Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 162: Dead To Me
Chapter 162: Dead To Me
When Brooke arrived at the manor, she could feel the absence of Hannah’s presence. She tried calling her a few times, but she wasn’t answering. She wanted someone to talk to, to confide in about Thane, and how to win him back. She was just about to call Matthew, when her phone rang.
She reluctantly picked it up, only to hear Anna’s voice.
"This is my cousin’s wife, Brooke, right?" Anna asked over the phone.
"Who is this?"
"It’s Anna."
Brooke felt her stomach churn. Maybe she wasn’t completely rid of the Grayson family.
"Um, my husband isn’t at home right now-"
"Don’t worry. You’re the one I want to speak with, you see, I have something to tell you." She said, "It’s about Matthew, and how he hurt your husband. And me."
Hurt her husband? Matthew hurt Thane?
"I don’t understand, what are you talking about?" she furrowed her brows, trying to make sense out of what the young girl was saying.
"I know all this must be confusing, but I want to ask you to please let me know where Matthew has ran off to. He can’t escape all the wrongdoings he’s done. Especially to cousin Thane. I mean, breaking my arm was one thing-"
"He broke your arm?!" Brooke yelled, wheeling out of the elevator towards her bedroom.
Anna sniffled, "But I’ve already forgiven him. He was drunk, and wasn’t watching where he was driving. However, running away is never going to fix anything."
"I can’t speak about this over the phone, I need to see you in person."
Brooke shook her head, "I can’t come back, I have filming to do." She said, though she didn’t want to think of going back to that place ever.
In a low tone Anna responded, "But I can come to you, can’t I?"
Brooke halted by her door, and shifted the phone to her other ear, to make sure she heard her right. "Anna, don’t you have school, you can’t come here-"
She raised her voice, "Fucking please Brooke! Look I’m begging here! I can’t stay in this place any longer! Matthew was my ticket to leaving but he dipped on me. And if I don’t get away from him-"
Brooke frowned, "Get away from who?"
"From-" The line went dead.
Brooke tried to call her back but she didn’t answer. She dialed Thane’s number hoping to call him, but instead got a call from yet another random number.
"Maybe it’s Anna." She hastily answered, only to be disappointed when she heard her mother’s crass voice over the cellphone.
"Brooke! How could you sell out your family?! You were the one who posted those contracts online weren’t you?!" she spat out.
Brooke rolled her eyes, "I don’t have time for you right now-"
"My husband is on the run because of you! No one has seen or been able to contact him! Come back and fix things!" her mother demanded, earning a humorless laugh from Brooke.
"Serena, your husband caused this himself. Look at what he did to Sadie and to all those other employees at the agency." She hissed, "He’s just getting what he deserves."
"What he deserves? You fucking bitch! How could you-"
Brooke cut her off. "If I were you, Serena, I’d watch my back, some of your lies are going to catch up to you very soon."
"Haa? What the hell are you on about now?!" she raised her voice, trying to make sense of what she meant.
Brooke pictured Scott in her head, a sigh escaped her lips "Don’t worry that head of yours mother, you’ll see soon enough." She said then ended the call.
Serena stared at her phone with surprise, "Since when did that bitch start acting this way?" she bit her nails, "What do I do? I was the one who printed out those contracts." She panicked.
Her bedroom door was suddenly opened by Cassie, who looked ready to murder someone.
"What sort of father is your husband?! How could he just run off without a word?!" She raised her voice.
Serena pinched her temples, "Dear don’t worry, he’ll be back soon."
Cassie scoffed, "That bastard ran with his tail between his legs when his dirty laundry got aired. He didn’t stop to think about me." She ran her fingers through her hair, "I can’t even go out! People all over social media are dragging me!"
Serena didn’t know how to respond. First the scandal with the fake bag came to light and now the slavery contract which had gotten the police involved became their newest issue.
"I think we should contact Ethan, he’s the only one who can save us." Serena insisted.
Cassie hissed, "I don’t care if you need to ask the devil himself! Just get me out of this mess!" she said, then marched over to the door.
"Y-Yes my dear!" she cried out, her fingers frantically scrolling to Ethan’s number.
"And as for that bastard of a father, let him know that he’s as good as dead to me." She said then slammed the door!
Serena took deep breaths trying to calm her racing heart. She found Ethan’s contact and called the number but he didn’t respond. She tried two more times but it was beginning to feel like she had blocked him.
"Ethan, please pick-" her crying was cut off when a number called her.
She felt hesitant, "It could be another reporter." Recently, reports and radio stations had been calling her, trying to cajole her into making a statement. But Cassie had warned her not to say anything that could give the press leeway over the situation.
"Maybe it’s Luther!" her eyes lit up at the possibility. When the number called again she picked it up and carefully placed it to her ear.
Barely a second after she answered the person on the other side called out. "Serena thank fuck you answered!"
He huffed into the call.
She blinked twice, "Who is this-"
"It’s Scott! Your brother." In a lower tone he whispered into the phone, "We need to talk."
