock shone bright, illuminating where the auctioneer stood, as they all took a simultaneous bow at the very top, before a deep male voice sounded.

"Now, finally, the stage is set for the 136th Blood Moon Carnival!"

"Your beautiful hostesses are here to bring you delight and pleasure of the highest order!"

"Bless the gods for granting you such an opportunity!"

BLESS THE GODS!

A shout from the crowd filled the cavern, thousands of voices stacking to reverberate dozens of times as if in prayer.

’Huh?’

Asmodeus felt a strange vibration after every echo of their ’bless the gods’ something in the depths of the earth, deeper even than this cavern, something moved, rejoiced...

’What the hell are these people dealing with right now?’

He glanced at Funf, who watched him with a passionate stare, before he snapped his gaze to the small gemstone in the centre where the four parts of the stage connected. That crystal now glowed faintly, growing stronger each time the people chanted.

"I really don’t like this shit..."

’Only a handful of existences can grow stronger through praise.’

Serena and Lumina constantly forced him to learn more practical and theoretical knowledge once he reached Rank One. In the past, he could just grab his axe and swing it around without thinking.

However, once he touched the realm of the divine, his kind wives became like baneful Asura!

So, seeing this phenomenon, where the hopes, emotions and prayers of the humans above gathered in an almost tangible power, that could even stir his dormant divine core. Asmodeus upgraded his sense of danger to imminent.

He ignored the Arbiter before him, knowing her power of illusion and seduction, because he’d broken them before and could do it again.

Even the threat from Grundig vanished from his mind, because the existence they’d hidden underneath the Empire was something, something far bigger than he’d felt even when facing Ein or Zwei.

His skin tingled with sharp, painful tingles.

The moment golden energy flowed through his eyes, he tried to use his god’s eye to determine the nature of the crystal.

Poof!

Asmodeus suddenly coughed up blood.

His eyes felt wet and hot, and everything became blurry.

"Argh! What the hell."

He reached for his cheeks, wiping the hot sticky liquid from his cheeks, only to find golden blood leaking from his eyes. "Damn it, what the hell is that thing?"

Of course, the Arbiter on the stage couldn’t miss this. So when he looked up at Funf, her eyes opened wide, filled with a strange emotion as she almost appeared to be reaching out to him. Only to pull back and remove her gaze.

"It’s time, everyone."

"For the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the legendary sword!"

"A sword wielded by a half-god!"

"The blade that slayed the red dragon king!"

"What treasure, how unique! The bidding will start at five hundred credits and rise in values of one hundred!"

Each woman spoke once, their tone and appeal filled with a huge passion.

When Funf spoke of the red dragon king, she half knelt, offering both arms towards Asmodeus.

-600 Here!

"Oh my, 600!"

"700!"

The bidding set fire, with each of the four corners glowing with a vibrant flash each time a successful bid came through.

Asmodeus glanced around, noticing that most of the bids came from the ordinary section, and none of the VIPs bid on this so-called heroic sword.

’I can’t even see if it’s real.’

Thanks to that damn crystal that burned his eyes and caused a painful experience, even the items on stage couldn’t be appraised by him. The moment he tried, he felt his divine eyes pulled to that dark, gleaming crystal against his will.

’It’s more powerful than me, or rather... it has more aura.’

Although he couldn’t win now, Asmodeus felt it was only a matter of time, since he wasn’t normal, and his ability to increase his divine and abyssal auras wasn’t normal. He’d learned that both Gods and Abyssal beasts usually chose a path, a calling, a desire to follow.

Because he reached this level with the help of Serena and Lumina, technically breaking the rules. Hence, the Arbiters hunted him, and not the other gods or god-touched existences that lived on the planet.

But Asmodeus could grow almost infinitely through fighting, killing and even sex.

He currently holds three different titles and domains, but with his current one growing, there would be four.

If he were a normal god, his only domain would be time.

However, Asmodeus was an oddity, a demon. The Creator didn’t make the demons, and because of this, even the weakest demon could ignore the world’s rules.

’Which makes sense why the gods hated that demon queen and tried to get rid of me the moment I managed to get rid of her.’

"Forget it, this isn’t important..."

Because the sub-brains of his parallel thought, which controlled his thoughts and reasoning, were in control, his thoughts became more prominent, rather than his usual self.

But now that the anger settled, he let his mind calm down and brought the main part of his brain back to focus.

With that, he watched Funf dancing around the stage, her movements and coquettish voice quite comfortable to watch.

"We have 1200 Credits, oh my what a brave spender! Are you the next hero?!"
