Chapter 104: Chapter 104: She Remembered Something

Julian Beckett, dressed neatly, placed the card on the bedside table.

"I have things to do, I’m leaving first."

Nina Abbott looked at the card, feeling as if it stung her eyes.

She bit her lip tightly and frowned, "I don’t want it."

"Don’t be unreasonable." Julian tossed out four words, fiddling with his watch. "If you’re not feeling well, just sleep a bit longer."

He finished speaking and strode out.

"I said I don’t want it!"

Nina exploded.

She grabbed the card and threw it at his back.

The card fell to the ground, light and silent.

Julian turned around and looked down at the card by his foot, his brows knotting together.

He stared at Nina with the expression one would give a disobedient pet.

Nina knelt up, clutching the quilt, "Aren’t we dating? Aren’t I your girlfriend?"

"It’s because you’re my girlfriend that you get a supplementary card. What’s the problem?"

Nina opened her mouth; her heart felt as bitter as swallowing wormwood.

Right.

What’s the problem?

But it still felt odd to her.

Yet she didn’t want to get dumped on the first day of dating.

So she forced down the strange feeling and after a moment, said, "Thank you."

She wrapped herself in the quilt, jumped off the bed, bent down, and picked up the card.

"I’ll make sure to spend it well."

Julian sighed, stepped forward, and brushed a finger under her eye. His fingertip was faintly damp.

"Mm. Buy whatever you want, don’t bother saving money for me."

Nina gave a self-mocking smile and looked away. "Mr. Beckett is so generous."

A hint of impatience gathered in Julian’s eyes.

He really did have things he needed to get home for, and he didn’t have the time to cater to the fragile sensitivities of an overly sensitive girl.

"I’m leaving." His tone turned a little colder as he spoke and walked out.

Only after he left did Nina finally let her tears fall.

——

The Beckett family residence.

"Young Master, you’re back!" A maid hurried forward, her expression anxious. "Young Master, should we call the police?"

"No need."

Julian replied coldly and went upstairs.

He found Cynthia Kendall in the prayer room.

He waited quietly for her to finish chanting before stepping forward to help her.

"Mom, where is it?"

Cynthia Kendall turned to look at him.

Their eyes met.

Cynthia drew back her arm, voice cold, "Where is what? I don’t know what you’re talking about."

Julian’s face changed slightly.

"Mom, why did you suddenly want to take that thing? Did someone tell you something?"

Cynthia didn’t answer, just walked out.

"Mom!"

Julian chased after her.

He happened to bump into Matthew Beckett.

Matthew looked at the mother and son curiously and asked, "What’s going on?"

Julian could only say it was nothing.

If his dad knew about the agreement, he’d probably take it straight to Nat.

——

Beckett Group.

Downstairs in the fast-food restaurant.

"Sorry I could only meet you here. I have a meeting this afternoon, not much time."

"It’s fine." Nina Abbott stirred her iced lemon tea. "Honestly, I don’t have much appetite anyway."

Natalie hesitated, then asked, "Last night, you and my brother...?"

"We slept together."

Natalie’s eyes widened in shock.

Isaac Vaughn had really called it right.

Her brother did have feelings for Nina.

But their progress seemed way too fast.

Suddenly, Natalie remembered something.

"Weren’t you drunk last night? Did my brother take advantage of you...?"

"No, I did it willingly," Nina hurriedly explained, "I wasn’t really drunk last night; I was just pretending."

Natalie was at a loss for words.

Not far away.

"Tristan? What are you looking at?"

Tristan Jordan snapped back and said mildly to his colleague, "Nothing."

"Hey, isn’t that Miss Kendall?"

The colleague spotted Natalie and asked Tristan, "Should we go say hi?"

Tristan said, "You can go if you want."

With that, he walked away.

Natalie said goodbye to Nina, and when she returned to Beckett Group, she bumped into Tristan Jordan in the elevator.

"Miss Kendall."

Tristan greeted her politely, his tone and expression perfectly normal.

Natalie nodded and stepped inside, standing in front of him.

The elevator numbers ticked upward.

Tristan tried to hold back, but failed. His gaze landed on her.

She wore a small, delicate hearing aid in her pale ear, her hair pinned up, making no attempt to hide it.

Many people with disabilities carry a sense of inferiority and try their best to conceal their flaws.

But she always seemed so candid.

She had no idea she possessed such a strange, attractive charm.

"Ding"—the elevator reached Tristan’s floor.

He was no longer her assistant, and they wouldn’t be going to the same floor anymore.

"Goodbye, Miss Kendall."

Natalie nodded again.

Tristan walked out, and once again couldn’t help glancing back.

Inside the elevator, Natalie’s eyes held nothing but indifference, not a trace of reluctance toward him.

——

At the end of the workday, Natalie saw a few girls hugging bouquets at the company entrance, which was when she finally remembered what day it was.

To say she had no expectations for this day would be impossible.

But all day, Isaac hadn’t contacted her at all.

Of course, he’d just been promoted to vice president—and parachuted in—so he needed results to prove himself. He’d be busy for a while.

She understood, but couldn’t help feeling a bit disappointed.

When she got home,

Natalie stopped short as soon as she opened the door.

Both sides of the entryway were lined with heart-shaped candles, forming a path leading inside.

She followed the candle-lit path forward, only to be stunned by the massive bouquet of roses in the living room.

Judging by the size, it must have been 999 roses.

"Hey."

Suddenly, someone approached from behind and pulled her into his arms, kissing her ear. "Do you like it?"

"When did you set all this up?"

Natalie turned her head and touched his face.

Isaac kissed her palm, "This afternoon. It was a bit rushed—hope it’s okay?"

"It’s already wonderful," she said, "but I didn’t get anything for you."

Isaac was wearing a bathrobe—he must have showered already.

He took her hand and led her into the bedroom.

Natalie was stunned again by a bed covered in rose petals.

There were also loads of balloons stuck to the ceiling; two of them seemed to have something glittering dangling from their strings.

On closer look, Natalie saw they were two rings hanging there.

Seeing her discover them, Isaac untied the strings and took down the rings.

"I promised I’d give these to you."

As he spoke, her hand was cradled in his palm. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

He slid the ring onto her finger and kissed the hand wearing it.

Natalie’s nose tingled with emotion; she quickly helped him put on his ring, too.

She placed their hands together, both wearing rings, and watched as stars seemed to spark in her eyes.

"Isaac, I feel almost too happy. What should I do?"

Isaac hugged her and kissed her pale ear.

What came next flowed naturally, unstoppable.

Natalie was more responsive than usual—their passion even bordered on reckless.

*

The night was cool as water.

Natalie’s eyes suddenly opened.

She looked at the man sleeping beside her, and fragments of conversation echoed strangely in her ears:

"Isaac, what exactly do you want?"

"She owns ten percent of Beckett Group’s shares."

"Just for that?"

"Of course not... Her worth is far beyond that."

"She’s very obedient. No one loves her. She’s so starved for love that just a little affection makes her do anything."
