Demon King After the End-Chapter 27: Spirit Companion
While the elves of Elyndor debated behind closed doors, far away in the heart of the demon wasteland, Leon was on the move.
He strolled through the center of the Nethersoil Zone, arms crossed, eyes sweeping over the area.
His retainers busied themselves — directing laborers, overseeing construction, organizing dwindling supplies into something resembling order.
But Leon’s attention wasn’t on the logistics today.
It was on the glowing message floating silently before his eyes.

✅ You have secured food production and begun rebuilding the heart of your territory.
🎁 Reward: Spirit Summoning Scroll (1x)
"Finally," Leon muttered under his breath.
Then his gaze narrowed. "Spirit summoning scroll?"
The system’s familiar, emotionless voice echoed in his mind.
[It is exactly what it implies. You are now eligible to summon a spirit companion. Once summoned, it will form a soul contract with you. Complete loyalty is guaranteed.]
Leon raised an eyebrow. "And what kind of spirit are we talking about?"
[The type is randomized. It could be offensive, supportive, elemental, utility-based, or a mix. Its rank may range from Common to Mythic—or in the worst case... something unusable.]
"...So, it’s basically gambling."
[Correct.]
Leon exhaled through his nose. "Figures."
He glanced around. The sun had already begun to rise over the horizon, casting long shadows across the darkened soil.
"Well, whatever this is, I’m not doing it in the middle of a field," he said, shaking his head. "Not with everyone watching."
Turning to where Elvera was overseeing a group of dark elves repairing collapsed structures, Leon raised a hand in farewell.
"I’m heading back. Handle things here."
Elvera offered a respectful nod, her silver hair catching the morning light. "Understood, my king."
With that, Leon mounted Zorath, the massive draconic demon letting out a low, rumbling snort as they took to the skies. The wind whipped around him, but his mind remained focused.
By the time he returned to the castle and sealed himself inside his chambers, the decision had already been made.
He summoned the scroll from his system inventory. It appeared with a dull shimmer, unrolling slowly in his hands. The parchment was dark, almost bark-like in texture, and ancient runes were faintly etched along its edges.
"Alright," Leon murmured, holding it up to the light. "Let’s see what fate has in store for me."
He pricked his finger and let a single drop of blood fall onto the center of the scroll.
What happened next... was anything but ordinary.
The scroll twitched.
Then trembled.
A deep blackness spread from the blood, devouring the parchment. Glowing red runes — completely alien in nature — flared into existence along the surface, spiraling and shifting.
Then, the scroll burst into ash.
The wind stopped.
A deep hum pulsed in the air. The shadows around him deepened, and the chamber darkened unnaturally — as if all light had been sucked into a void.
A circular rune, inscribed with rotating abyssal glyphs, ignited beneath his feet. The earth trembled slightly. Power—real, ancient power—seeped from the center.
Then something emerged.
A small figure floated upward, suspended in the air like a wisp. Humanoid in shape but only about 6-8 inches tall, she had soft green skin with vine-like textures, glowing eyes like amber lanterns, and jet-black wings folded behind her back. Her hair was a tangle of luminous vines, adorned with glowing flowers that pulsed softly.
She blinked.
Then grinned.
"...Hi."
Leon stared at her for a beat, trying to piece together what he was looking at.
"...You’re the spirit?"
"Yep!" she chirped, hands behind her back, swaying side to side in the air. "You summoned me. So I’m yours now."
"...You’re tiny."
"And you’re grumpy-looking, but I didn’t complain." She stuck out her tongue.
The system chimed in again.

Leon squinted at the hovering system window, his brows furrowed.
"Unknown rank? Evolving status?" he muttered. "What the hell does that even mean?"
The system’s voice replied, flat and clinical as ever:
[This spirit does not conform to existing classification. It displays dual traits—growth and entropy. Classification: Unique. Nature: Unstable. Potential: Extremely high.]
The tiny spirit drifted closer to his face, hovering just inches from his nose. She looked like a chibi-sized girl born from twilight petals—delicate black wings, glowing eyes, and faintly luminous vines sprouting from her back.
She smiled sweetly. "I can be whatever you need me to be... eventually."
Her voice had a melodic, playful quality to it. "Might take some time. I’m a late bloomer."
Leon folded his arms, studying her. "So what do I call you?"
She tilted her head, her leafy hair bobbing with the motion. "You get to name me! I’m just born, remember? Names are super important for spirits like me."
He glanced at the glowing vines coiled around her body, the dark-tinted wings, and the strange but soothing energy she radiated—half night, half bloom.
"...How about Mora?" he offered.
The spirit blinked. Then her cheeks lit up with a soft green flush, eyes sparkling.
"Ooh... I like that! Mora. Sounds fancy."
She twirled in the air like a dandelion seed caught in the wind. "Okay! I’m Mora now!"
She stopped in midair, hovering right in front of his face again. "So, boss—what now? Are you gonna put me to work already?" she asked with a cheeky grin.
Leon gave a rare, relaxed smirk. "Soon. But for now..."
He swiped open the system shop.
Leon flicked open the [System Shop – Food Category], letting the options scroll before his eyes.

A low chime rang out as the items materialized on a low table beside him—piping hot ramen with glistening broth, a bubbling slice of cheesy pizza, and a frosty can of cola that hissed as condensation formed on its sides.
Mora’s jaw dropped.
"What in the abyss is THAT?!" she zipped over the table, hovering above the pizza like a hummingbird mid-ritual. "It smells like—like melted sunshine and heaven’s regret! Is this even real?!"
Leon leaned back in his chair, cracking the soda open with a crisp tsshh! and taking a long sip. "Welcome to a taste of the old world," he said with a grin.
She fluttered closer to the ramen, eyes wide. "It’s got wiggly strings! And soup! And shiny egg slices! This is sorcery!"
Leon grabbed a pair of chopsticks and gave the ramen a quick stir. "It’s called ramen. And this—" he offered her the corner of the pizza crust "—is pizza. Try it."
She grabbed it with both hands, tiny wings flapping to stay airborne, and took a bite.
A single sparkle blinked in her eye.
Then her entire body glowed.
"MMMMMMMFF!!" Mora squealed, spinning midair. "It’s salty! And creamy! And chewy! I can taste victory! I can taste civilization! I—I think I just ascended a level!"
Leon barked out a laugh. "Careful, you’ll overheat your wings."
But Mora was already hugging the crust, kicking her legs in pure joy like a baby bat with a sugar rush. "This is the best day of my life—and I was literally born today!"
She zipped over to the ramen bowl next. "Okay, okay—round two! Gimme the wiggly soup!"
Leon chuckled, breaking off a small bit of egg and noodles. She nibbled delicately, then collapsed backward into his palm like she’d just seen the face of a god.
"This... is my new purpose," she whispered dramatically. "To eat everything you eat."
Leon leaned back, sipping cola as Mora twirled in bliss over the table.
"You’re lucky I didn’t summon a battle-hungry war spirit," he murmured. "You’d be a nightmare to feed."
Mora giggled. "Hey, I may not hit things, but I can grow things! Feed me and I’ll turn your wasteland into a garden of doom!"
He raised a brow. "A garden of doom?"
"Yup!" she declared, eyes twinkling. "Pretty, dangerous, and edible. Just like this pizza!"
Leon chuckled under his breath. "You’re going to be a handful."
"Yup!" Mora chirped, already dozing off contentedly on his shoulder. "But I’m your handful now."
He leaned back, staring at the ceiling of his chamber with a faint smile tugging at his lips.
Not bad for a roll of the dice.
