Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 154: Years Of Pining
Chapter 154: Years Of Pining
The room fell silent, Brooke’s hand slowly slid off Thane’s wrist, she tucked it neatly between her legs and let out a quiet huff.
"I just need some time to process this." She looked him head to toe, "All of this."
"I understand." He said politely, "However Brooke, I want you to know that I never once intended to fool you in any way."
"I just-" her words were cut short by Thane’s phone ringing.
"Your phone." She grunted, Thane hissed as he took out the phone to turn it off. But Brooke insisted, "I’m not going anywhere, we have all night to talk this through."
He shrugged his shoulders then went off to a corner of the room to scold who it was that called him.
Unfortunately, it was Rosalind, and judging by the loud shouts in the background, something had definitely happened. Before Thane could even get a word in, his mother’s voice rang loudly in a panicked cry.
"Son, please come home! Your brother is in trouble!" She pleaded then disconnected the call.
"What’s the matter?" Brooke asked, wheeling herself over to him.
"Damn Matthew." He hissed.
"What? What is it?"
Thane leaned forward and planted a quick kiss on her forehead, "It’s the house calling, I’ll be back by morning-"
Brooke tugged on his wrist and sent him a harsh glare, "You can’t leave." She snapped, "I know it’s not my place to say anything, but considering your health, I don’t think it’s a good idea to leave."
Her husband blinked twice, he hadn’t expected Brooke to stop him from leaving.
"Is my wife saying she wants me to stay back?" He asked, combing his fingers through his hair.
She folded her arms, "Don’t I have the right to?"
Thane smiled, "As you wish Brooke, tonight, I won’t go anywhere."
Brooke heaved a relieved sigh. "Thank you-"
Thane got on one knee and held her hand in his, "You don’t have to thank me for staying with you, trust me, that’s all I want." His smile deepened, "It’s all I’ve ever wanted."
His words made her cheeks burn. "Such a sweet talker. You say that, but you’re always disappearing and leaving me in the dark. I don’t want to feel that way, at least when I’m with you I don’t want to feel like I’m causing you trouble."
"But you’re not-"
Brooke cupped both his cheeks and brought his gaze to meet hers, "Then absolutely no more secrets, between us. Always answer my texts when I send them, and always let me know when you feel the slightest bit unwell. I want to be the first person you feel you can tell anything to..." she softened her tone, "If that’s all right with you."
Thane blinked twice then nodded, "Noted."
She released his face, "Thank you." She blushed, feeling embarrassed for a second.
"Anything you want to know now?" He asked, wheeling her over to the bed. "We have the entire night to ourselves."
Brooke furrowed her brows, there were so many things she wanted to ask him but she didn’t even know where to begin.
"Is it okay if I ask you something instead?" Thane asked, piercing through her thoughts.
She tilted her head, "To ask me? Is there something in particular you want to know?"
He lifted her up from the wheelchair and gently placed her on the bed. Brooke pulled the sheets up, and watched with cautious eyes as Thane circled to the other side and slid under the covers.
He turned to his side, looking at her. "Did you ever think about me? All those years we were apart?"
Brooke slightly shifted, so she was looking at him too. "I can’t begin to tell you how many nights I spent, laying on my bed, staring at the ceiling, using thoughts of you to escape my harsh reality." Brooke confessed. "You were the first person to ever take my side in anything, I was always myself when I was around you. You were my first friend."
Thane reached for her hand, "There was never a time that I didn’t want to fly back and see you. I even tried escaping a few times, but my body..."
Picking up on what he was saying, she lifted his palm to her lips and kissed it tenderly. "I guess we were both each other’s escape."
"Brooke, I swear that I will make Ethan Halton regret every waking second he spends alive. For everything he did to you, I will deliver back to him ten times." Thane promised, his eyes more fiery than ever.
Her heart pounded in her chest, Thane’s grip on her hand tightened, and it made her feel seen, and cherished.
Like he were her very own person.
Brooke stared deeply into his eyes before asking, "Will you ever leave me?"
"Brooke, I would never-"
"Please, think about your answer. I don’t want to get my heart broken, not again. There’s so much uncharted waters surrounding our relationship, that I don’t want to give and lose." Ever since her failed marriage with Ethan, there was nothing Brooke feared more than losing in love again.
Thane inched closer, he rested a hand on her cheek, "I have waited far too many years, pining over you to ever dream of leaving you. Brooke, I love you so desperately it drives me to do things I would never do. Being around you makes me feel like a better man, a better person." His fingers gently stroked her skin, making Brooke’s body shudder under his touch.
"Promise me," she breathed under her breath, her heart beating so loudly she feared that Thane would hear it. She rested her hand on his on her cheek, and inched closer, bridging the gap between them.
"Don’t leave me too. I don’t think I would survive it if someone I care about this much would one day abandon me like everyone else." Her eyes watered and her hand trembled over his.
In a quieter voice she pleaded, "Please, Thane."
