Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Discussing the Marriage of the Two Children

Natalie asked calmly, "Dad, did you know about Jason’s situation, that he might not wake up?"

Seeing her father’s awkward expression, Natalie added blandly, "I was just asking casually; I assumed you didn’t know."

Matthew Beckett’s face darkened.

He took it as his daughter’s sarcasm.

"Nat, your grandfather’s will states that for you to inherit everything from the Beckett Group and the Beckett family, you must be married."

"Who do you think your father is doing this for? Isn’t it all for you?"

"Jason is in a vegetative state. Of course, your father knows this. It’s precisely because of this that your father wants you to marry him."

"Otherwise, anyone else you find might covet the Beckett Group and the family. Should your father just watch everything fall into someone else’s hands?"

"Only Jason. Marrying him gives you inheritance rights without worrying about any threats."

It truly seemed perfect, wholeheartedly considering her well-being.

Natalie looked at her father.

But her grandfather’s will had another clause, which she couldn’t waive her inheritance rights.

If she insisted on giving them up, the rights wouldn’t pass to her father or brother but to her spouse instead.

With that clause, it seemed her father was destined to be estranged from the Beckett Group and the family.

But what if her spouse was in a vegetative state?

After waiving her inheritance rights, they would go to Jason Grant, but as he’s in a vegetative state, if someone waived them on his behalf, her father could naturally reclaim the inheritance rights.

That should be the crux of her father’s deal with Old Mr. Grant.

Old Mr. Grant, as Jason’s guardian, could make decisions for him.

So, as her father said, there really was no threat from Jason in a vegetative state.

——

Two days later in the dead of night, Sebastian Beckett, clinging to his last breath, finally couldn’t hold on any longer.

The doctor covered him with a white sheet.

Matthew Beckett held the body and cried heart-wrenchingly, evoking sympathy.

Julian Beckett’s tall frame couldn’t stop trembling, subdued sobs emanated.

Cynthia Kendall silently wept, and when she turned her face, her eyes inadvertently met Natalie’s, then quickly looked away.

Natalie raised her hand to touch under her eyes, dry.

She didn’t cry.

Her heart just felt very uncomfortable.

She opened her mouth, but her throat was too dry to make a sound.

The word "grandpa" was only mouthed, with no voice.

Days at Mount Corvix suddenly resurfaced in her mind.

Sebastian Beckett wasn’t talkative, only having her sign those invaluable things, ensuring she would be worry-free for the rest of her life.

*

The funeral hall was set up at Silverwood Hall, most people from Janton’s upper circles came to pay their respects, and those who couldn’t made sure to send wreaths as a sign of condolences.

Natalie hadn’t closed her eyes for a day and a night.

She hadn’t eaten, nor had she drunk much water.

Taking advantage of fewer people at this moment, Isaac Vaughn called her to a quiet spot on the side and handed her a cup of hot cocoa.

"If you can’t eat, drink some of this to regain some energy."

Natalie held it with both hands, sipping slowly.

Isaac tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and said, "There’s someone who wants to meet you."

Natalie followed Isaac towards the parking lot and saw an elderly, skinny and spry person getting out of the car from afar.

"Grandma."

Hearing Isaac’s address, Natalie looked surprised.

Despite her previous connection with the Grant family, she had never heard Jason or Old Mr. Grant mention anything about their mother or wife, so she assumed the person must have passed away.

Veronica Vincent sized up Natalie and said, "I was very close to your grandmother. Your grandmother had a tough destiny and passed early. Your grandfather was deeply affectionate with her, and now he’s gone to her, he must be happy. No need to be too sad."

Natalie said nothing, her eyes downcast.

Veronica asked Isaac, "Is that old man not here? I can’t be bothered to meet him."

"Grandfather isn’t here right now, that’s why I brought you here now."

"Alright, then, let’s go."

Though not tall, Veronica moved very quickly, leading the way.

Isaac and Natalie followed behind.

He whispered to her, "My grandmother was my grandfather’s first wife; they were a teenage couple but have been divorced for fifty years now."

"When my grandmother was young, she got injured saving my grandfather and became infertile. My grandfather subsequently had an affair and had my mom."

"At the time, my grandfather and grandmother weren’t yet divorced; when she found out, she divorced him and moved back to the countryside."

Natalie looked at Isaac in shock.

Seeing her stunned expression, Isaac chuckled and tapped her nose, "Grant family secrets, isn’t it thrilling?"

Natalie found herself at a loss for words.

After paying respects, Veronica Vincent, upon leaving Silverwood Hall, unexpectedly ran into her former husband of many years.

"Vero, Veronica?"

Old Mr. Grant looked incredulously at the person before him, "Is it, is it really you, Veronica?"

With a cold expression, Veronica strode forward.

Old Mr. Grant wheeled after her, "Veronica, wait! Please wait!"

"Auntie Veronica."

Vanessa Grant caught up for her father, stopping Veronica.

——

After the funeral, Matthew Beckett invited the Grant and Vaughn families for a meal, with Vanessa also inviting Veronica Vincent.

Normally, with Veronica’s temperament, she wouldn’t agree to come at all, but somehow, she did.

They booked an extra-large private room at Valerius Restaurant.

Most people were present.

Matthew Beckett started with some polite remarks about the Grant and Vaughn family’s support over the recent days before getting straight to the point.

"I won’t beat around the bush. The most important purpose of today’s meal is to discuss the children’s marriage."

Hearing this, Vanessa looked surprised and was about to speak when Ansel Vaughn beside her pressed her hand. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Vanessa turned to look at her husband, her brows tightly furrowed.

The matter between her son and Natalie was causing quite a stir in Janton; separating was the right thing to do, so why bring up marriage now?
