Chapter 165: An Abandoned Son Or A Bastard Daughter?

Julian stormed into the hospital room, where he was met with a sight he had envisioned for the past nine years. He charged towards his son, and held him in his arms, taking liberty to be careful not to bash his head against the headboard.

"Kayden, you’re awake." Julian said in realization.

The boy nodded, his hands kept at his sides, seemingly lifeless. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

Susan slapped her brother’s back, "Alright, don’t smother the boy, he’s only been awake for some hours." She said, slicing into the scene.

Hesitantly, Julian withdrew from the embrace but kept his hand on his shoulder. "How are you feeling? Is there anything you want me to get you? Are you hungry or..."

Kayden chimed, "Mom. I’ve been looking around but I can’t find her anywhere." He turned to his aunt, "Where’s my mom?"

Susan closed her eyes, a bitter sigh escaped her lips. Julian’s face turned pale, he fixed his gaze on Kayden’s expectant face, and found himself not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

He sniffled, "Son, Lisa was-"

"Julian, can you step outside with me for a moment?" Susan inserted, her hands folded over her stomach.

Julian narrowed his brows, "Susan-"

"Please, Julian. It’ll only be a second." She pleaded in a loud whisper.

Kayden alternated his gaze from them both, wondering what they needed to talk about away from him. "Aunt Susan?"

She smiled, "It’s just some talk about the business, I don’t want to bore you with it." She picked up his blanket and draped it over his shoulders, tucking him in. "So just rest up, and we’ll be back in just a sec kiddo." She said then led her brother outside.

"What’s this about Susan? I was just about to tell him about Lisa." He said, once they were out of hearing distance.

Susan frowned, "You cannot tell that boy that his mother died, it would break his heart."

Julian disagreed. "He needs to know now, it’ll only hurt him later-"

"What will hurt him is finding out she died protecting him. Do you think that you’re the person who should be breaking that news to him, the father who abandoned him to go fool around?!" she scolded, not caring for the stares from the hospital staff pointed at them.

Julian reached for her shoulder but she slapped his touch away.

"The only reason why Kayden isn’t at your throat is because Lisa always insisted he forgive you. She kept hammering at the excuse that you didn’t know of his existence, that boy is only willing to give you a shot for her sake." She explained, not mincing words.

"Susan-"

She cut him off, "Tell him his mother died, while taking him to see you, you lose him forever."

Julian scoffed, "Well what am I supposed to do Su? He’ll find out eventually."

Susan snapped, "We can fake her death, say she was abroad for treatment, and that we lost her just recently. We can always come up with some lie to make you seem like a saint, but for now, you need to step up your game and be with him. Make up for the suffering you caused."

Julian huffed, "I don’t think that’ll work. I’m leaving the country soon."

Susan laughed, "Work? You’re thinking about your business at a time like this?!"

"It’s not about the business-"

"Then it’s not important." She concluded then turned to leave. However, she halted in her steps when Julian said...

"I had a daughter, with Serena." He confessed, his tone low.

"What?" she slowly turned around, taking in the sight of her guilty looking brother.

He rephrased, "I’ve found my missing daughter, Susan, and I’m going to bring her back."

"Wait a sec Julian, I don’t think I follow. You had a kid, with the waitress?" she asked.

"I didn’t know until later when I crossed paths with her brother Scott. That’s when I found out that she hid the pregnancy from me. But by that time he didn’t know where she was hiding with our child." He tried to explain.

But Susan wasn’t buying the story. "So what? You’ll just believe that? No questions asked? H-How do we know this isn’t all a scam? He could be fooling you-"

"I was the only man in Serena’s life at the time, I’m positive that if there’s a daughter of that age, it’s mine. That’s why I’m going there myself, so that I can make certain that I’m not being fooled by anyone. I’ll find out the truth for myself, so that another child doesn’t miss out because I wasn’t none the wiser of the situation." He insisted.

Susan shook her head. "It’s been over two decades! This is madness, that kid doesn’t need you, not half as much as Kayden does right now."

"She hasn’t seen me, she doesn’t even know of my existence, she must be suffering-"

His sister rolled her eyes, "And Kayden isn’t? What do you do about the boy lying in that bed with nine years of his life wasted!" she broke into tears. "Or did you just never truly care about him? About Lisa?"

Julian hugged his sister tightly and gently patted the back of her head, "You know that’s not true. Actually, I was planning on taking him with me, to see his sister-"

Susan abruptly pulled away and looked him fiercely in the eye. "He’s not leaving."

"Susan, I appreciate you taking care of them when I left, but he’s my son. I don’t want to be apart from him-"

"Then stay! Stay like you were always meant to!"

"I...can’t."

She laughed, "You can’t or you won’t? Is that bastard child really that important that you’d leave your son for her?!"

Julian sighed, "Susan you’re blowing things out of proportion-"

She cut him off, "I’m going back to Kayden, and if you want any shot at winning your son back, you’ll dispel whatever thoughts you had on chasing after that bastard." She huffed, then marched towards the hospital ward.
