"This is insane! How could father do this?!" Edward raised his voice, pacing frantically about his mother’s bedroom.

"Please calm down, you’re going to raise your blood pressure." Laura tried to coo him, but her he turned his anger to her instead.

Shaking her shoulders, he barked at her, "How can you be so calm?! Not only did Desmond receive the smallest share of assets, but Matthew and Maverick got a larger share than William!" he huffed, his shoulders violently quaking.

Laura shrank back, this angry side of Edward was the side of him she was always clueless on how to handle.

Sophia scoffed, drawing their attention, "Malcolm and Rosalind must be having a field day! Not only did Matthew get the second best share of assets, but Thane was still crowned heir! Even after all our efforts, we’re worse than where we started off!"

Desmond cleared his throat, "Father, what does all this mean? Will Thane truly get back everything? What about me and William?"

Edward yelled, "You foolish bastard! If you were worth something, we wouldn’t be in this mess!" he raised his voice and hand, aiming for his cheek.

Desmond quickly ran to his mother’s side, and hid behind her.

Laura spread her arms in front of him, she traced her teary gaze to his harsh glare, "Please Edward, you can’t blame the children! Father-in-law had always had Thane in his heart, we were the ones who thought we could sway him over." she reminded them.

She elaborated further, "We were the ones who insisted on pushing William and Desmond forward, even when it was clear he wasn’t interested, this whole fight for the inheritance is just a clash between yours and Malcolm’s ego!"

Sophia laughed, "The reason we did not succeed, is because I allowed a silly woman like you become my son’s wife! If only you were smarter, my grand children would not have been cheated like this!" she pinched her temples, "Where even is William?" she looked around the room.

He was the only one that left the house immediately after the will was given. Rowan and Sloane would arrive much later to pick up Anna and Maverick, and also discuss the old man’s will. Matthew and Mallory were in a meeting just like this with Malcolm and his wife.

William from what they were told took off without saying a word to anybody.

Laura sighed, "All this must be very hard for him to process. He’s probably having it the hardest."

Edward hissed, "That boy has always been too soft! The one thing he takes after you for."

He rested his hands on his hips, "What bullshit! If father thinks I’m going to stand back and let Malcolm take everything, he’s sorely mistaken!" He said before dashing out.

Laura tried to go ahead him, but Sophia beat her to it. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"Just stay away from my son, you don’t have anything to offer to him. Not you or your useless sons." She spat out harshly, then went after him.

In Malcolm’s study, he took out his finest bottle of wine and poured his wife some. He offered to give some to Mallory and Matthew, but the pair seemed genuinely distressed.

"Cheers!" Rosalind raised her glass, her husband smiled and joined her for a toast.

"Finally! We’ll get everything that belongs to us rightfully restored!" Malcolm announced, wrapping an arm around his wife.

Rosalind got on her tip toe, and planted a kiss on his lips. "After all those nerve wracking years, it’s finally all on paper."

"And the best part is, Matthew here, who blew us all away with that project he got over William. That must’ve secured us those assets." He praised.

But Matthew was everything but pleaded. "Father, grandfather isn’t going to take no for an answer. Giving Thane the inheritance is a thing of pride."

Mallory seconded. "He’s going out of the country next week, what do we do when Thane rejects him?" She feared he would have the whole will rewritten and take Matthew’s name off it completely.

"Don’t stress over that." Rosalind said, "We know that Zachiel will stop at nothing until he gets Thane back into the family."

Malcolm dropped his glass on the nearest table, "That’s why we’ve decided to leave before him. Tonight or tomorrow, as soon as possible. We need to speak to Thane."

Matthew frowned. "And when were you planning on telling us this?! We could have come with."

Rosalind replied calmly, "You two need to stay back here and focus on the business. We’ll handle Thane, and get him to at least pretend he’s forgiven the old man."

Her husband seconded, "Thane will just have to place his pride aside, this isn’t just about him anymore, both your future is on the line here. If we’re not smart that bastard Edward will get one over us."

Once they left, Matthew got a call from his informant, the one Mallory tasked with keeping tabs on the bar William’s lover worked in.

However, the call came with a sudden report.

Mallory noticed his panic, "What’s wrong?" she snapped, her hands naturally fell to his arm, locking around it.

Matthew pulled the phone away from his ear, he shot Mallory a glance, "The club’s been burned down."

She gasped "What?" eyes widened, jaw hung.

He held her hand, and gave it a tight squeeze, "That’s not all." he said, bracing her for what was next.

He huffed, "The stripper burned down with it."

Mallory blinked twice, trying to register what she just heard. "How is this possible?" William had just helped her out of that life, just what sort of strange timing was this.

It felt too...

As though reading her thoughts he said, "This wasn’t some accident. A club that prestigious would have a better safety system, the place couldn’t have burned to the ground."

Mallory nodded, "Someone is trying to tie up loose ends here." She hissed, "And they just took out our only leverage against William too."
