Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 344: This One Thing
"Are you certain about this? You’ll just get bored at my workplace." Thane insisted, trying to make his wife see otherwise. "You don’t need to come with me, dearie."
"Come on," she nudged his side with her elbow. "I just realized that I’ve never been there with you, I’d like to meet the team again, and maybe go out like the last time." she suggested, leaning in closer.
Thane forced a smile, "Of course."
Any other day he would be glad, no, thrilled to have his wife by his side. But not now, not when she was supposed to be getting used to life, life without him.
"Don’t worry, I won’t distract you at work-" Thane’s phone ringing cut her off.
He tried to silence it, but it was his mother calling. He reluctantly answered and placed the phone on speaker.
"Thane, thank goodness I was able to get through!" she cried into the call.
Brooke knitted her bros. Why was Rosalind calling?
She got her answer when her mother-in-law announced, "We’re in the country, and we need to see you, now."
What the hell?
Out of all the things she had expected to hear, that probably would be the last thing. Her heart ached, why now? Why were these people coming to interfere in her alone time with Thane?
She looked to her husband, sure he felt the way. But, Thane shocked her when he sad, "Where?"
She frowned. Why was he indulging these people? They never cared for him, at least not like she did, they only called if they needed something from him.
And how right Brooke was.
They arrived at the rendezvous point, which was to both their stun, Damien’s place.
"What is going on here?" Rosalind asked the moment she laid eyes on Brooke, "Why did you come with your wife?"
Thane replied, "I could ask the same thing, why the hell are we meeting at Damien’s place?"
His father, explained, "This young man owes our family, it’s just a kind gesture, it doesn’t mean anything." he said, but Thane did not believe a word of that.
He shifted his gaze from his parent’s disapproving stares at Brooke, to the intense gaze Damien pointed at Brooke.
Underneath the table, he balled his fists, forcing the bad thoughts in his head away. "So? Why would the both of you make the trip here?"
Rosalind looked to Damien, signalling him that it was time for him to leave. He nodded, then called to Brooke, "Come with me, there’s something I want to ask you."
Thane inwardly rolled his eyes at the attempt. "My wife stays."
Malcolm frowned, "This is something sensitive."
"She stays, or I leave." Thane insisted.
Brooke seeing that the issue must be something very important got up. "I’ll just speak with Damien for a bit, it won’t take long." She gently told him.
Thane did not like that.
Why would she insist on spending the day with him only to leave at the first sight of Damien?
Of course he knew it was nothing like that, he trusted her far too much. And it was better that she was far from his family, but still.
She was his wife.
He wanted to see her.
A part of him loved having her around.
"Fine." He forced himself to say. As he watched her leave with someone else, he began to understand just how torturing it would be to watch her live her life without him in it.
Secretly he was glad he wouldn’t be there to witness that.
That would’ve really killed him.
"Thane, did you hear a single word I said?!" His father barked at him, stealing his attention.
Irritated, he replied, "What do I care that the old man is dying?" Why did these people love disrupting his peace of mind so much?
His mother folded her arms, "You’re smarter than that Thane!" A frown on her face, she explained, "He’s willed it to you! He’s named you the successor! He’ll be here by tonight, to have a talk with you-"
Thane cut her off, "I disowned the old bastard. He knows better than to make the mistake of seeing me."
He hadn’t gotten back at Zachiel for harming Brooke simply because he was on borrowed time. He didn’t know who would go first between the old man and himself.
It seems that fate was tipping towards his side of the scale.
Malcolm’s face was red, "I don’t care about your petty fights with father. What we care about is the will, Thane." He turned to his wife, signalling her for something.
Sharply, she reached for her purse and pulled out a black folder. She slid it across the table to him, then took out his seal and did the same.
"Father is adamant about willing everything to you. I know you want nothing to do with our family, so here, sign this." He said, without explaining just what he wanted his son to sign.
Thane didn’t bother picking it up. He looked at his parents, till Rosalind decided to explain the documents.
"It’s a transfer of ownership of all assets to your father. Once father-in-law grants you the inheritance, you’ll give it up to your father...." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Thane didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
His mother kept going about some of the clauses and conditions, but he was still stuck in awe. Rather, he was shocked he still felt stunned by his parents actions.
He held his palm up, stopping her. "And if I refuse?" He asked.
Malcolm sighed, "You’d be a fool. Just sign, and we won’t bother you anymore. You can live here with your wife, don’t care about your family, you never have." He leaned in, his eyes laced with anger and desperation, the former outweighing the latter.
"Just give us this one thing, you owe your mother and I this much." His father insisted, wedging a knife deep inside his son.
Rosalind mirrored her husband, "We raised you all these years, and without asking for anything in return. Thane, do this one thing, and we will be out of your hair for good." She said, twisting the knife her husband had stabbed him with.
