Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 238: A Silent Thud
Chapter 238: A Silent Thud
After breakfast, Hannah was summoned by Thane to explain her side of the situation. On entry, the first thing she noticed was Brooke’s absence from the interrogation. She looked to Thane, he immediately picked up on her thoughts and wasted no time to answer.
"My wife won’t be here for the interrogation, you and I both know she has a soft spot for you. Which is why I won’t be sending you away, however, depending on what you say now, I may change my mind." He said, setting the tone for the interrogation.
Hannah nodded her hands in front of her, "Of course, master Grayson." Although she had wanted to speak with Brooke to let her know the truth, she understood it was too much to ask for.
Even now, it was already so kind of him not to have her sent away for her mistake.
Piercing into her mind, Thane asked, "Who were you working for?"
"Miss Tara-"
Thane shot her a harsh glare, "Tara?" He uttered the name as though it were a slur.
She immediately bowed her head and apologized, "Forgive me master Grayson, she had approached me after you sent her out of the mansion to work for her."
Thane narrowed his eyes, "What leverage could someone like her have on you?"
It took a brief half minute for Hannah to muster up the courage to answer. Her fists balled at her sides, she kept her head low as she told him, "Through her younger brother, a friend of Matthew, she found out about my involvement in a crime-"
"Hannah." Thane’s voice called out, his tone slow yet forceful he told her, "Stop beating around the bush and explain yourself."
She took one glance at Thane’s eyes, the usual calm and poise they held was replaced with a spine chilling glare.
Hannah instinctively knew, that in comparison to Gilbert she had gotten the short end of the stick. He had gone after Master Grayson, but she, she had gone after his wife, and there was no one else he loved more than Brooke.
She collapsed to her knees, and kissed the ground with her forehead, "I was the hacker that helped Matthew sell illegal stocks of your family’s company." She confessed, her heartbeat louder than her words.
Her confession was followed by a deafening silence. She was tempted to raise her head, but knew better than that. The stories she had heard about young master Grayson all seemed false whenever his wife was around.
But now, with his glare trained on her, Hannah could see why he was the infamous black sheep of his family.
After all, he had not once asked her to get off her knees, it was clear the kind smile he usually wore was a privilege reserved for his wife.
"So you were working for Matthew all this time? Is he working with Tara too?" his prickly voice pried
Hannah shook her head, "I don’t know, Tara doesn’t tell me anything. She only gave me those pills and asked for Mrs Grayson’s medical reports." Realizing the deeper hole she was digging, she immediately inserted, "But I never did what she asked me to! I switched the pills with vitamins, and falsified the hospital reports! I swear it!"
But all her convincing fell on deaf ears.
"Hannah." Thane called out.
Her heart skipped a beat, "Master Grayson-"
"What do you think is a befitting punishment for your actions?" he asked.
"Please, punish me anyhow you deem fit. I betrayed yours and Mrs Grayson’s trust." She pleaded.
Thane scoffed, "You say that, but your hands are shaking."
Hannah bit her lip, using the pain to try and distract her body from the primal fear it was engulfed in.
"Forgive me-"
Thane cut her off by throwing a phone at her!
Hannah flinched, he had missed, just by a close margin, the phone barely hitting the left side of her face.
"Call him."
"Master Grayson, who-"
"Call that worthless brother of mine and place the phone on speaker." He ordered, his tone devoid of any emotion other than anger.
Hannah’s jittery hands picked up the phone and began to dial Matthew’s number...
Brooke had told Thane that she was meeting with Dylan to run lines, and in turn he had asked the driver to drop her off at the filming location, where they would meet up.
However, she failed to mention that Dylan was not only at the hospital looking after his sister, but he has no idea whatsoever that they would be running lines together.
She immediately called for a taxi after the driver left and made her way to another meeting spot, a bar.
Pushing the door open, the sound of the bell caused the man dressed in a long brown coat to look over his shoulder.
Brooke heaved a sigh of relief and sauntered over to the counter. She signaled the bartender over and helped herself to a seat.
"I’m so glad you decided to show up." She said, kicking off the conversation.
Gilbert frowned, "Mrs Grayson, if your husband finds out we’re meeting, he’ll have my head."
But Brooke dismissed his warning, "He wouldn’t do that, but I agree that he would be angry. After all, you broke his trust and mine if I’m being honest." She looked over the counter, wondering where the bartender had gone.
Gilbert looked like he had something to say, but he dismissed the thought. He took a sip out of his glass of beer, "I only came here because it would be the last time you ever see me."
Brooke gasped, "What? Where are you headed?"
He set the nearly empty glass on the counter, "Far from here. Master Grayson already showed me mercy by letting me and my family live after what I did-" he was saying, but Brooke cut him off.
"I know I’m not a good judge of character, but Gilbert, I don’t genuinely believe that you wanted to kill him. There must be some reason," she reached for his hand, "You can tell me. I know he’s angry at you right now, and what you did was unforgivable, but I know we can still fix this mess somehow."
Gilbert didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "You think that the man who tried to murder your husband deserves a second chance?" he retracted his hand, and tucked it in his pocket. "That sort of kindness is the type that gets you killed. What if I came here just to get back at him by hurting you?"
Brooke frowned, "Someone who wanted to hurt me wouldn’t say that. I know there is a lot I don’t understand. So just, please, make me understand. I don’t want my husband to lose his ability to trust people. He won’t show it, but I know he’s hurt deeply by what you did." Inching closer, she pleaded in a soft voice, "Please, come with me and try to make things right."
Gilbert parted his lips, a hopeful gleam in his eyes, "I’m sor-" but a sudden headache cut him off. He placed his hand to the side of his head, all of his fatigue perhaps catching up to him.
The nauseating pain he was feeling drew him back to his senses. He shook his head, and sharpened his voice. "I only came here because I wanted to tell you something before disappearing out of your lives for good." frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
He went on, "The identity of the Grayson who hired me to take the young master’s life. I want to tell it to you before I leave this place for good."
Brooke’s chest tightened, "Who is it-"
Gilbert took a deep breath, psyching himself up, "The person trying to have master Grayson killed is-" midway through his sentence, he felt a tightening in his chest and a swelling in his throat.
*Cough*
*Cough*
Violent coughs erupted out of his mouth, followed by a deep red blood trickling out of the corners of his mouth.
"Gilbert! What’s happening?!" Brooke screamed, as she watched Gilbert’s body fall off the barstool with a silent thud...
