“I’ve read it, and my answer is, no thanks!” Blake shouted, making sure his voice was loud enough for the humanoid demons on the other side of the gate to hear it loud and clear.
The silence that descended right after Blake said those words stayed for about 10 whole seconds before finally, the scrawny humanoid demon’s voice appeared once again.
“Are you really sure? You know that you have to go through us if you want to access the portal to the next realm, right?” Before Blake could respond to the scrawny humanoid demon’s words, the latter spoke again.
“And you might not know this, but the situation in the second demon realm isn’t anything like the situation here in the first demon realm.”
“That’s like saying you will get yourselves wet if you jump into the sea. That’s a stupid statement. Of course, the second demon realm would be very different from here.” This time, it was Vera who spoke instead of Blake.
Hearing the instantaneous and confident answer as if she knew the words that she said as a matter of fact, the scrawny humanoid demon’s eyes turned his eyes towards Vera, and bowed his head slightly.
“Nice to meet you miss, it’s a rare occurrence that we get to meet other demons that ascended the realms.”
Truthfully, the scrawny humanoid demon was already 99% sure that Vera was also a demon that came from the deeper realms instead of being a native of the first demon realm.
Simply seeing her appearance, a demon that looked very similar to a human, with a beautifully proportionate body, a fair, soft, beige-colored skin, yet there exists two small horns, and a fully developed pair of wings on her back, it was enough for the scrawny humanoid demon to tell that Vera wasn’t a demon that belonged in the first demon realm where even the gender of humanoid demons couldn’t be differentiated from each other.
.....
And now that he heard Vera’s words, he was even more certain that Vera really did come from the deeper realms, one that was even deeper than himself.
The humanoid demons in the second realm generally looked like him and the other demons that Blake had fought so far. Although their looks already looked similar to a human in terms of body proportion and the difference in sex characteristics between a male demon and a female demon, their skin color was still the same as the demons from the first realm.
The color that they had covering their whole body still depended on the biggest elemental affinity that they had. The humanoid demon from the second realm had forest green skin since his affinity was related to plant types, while he himself, had an affinity for the fire element, hence his reddish-colored skin.
While the case for the muscular humanoid demon, albeit not having an affinity for the fire element, his affinity in nether was not that much at all that he had the default reddish skin of a demon, just like the physical type demons that Blake met so far in the first demon realm that mostly used weapons or a unique physical trait of theirs as their weapons.
But Vera, Vera’s skin was the same color as a human woman’s, something that didn’t exist in the second demon realm and could only exist starting from the third realm.
Knowing that fact, the scrawny humanoid demon, an experienced rune master from the second realm, one that had participated in wars in other worlds, knew well how he should have acted in front of Vera.
In the other worlds, if he ever met a demon with Vera’s characteristics, then he would only bow his head in obedience, not saying a single word unless he was asked first by them because of a single mishap, or even if said demons were in a bad mood, then a demon like the scrawny humanoid demon would only disappear with a flick of their hands.
However, they were currently meeting in a different circumstance right now.
Instead of meeting Vera in another world where demons of different ranks could meet each other, they were currently meeting in the first demon realm.
And no matter how strong a demon was, they couldn’t fight back against the natural law that a demon needed to live in an environment where there was a proper quality of nether that could sustain their bodies so that they wouldn’t devolve and eventually die.
The scrawny humanoid demon knew that there was no way a demon like Vera, a demon that probably had evolved more than twice or even three times, would be able to casually exist in the first demon realm for longer than a dozen minutes without having their bodies start deteriorating.
This could only mean that Vera was doing the same thing as him, which was putting seals on her body so that she would be able to exist in the first demon realm without having to worry about her body devolving.
With someone in the same circumstance as himself, the scrawny humanoid demon knew that Vera wouldn’t be able to use the spells that could erase him in just a split second.
Using such spells without the innate nether in her body, something that wouldn’t be possible due to the seals, and with such a poor quality of nether in the environment, was simply impossible.
And that means he still had a chance to win despite the obvious difference in experience between the two. And that’s where his boldness came from.
“Believe me miss, the second demon realm is not what you know it was. I don’t know when was the last time you set foot there, but so many things have changed there.” The scrawny humanoid demon then stopped talking for a few seconds as if his mind was recalling something before then continued speaking.
“Do you think that we would voluntarily put seals on our bodies and ascend up here if there’s not an urgency down there?”
No demons wanted the hard-gained strength that they earned through killing countless enemies and eating countless souls to disappear just like that to ascend the demon realm, something that was the complete opposite of the innate instinct of all demons to get stronger and descend the realm.
The scrawny humanoid demon seemed to have something else to say, but at the last moment, he swallowed the unsaid words and instead asked once again.
“This is the last chance that I will ask. Will you join us and descend the realm later together when we finish our task here and get the protection of our faction in the second realm or will you still stand against us?”
Vera was about to snap her mouth once again, but Blake did it first this time,
“Of course, we will blow your heads up and descend down ourselves!”
Opening both palms, Blake revealed the two head-sized dark flame fireballs that were ready to be released at the three humanoid demons at any time.
Shaking his head and releasing a sigh, the scrawny humanoid demon spoke once again, “What a shame.”
Snapping his fingers, the seemingly empty base distorted as what was supposed to be plains and empty grounds revealed themselves to be a wall of illusion as hundreds of humanoid demons appeared all around Blake and his group.
He was supposed to be right outside the gate of the humanoid demon’s base, but after the illusion crumbled, it was finally revealed that they were actually standing right in the middle of the humanoid demons encirclement, with the actual base located still some distance away from their current location.
