Chapter 98: Chapter 098 Water Ghosts

Crack!

Danielle’s bare feet forcefully stamped on the ground, producing a faint sound from the hard floor as she somersaulted backward, using the overturned sofa to block Roger for an instant.

By then, Danielle had already taken the opportunity to leap several meters away.

Her physical conditioning was terrifying.

Roger’s gaze turned slightly cold, but as he prepared to move, he found a blue and white silhouette swelling between himself and Danielle.

...

The creature’s features were twisted, its gigantic mouth occupying most of its face, eyes bulging outwards as if they were about to pop from their sockets.

On its forearms, back, and calves grew rows of bright red fin-like appendages resembling those of a fish.

The monster’s arms were very long, almost reaching its knees, with sharp, dark brown nails, and its body carried a mix of the scent of a corpse and fish.

Strangely enough, Roger could discern a hint of jealousy on the creature’s grotesque face.

The appearance of the monster reminded Roger of a certain creature.

Water Ghosts.

It seemed that the other three had been killed by the thing in front of him.

“The people were killed by it, not me,” Danielle said with a playful smile.

“Is this your pet?”

“Of course not.”

“In a way, it should hate me to death.”

There was a flash of insight in Roger’s mind, “Is it Judd?!”

Danielle nodded.

“The body is someone else’s, but the one inside should be Judd.”

“It was him who killed Travis.”

“I think the reason it killed Travis was out of jealousy.”

“Every man I’ve had a deep connection with has been killed by it.”

Danielle’s gaze turned cold.

“Honestly, I was also quite startled the first time I saw it.”

Judd had been knocked unconscious by Travis and drowned in the water. The jealousy prior to his death, the pain of betrayal, and the twisted desires imposed by Danielle all mixed up together.

He would have become an Evil Spirit, but by a stroke of luck, the formed Spiritual Body found its way into a mangled corpse.

The rotting, filthy body combined with the twisted soul turned into a kind of monster that existed between life and death at the bottom of the water.

The desires before death drove it to linger around Danielle. It didn’t possess many thoughts, fixated on just one thing – not allowing any man to approach her!

“What about the man from yesterday?”

The Water Ghost hid in the lake near Danielle’s house during the day, and any man who engaged in relations with Danielle here would be resented by it and then killed when approaching the water.

Danielle had disappeared for the entire day yesterday…

She was tempting these people to approach the source of water, to approach Crystal Lake, because only then could the Water Ghost easily launch its attack.

“Of course, he is dead.”

“I think his body will be found before long.”

“Who was he?”

“A passerby,” Danielle said indifferently.

But Roger felt a chill in his heart.

Every dead person was related to the incident at the White Apricot Tree Camp years ago, and that man must have been no different.

It brought to mind how, not long ago, a male classmate had casually mentioned the legend of the Evil Spirit of Crystal Lake at school.

Roger let out a sigh of helplessness.

Did these people deserve to die?

Of course.

Had Danielle killed anyone?

If what she said was true, then there was naturally no outcome.

She was merely exploiting a man’s jealousy and desire.

“Does he want to kill me?”

“But nothing has happened between us.”

Roger looked at Danielle.

“He fears the sunlight and cannot appear during the day, but at night, any man who stays here becomes his target.”

“So…”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Roger, you just happen to be here tonight.”

“Actually, I’m quite curious about you, a normal person would have been driven mad with fear by such a monster.”

Clack!

Roger gently tapped the box behind him, and it fell to the ground, revealing a Steel Sword.

With a light hum, the Longsword was drawn.

The next second, Roger had already charged forward with his sword raised.

The room was relatively cramped, and normally, a dagger would have been the better choice, but considering the Water Ghosts’ pitch-black nails that shined with a sinister glow,

And their swollen bodies that seemed like they could burst open at any moment, Roger didn’t want to get that close.

He made a diagonal cut with his sword, the creature’s external defensive power was far inferior to Ivy’s, but its blue skin was coated with a layer of slimy mucus.

The Steel Sword struck it and most of the force was deflected.

This thing might look like it could rot away at any moment, but under the influence of some eerie energy, it was no longer a human body.

The first strike did not harm the opponent, and Roger changed his strategy, his weapon thrust and pierced the Water Ghost’s chest.

Shh!

This time the Steel Sword went in without any resistance.

But just when Roger was about to move forward to expand his victory, the Water Ghost’s gaping mouth opened, and a spray of mucus shot out.

Sizzle!

Roger dodged the mucus, and glancing aside, saw tiny green bugs the size of his little finger swimming in the liquid that hit the wall.

Though the creature wasn’t particularly strong in battle, it was disgustingly revolting.

Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh!

Roger didn’t linger in battle, his strength completely overpowered the Water Ghost, and he quickly poked several large holes in its chest.

Through the wounds, the internal structure of the creature could be seen, completely different from that of a human.

Such strange energy, a combination of a distorted soul and a dead body could give birth to such a monster.

Perhaps there were principles at work here that Roger didn’t fully understand.

The carefree look on Danielle’s face vanished, and she finally realized something was wrong. No longer concerned with the fight between Roger and the Water Ghost, she began to pack her things, ready to make a run for it.

At that moment, Roger seized an opportunity, a sword thrust piercing the Water Ghost; then, with a sweep of his Steel Sword, he opened a large gash from its chest to its shoulder.

Various organs of indeterminate substance fell out, and as Roger drew back his sword, his hand reversed and smacked Danielle on the back of her head.

But just then, seemingly aware of the danger, the Water Ghost gave up on Danielle, leaped out the window, and plunged towards Crystal Lake nearby!

If Roger let this thing get into the water, it would be incredibly difficult to find it again; he pushed off hard with his feet, rushing forward in an explosive dash.

Leaping high, he thrust his Steel Sword fiercely downward!

Splash!

Two figures plunged into the water together, the cold lake water enveloping them; Roger instinctively gripped the Steel Sword in his hand tightly.

The Water Ghost was swimming rapidly, dragging Roger towards the depths of the lake.

He opened his eyes and could still barely make out his surroundings.

As the lake water glided by, the Water Ghost’s speed was astonishingly fast; Roger’s Steel Sword was lodged in its thigh, and was close to being ripped from its body.

In the darkness, Roger grabbed the Water Ghost’s other leg, drew his weapon, and began stabbing at the creature’s body.

As he continued forward, Roger didn’t know how many times he had stabbed, until the creature finally stopped moving.

Dragging the Water Ghost’s body, he surfaced, and looking around, he noticed a faint light coming from afar.
