Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Wife

"Is he asleep now?"

Isaac Vaughn hung up the phone, tossed it onto the bedside table, and pressed down on her.

"I still need to go to the hospital, can you hurry up?"

Natalie Kendall pushed away the man who was kissing her neck, her voice cold: "Just get on with it."

Isaac Vaughn propped himself up halfway, sarcasm spreading across his eyes.

Fine.

Since she said so.

He found his thought of wanting to reassure her a bit more to be purely pointless.

But seeing her eyes red with fear, yet still acting as if nothing was happening, even looking as if resigned to fate, almost made Isaac Vaughn turn over and leave.

Suddenly, her unintentional move grabbed his arm.

Her slender white hand fit perfectly around his honey-colored forearm, and as her fingers dug into his muscles, it seemed as if he was her only support.

The scene stirred something inside him inexplicably.

His Adam’s apple moved as he leaned down to kiss her, but she dodged.

Natalie Kendall turned her head, her hands tightly clutching the sheets beneath her.

Even though they had done things far more intimate, she spoke rigidly, "I don’t think we need to kiss."

Isaac Vaughn laughed mockingly.

Fine, don’t want a kiss, huh?

He could find ways to make up for it elsewhere.

Later, Natalie’s hearing aid fell off her ear.

Without the hearing aid, Natalie couldn’t hear a thing.

Not being able to hear, she felt unsafe.

And in her panic, as she struggled to reach for the hearing aid, Isaac Vaughn expressed his disdain.

He grabbed her wrist.

Just a little force.

She couldn’t escape.

Natalie was helpless and scared, feeling like she was falling apart.

Angrily, she raised her hands, her eyes reddened like a rabbit, and hit him.

Her weak hands grazed his face.

Not painful at all, more like a tickle.

Isaac Vaughn clicked his tongue, seeing her still reaching out.

He glanced at the hearing aid about to fall off the edge of the bed.

With a long arm, he snatched the hearing aid and placed it in her sweaty palm.

Natalie immediately clenched her hand around it like a lifeline.

She tried to put it back on herself, but couldn’t manage, tears of urgency threatened to fall.

Isaac Vaughn thought she was really pitiful.

A truly pitiful little deaf girl.

So he kindly allowed her to shakily put the hearing aid back on.

*

Left her barely with a breath.

Afterwards, Isaac Vaughn went to take a shower.

The sound of running water came from the bathroom.

Natalie lay on the bed, physiological tears streaming down the corners of her eyes. After a while, she gritted her teeth and got up to dress.

When she pulled on a sweatshirt, Isaac Vaughn came out, towel drying his hair.

The man had only a white towel wrapped around his hips, his honey-colored skin well-shaped and firm.

Eight pack abs, every muscle defined, this physique owed to those daily trips to the gym.

As for that face—

There was a crude saying circulating:

Any woman who gets an extra look from Second Young Master Vaughn could become pregnant, and two looks could make a man pregnant too.

Natalie lowered her eyes faintly, shouldered her backpack.

She still had to go to the hospital.

She walked towards the door, legs trembling as she did.

Isaac Vaughn said something behind her, but she didn’t hear it.

...

Arriving at the hospital, Granny Peterson was still in the ward.

Technically, she should have been in the operating room preparing for surgery.

Natalie went to ask the nurse, "Where is Dr. Vaughn?"

"Dr. Vaughn is performing surgery now. It started three hours ago, should finish around one."

Three hours ago?

Wasn’t that when she was in Isaac Vaughn’s bed?

So, the call Isaac Vaughn made wasn’t for Dr. Vaughn to perform surgery on Granny Peterson?

Isaac Vaughn lied to her!

"Room 703! Patient in bed three has a cardiac arrest! Hurry! Quickly!"

703? Bed three?

It’s Granny Peterson!

Natalie hurried back.

Outside the ward.

She couldn’t see Granny Peterson, could only see the white-clad figures bustling around the bed.

Fortunately, the rescue was timely, Granny Peterson temporarily gained back a life, but without immediate surgery, she really wouldn’t hold on much longer.

Two in the morning.

Natalie blocked Timothy Vaughn, who had just finished surgery, at the office door.

Timothy Vaughn had a young nurse with him, and as he walked, he was instructing her on the postoperative care for the patients.

When he glanced up and saw the stunning beauty standing at his office door, his eyes lit up.

But after hearing Natalie’s purpose, any secret intent he had faded completely, and he spoke formally, "I sympathize with your situation."

"Dr. Vaughn’s surgeries are scheduled out until six months from now," the young nurse pouted, "You can’t just cut in line."

Natalie clenched her fingers, nails digging into her palm, "But..."

Granny Peterson’s surgery was extremely difficult, and there were barely two doctors in the country who could perform such operations, and the one with the highest success rate was Timothy Vaughn.

"Our hospital has many excellent doctors," Timothy Vaughn pushed open the office door, "You can completely trust them."

...

Natalie went to Oakhaven.

She couldn’t get in, so she could only wait at the gate.

Late at night, a blue Bugatti Veyron drove up.

Isaac Vaughn recognized Natalie, got out of the car, and walked towards her.

"What are you doing here?"

Could this woman be trying to latch onto him after just once?

Isaac Vaughn frowned, a bit annoyed.

He despised being stuck with someone.

Natalie looked at the man in front of her, didn’t say anything, just reached into her pocket.

Fortunately, Isaac Vaughn reacted quickly, but she still managed to scratch his arm with the fruit knife she pulled out.

"You lied to me! You never called Timothy Vaughn!"

Natalie pointed the tip of the knife at Isaac Vaughn, like a small enraged beast.

Isaac Vaughn froze for a moment, then gritted his teeth, "Are you crazy!"

The guard heard the commotion and rushed out of the guard room, stunned to see the person injured was Isaac Vaughn.

Dear me!

If anything happened to this guy, he’d be in deep trouble!

"Back off! Back off! You back off!" he shouted at Natalie, who was still gripping the fruit knife.

Isaac Vaughn recalled a short video segment that was popular for a while, completely awkward.

He forcefully pushed the guard, "Is there a first aid kit? Bring it!"

"Oh! Oh! Yes!"

The guard ran to get the supplies.

Isaac Vaughn pulled out his phone with one hand, dialed a number.

Natalie felt like she couldn’t breathe.

Her face was pale, her head blank, only "buzzing" sound around her ears.

Was the hearing aid broken?

Ten minutes later, the police car arrived.

Isaac Vaughn spoke briefly with the officer, who then took Natalie away.

...

Police station.

The interrogation room lights were very bright, hurting the eyes.

The male officer tapped the table, scolding harshly, "Assault with a weapon! What were you thinking, girl? Even with personal grudges, you can’t do this!"

Natalie lowered her head, looking at her hands.

She didn’t know when her fingers got stained with blood, rubbing them hard couldn’t clean it off.

Suddenly, a female officer pushed through the door. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

She glanced at Natalie, said something in the male officer’s ear, and he immediately frowned, "Messing with people?"

Natalie followed the female officer, not knowing where she was going.

Police station lobby.

Isaac Vaughn was bickering with someone, turned and saw Natalie, eyebrows lifting, spoke:

"Wife."
